We definitely will not get away without playing a first choice ruckman this game.
I get a feeling this game will either be a blow out or very close
I feel our long injury list is catching up with us, so I can't see us having a huge win.

Naughty out - Wood in
Young out - Trengove /Rough in

Webb nine touches is not enough. But at least they were good touches...Bev seems to drop him after one game so tipping Jong in for Webb...sadly.
Steve Grace wasn’t happy with Jong, so might spend another week in the VFL.

Not saying you are wrong but boiled down I'm just a dumb fan who likes to barrack for our players.

The difference for me is that I barrack for Webb to get the ball as good things happen in the rare event he does.

Sadly, I find myself hoping Honey and Jong don't get the ball for fear of what might happen. I hate watching footy with that mindset - I know its wrong but it is what it is and I guess that's why I prefer they don't play.
Great insight mate, both in terms of self-awareness and for others.

We're all dumb fans wanting to barrack for our players, except for perhaps dogwatch, who seems like quite a smart fan; perhaps he's one of those fancy dyson ones.

For me, I want to see excitement on the footy field. I like barracking for Jong because of the occasional exciting things he does, although I don't really want to see the ball in his hands in transition either.

Webb, on the other hand, is just a bit bland for me. He just doesn't look like getting involved in the game. He has a weapon, which could make him exciting, but he just doesn't use it. Obviously, if he could start to get involved, his kick could make him a really good player.

Both, in a sense, are quite frustrating, in that they have been the two best players in the VFL for several years, but haven't quite gotten there at AFL level. I like to think that Jong has gotten much closer than Webb at AFL level and has played some good games. He's also had a lot of major setbacks, and I like to give him some leeway coming back from an ACL. That said though, he's also been given much longer than Webb, both in years and opportunities at AFL level.

Is it just me or did Bevo in Bevo's brief he sends out where he mentioned the upcoming game against Adelaide seem like he wasn't looking forward to this week?

Hopefully he has some plans. Probably starts by winning the midfield and not wasting forward 50 entries

Haven't watched the Brief yet but in the press conference he said about the Adelaide game "we like to think we're a chance in every game" like he was even trying to convince himself.

It didn't really exude confidence. Seemed unusual for the usually positive Bevo.

In the brief he mentioned the Freo game and said he won't tell us the same thing he told us before thar game because of the result. was a bit odd

No win situation for him though. I think he’s obliged to be positive because he sets the tone for the players and club - would be a disaster to admit he thinks we’ll struggle - but in reality do you give the Dogs any chance this week? No game is ever impossible but it would be a monumental upset. I’m really hoping to see some moves that throw off the Crows (I don’t have any to put out there) but would like to see something that says we’d tried something specifically for this game and not just a game where we chalk up another games experience for a young group.

Adelaide have a few sore guys .. Walker and Jacobs

likely they both play but still sore.

with all their "hamstring awareness " issues it's probably a good time to get them even over there... of course we are up against it being so young etc but port isn't much chop and they would have won comfortably with more accurate kicking.

Collingwood also isn't that good and they smashed them over there.

Still yes we are up against it but can't take that attitude in

He always answers the question with that answer. He's said it just about every week.

We are getting carried by a few players namely "rack them up Jack" Macrae without him we may have been winless. We chose to go small last night but have plenty of quantity in the the tall department not much quality.

Outs Omitted Webb, Young, Crozier, Injured Naughton
In Jong (not great but surely better than Webb to coin a Jack Dyer phrase he gets where the footy ain't), Trengove, Wood and Biggs

Just tempering expectations.

But if we go over there and win it'll be epic.

Epic.

On the changes, I'd like to see Webb given a bit more time to settle in. I was surprised to learn he only had 9 disposals as watching live I did think he was involved in the play a decent amount. I'd also give Crozier a bit more time as well. He had a good last quarter on the weekend once he settled.

Roberts looks to be a good in against their tall forward line, especially with Naughton likely out.

Young just looks devoid of any confidence at all. Think he needs a good stint in the 2s but might stay in due to lack of tall backs available. I would play Trengove as a backman/ruck just following Jenkins around but Bev doesn't see him as that player. Played as a key forward in the VFL on the weekend from what I can gather.

Out: Naughton (inj), Young
In: Roberts, Trengove

I think Bev may keep Young in though and drop a small instead (probably Webb) and have Trengove play forward/ruck.

Round 九 on Friday nights typically haven't been good ones for the Bulldogs.

2017
After looking like the Bulldogs might finally beat Geelong (for the first time since 2009), Travis Cloke gave away a free kick and a 50m penalty in the last quarter when the Bulldogs not only had the lead, but importantly the momentum. The result of that was a goal to the Cats, and they never looked back, kicking seven goals to two in the final quarter to win by 23 points.

2012
The Bulldogs again lost to Geelong. When Zephaniah Rat Tail kicked a goal half way through the final quarter, the Cats' lead was reduced to just three points. Steven Motlop took over and the Cats won by 20 points.

2009
In Akermanis' 300th game, the Bulldogs lost to Geelong in a thriller. When Matthew Stokes kicked a goal at the 16th minute mark of the third quarter, the Cats led by a game high 36 points. With 23 minutes expired in the final quarter, the Cats led by 15 points but the Dogs were coming. And come they did. Goals by Akermanis and Johnson reduced the margin to three points, before Varcoe kicked a goal to give his team a nine point lead with three minutes remaining. A goal to Liam Picken at the 30th minute mark set the scene for what was to be a memorable finish. With less than 50 seconds remaining and the Bulldogs trailing by three points, they won the ball out of the centre. Akermanis looked set to take a mark inside 50, before he was interfered with. Just before he was about to be paid a free kick, the umpire had a brain fart and called play on. Fast forward 30 seconds, with the ball still inside the Bulldogs' forward 50, Mitch Hahn kicks towards goal. The ball fell short and sailed wide into the arms of Brad Johnson, who marked with eight seconds remaining. He would kick for goal after the siren to win the match. For the second consecutive year in round nine, Brad Johnson kicked for goal after the siren to win his team the match. For the second consecutive year, he missed that opportunity.

2006
Collingwood won by 34 points, in a match where Bob Murphy ruptured his ACL after being tackled by Anthony Rocca. Giansiracusa also tore his hamstring. After the match, a Magpies supporter told me that the Bulldogs haven't played finals in years, and it will remain that way. In less than four months, that comment would come back to bite him on the ass.

2000
The last time the Bulldogs won on a Friday night in round nine. It was a one-point win against the team who would go on to win the Wooden Spoon, by coming from 31 points down at 3/4 time. The come from behind victory resulted in the opposition's Full Back being reduced to tears.

I can't see the record improving this Friday night. The Bulldogs and Crows are 1-1 in round nine matches, with the Bulldogs winning at the Whitten Oval in 1996 and the Crows winning at Football Park in 2003.

FF = Gowers - Boyd - Dahl
HF = Mclean - Bont - Daniel
R = Wallis - Macrae - Webb
Ruck = Roughie
W JJ - Hunter
HB = Crozier - Williams - Biggs
B = Cordy - Roberts - Suckling
Int = Richards - Lapinski - Trengove - Dunkley

Out = Honeychurch - Naughton (injured) - Dale (will likely pull up sore) - Young
In = Roberts - Roughead - Trengove - Biggs

Schache with another three becomes a chance to come in, but you would think another week in the two's is warranted. Naughton out is a big blow and I only hope it doesn't lead us to rushing Wood back in. Hopefully more like the Sydney game than the WCE game, but could be a tough night for the kids. Doesn't sound like a heap of players put their hands up in the twos.

I am going on Friday. Anyone else going? What is the best pub before the game.
Yes. The cathedral hotel is the closest pub. Still in north Adelaide but further east, there's the British. There's also the Lion (10 screens with Foxtel). I'm most familiar with those two. To the north you will find the curious squire. There are more pubs to the west of the Oval which I don't go to.

JAcobs could miss for the birth of his child leaving a third gamer to do the rucking. Did English do enough for a recall or was Roughie worth bringing up? If not, we could see Boyd take the ruck duties with Dunkley again.

"ADELAIDE is prepared for the prospect of ruckman Sam Jacobs missing Friday night's clash with the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval for the birth of his first child.
Jacobs' wife Izzy is due this week, with back-up big man Reilly O'Brien on standby for his third AFL game, and first since 2016.

"If Izzy goes into labour, he'll be there, and it's a pretty common thing these days to put family ahead of one game of footy," Crows defender Daniel Talia told reporters on Monday.

"It will be their first child and a pretty special moment for (Jacobs), so if it happens to fall on Friday night, we've got a back-up in Reilly O'Brien, who is a really good ruckman."

Its been a long time but my memory of that incident was that Matthew Boyd had the ball and put a 20 metre pass into Bob who was in the clear. The pass missed its target and instead of having a mark and so not being able to be tackled, Bob had to wait for the ball giving Rocca time to make up ground and effect the tackle that did the damage. That was a very costly skill error. :(
