Changes v Adelaide

I'm reading these sorts of changes like they're going to cut 6 or so players at the end of the season and they're giving everyone a chance to prove themselves. I reckon it's hard on players to push them up and down like yo-yos. It's hard to get consistency in your game when there's no consistency in the team around you.

Unless you're Nathan Foley. Go Axel.

I also read this as TW saying "we're not going to win this one, might as well experiment". Can't say I'm completely against this.

I do like Jackson though. Probably because I saw his debut where he really showed something, but I want to see him do well.

If Jake King is in our best 22 we are as bad as Fitzroy '96!!

I thought Gaspar was "retired" because McGaune had proven himself worthy of a game and now he is dropped.

They also drop Hughes after one bad game!!

Richmond have no idea

About time we give Jake King a chance and stop bagging him...

Not the most fashionable player but is ferocious, and whoever he plays on wont get a sniff!! We need more mongrel and he delivers that in abundance. I have no doubt he's capable of taking the best small/mid forwards in the comp. Yes he is small, but is great one on one and plays alot taller then u all think.

Hughes is a little stiff but its quite obvious the tiges are playing a smaller and quicker team this week. There could be rain so it does make sense.

As for Mcguane his form was tapering off a little so a week or 2 in the mcgoos is just the tonic. Thursfield in for him is quite exciting!!

Its also quite obvious that wallace is rotating the youngsters which in the long term will bear its riches... Its a frustrating wait I know, but we have no choice!!!

how about dropping duds like Kane Johnson, Tivendale, and Joel Bowden.

I think McGuane was stiff, he's been one our best this year, has a dip and shows some aggression.

Most of our players are pretenders and a bunch of nancy boys.

Yeah lets drop arguably our best player in Bowden..... I cant believe how much he cops. He's an out and out gun. He plays on quality forwards and gives away so much size each week and always does the job. He also proves plenty of drive and leadership.

Also lets drop our captain who even though he's playing with a broken bone in his hand, still manages to get the better of someone of the ilk of Shaun Bourgoyne. And people playing with broken bones are far from nancy boys.
We may lack skill, we may lack class and poise.... but I think were far from "Nancy boys".

Honestly mate think about what ur writing before u post it!!!

Yeah he reminds me of Jimmy Wynd of Fitzroy.

Little bloke who was getting a game where he would not get one at any other club.

Good triers both of them but just dont have it.

King would need that Chris Bond type tenacity which he doesnt have to make it. How long we keep him will be a barometer of if we are improving.

Mcguane would have been dropped for Thursfield.I agree he is unlucky but Adelaide dont have any real tall forward options for Mcguane to match up on. Maybe could have done a run with role on Burton, but he is in some doubt.
adelaide dont have any real tall options eh.even with injuries to many of their talls they can still play jerico at 190. perrie 193. bock 193. even welsh at 189 can be classified as a kpp.down back they have bassett at 190 rutten at 192 also they have named stevens on the bench to help out forward or back at 195. hudson and griffen are the ruckmen. thats 8 genuine talls in the one team most of them big bodied.

we have one genuine tall backman in polak. 2 tall forwards richo and schulz.
1 so called ruckman in pattison. and thursfield on the bench thats jus 5 genuine tall players selected what a joke what ever happened to team structure. all of hughes mcguane and riewoldt should be playing just for good team structure. and just on mcguane great leap great mark suspect kick. kicking aside he would make a great 3rd tall forward option.
based on the selected side you have to ask is terry really trying to win a game.

the side looks more balanced since round 5. with thursty in the backline should have enough height. delidio up forward should add some bite and pace to the forward line and stop it from being rebounded as easily as against port. we know the crows will flood with numbers back so they can use petts and delidio as alternative targets since they will try to crowd out schultz and richo. hope that edwards and meyer can pull their fingers out and win some contested ball.

Agreed that King is hard at it and genuinely puts in 100% every game HOWEVER he is not the future for a football club. His kicking is terrible (a common feature of recent Richmond recruits eg. JON, McGuane, Patto, Foley, Connors, Polo... could go on and on) he is too small and is generally not good enough at AFL level. His shot for goal against the Eagles was embarrasing, it was like watching a 12 year old have a crack at the goals from 50 in a pre-match sponsors competition...well at least he had a frickin shot unlike JON...Our recruiting is a debacle, Miller should resign....

Looks as though Wallace is looking at running the ball at the Crows much the same way the WCE did last year. Seems that is the way to beat them with run and handball before a long direct kick into the F50. If we can move the ball quickly and stop them from flooding back in numbers it could make for an interesting night. I see Deledio and Tambling picked in the FP and if both were to play that deep with Schulz leading it could cause headaches for the Crows defenders. Only Richo and Schulz as talls up forward and as mentioned with predicted rain the ball will spend plenty of time on the ground. Adelaides tall are going to be wasted with wet slippery conditions.

I have predicted the Tigers to win this game not just because I follow them but I truly believe it.

i like jake king he might not have to best skills he might not be a star player but he gives everything he is a workman type player like say Glenn acher not the most skills in the game but guts an hate his player getting the ball. give the kid a fair go he has played like 5 afl games so far. i hear tiger fans having a go at our young players all the time. they are young they will grow an with the lack of exp players in our side we will get smashed in a few games in the short term once alot of our young player get around the 30 game mark i recekon we will test any team like our first few game. we had our shot at winning them but didn't. we have a very raw team at the moment time will tell the story. our major problem is poor patty has to ruck against exp players week in week out he wasn't brought in to ruck but now has to take on them with richo our star forward(a move i'm happy about tho). we have lost nearly all our talls simmo, knobel, hall. we are forgetting about players to come back still. kinglesy, brown, simmo, coggy, knobel, hall all these players would be in our 22 in key postion our young guns are trying to fill the gap an trying hard but with key players out at the smae time they can only grow so fast. this year is a test for the supporters if any is. i hear people saying sack the coach sack the recruiting staff etc,cut him cut him etc. we are young an raw some players aren't ready for afl yet but are playing an some "fans" are bagging them for not playing awesome yet. Supporters key word Support.

so we are back to the same old same old pattern ay TW? We got used to it with Spud and now you have latched onto it. A core group of players that go in and out the revolving door. You must have tagged a few senior players as a protected species. I mean, if anyone can suggest that a Hyde has had 0.1% effect in any of the games this year then i give up. But he still gets picked. For what? I mean apart from polishing the wood on the bench, along with watching opposition players pull away from him, while he is "chasing", like he is standing still, ontop of maybe hitting one target, from his 10 possesions, how is this guy anything more than a player that makes us play with 21 players? Totally ineffective and basically useless. ;)

I said Mcguane was unlucky. I also agree that they have a few more genuine talls but Adelaide move the ball very quickly thru the midfield and you can understand why Terry has opted for a few more running players to talls.

The match ups will be something like Polak (194) will take Perrie, Bowden (188) will also take a tall probably bock. Jericho hasn't done anything at AFL level. Jackson (187) will most likely get Welsh. Then we have Thursfield on the bench as back up.

Deledio (189) will play forward and back. Tho i prefer him forward. Richo (195) and Schulz (193) will play forward. Pattison in the ruck.

Adelaide probably have 6 genuine talls Bock, Perrie, Rutten, Stevens, Griffen and hudson. We have Richo, Pattison, Schulz, Thursfield and Polak. Both teams have quite a few guys that can play tall. It cannot be helped that Simmonds and Knobel are both injured.

hes opted for a few more running types than talls has he. id say hes fielded a team of short people with no structure at all.

and lets get it right shall we. adelaide have fielded 8 genuine talls and we have fielded 5 genuine talls. you are happy it seems playing jackson bowden and deledio as talls. well heres a bit of news for ya they are all medium sized running players sheesh ferals wont even admit the blatantly obvious it seems wallace doesnt either. i wonder is it some sort of defense mechanism.
a question whos going to give pattison a spell or is he going to ruck all game without a spell at all. if i was a betting man polak will spell patto leaving the backline devoid of height and size.
the teams should have lined up like this.

fb thursfield mcguane newman.
welsh bock knights

hb deledio polak bowden/raines
vince perrie jericho

at least the structure is sound we have height pace and size and they can all kick except polak.

the forward line set up should have included one of riewoldt or hughes with one of them on the bench again it makes for good structure a strong chf richo a strong ff schulz and a 3rd tall option in either riewoldt or hughes being used in tandem of the bench. it also means one of them could go to a key post while richo gives pattison a spell.

i find it mind boggling that supporters cant see the lack of structure in the selected team. 8 or 9 genuine talls is the norm for most teams.if you dont believe me go check it out. ive been lamenting the lack of talls since 2002 this isnt a recent problem. ya know the funny thing is when we have had good structure ie gaspar fb hall chb and kellaway 3rd tall option these players have had big deficiencies in their games and we have floundered anyway.

First off its meant to be wet in adelaide tonight. So its understandable that you would play smalls and mediums over talls.

Welsh and basset are not genuine talls. If they are genuine talls so are tuck, Deledio and Bowden. These are guys who can play tall. So can Polo and Jackson is only 2cm shorter then welsh.

I have absolutely no idea. Its a problem i dont deny but you cannot predict injuries.

Bowden has been taking teams no.1 forwards for awhile now. I agree its not been ideal but that is how we have set up for 3 season, Mcguane would have got the third tall Welsh. I would rather Moore then Jackson on Welsh but i think jackson with his pace can match up on welsh.

One should have played forward and richo had to ruck. But now im not sure who will ruck for patto.

Most teams play 6 maybe 7 genuine talls with others that can play both tall and small. You cannot carry 8 or 9 geniune talls in todays game other wise you will get run off your feet. West Coast will play Cox, Glass, Lynch, Hansen, Seaby and Staker. Hunter, Embley, Stenglien and selwood will then play the role of tall and small. Its the same with adelaide. Welsh, burton and bassett play a mixture.

We are a tall short tonight. But its probably because of the weather and the fact that Bowden has being playing tall for 3 seasons.
