Smith is a monty but as an after thought did not Stiffy generally play well back in defense against the fast smaller forward types that Carlton have.

Yes i know he is not quite the player he was a couple of years ago & our coach has more or less gave him his marching orders.
Someone after my own heart. I don't think we've got anyone better than Stiffy to play on the slippery small forwards. Rotating Stiffy down back would be great for Laird and Brown's learning if they could be chosen in the same team. I cant see that he's not in our best 22.

Not a defender anymore - seems like an arbitary decision; brilliant.

Going by what Sando said Vince is a Monty, "dominated last weeks game" well Lyons would be leading our B&F if selected by that theory

Not having a go at you Jumbo, but this is exactly the type of attitude that we need to change to take it to the next level.

Last weeks performance is irrelevant - it isn't about dropping someone, it's about whether we have anybody outside of the 22 who played last week that can make us a better team this week.

It looks like you are having a go at me. :)

Nah, just asking the question does a player with a game in the SANFL walk straight back in to a team that played well.

Do you pick on form or reputation?

I ask because we have been baying for changes in the team by players in form over those staying in the team based on reputation. I agree that there are some players who should walk in after a match under their belt, does Smith make that list after such an interrupted pre season, seeing a lot of our issues are because our players have had interrupted pre seasons.

As I said I'd want both Lyons and Smith in but that has as much to do with my bias as it does knowledge

Sando seems to make it fairly plain who he rates and who is not in favour. Johncock is not in favour. Vince seems to have the ability to promptly kiss his way back into the side each time after his many 1 game holidays. I also think Porps needs to prove he has 'recovered' full toughness/ruggedness to Sando or his future will hover around 20-22 selection or worse. Vince and Smith in.

Bernie played well last year against Carlton, I'm not going to lose sleep if he's selected. I won't be overly happy as Lyons deserves a shot, but a fit and firing Vince is better than what Lyons has to offer at this stage. Smith for Crouch is a monty I reckon, has saved Laird's spot for a week or so.

We pick Vince after one week in the SANFL, he'll do exactly what he did last year when he returned against Carlton. Have a blinder as a downhill skiier, earn the praises of all and then proceed to do √F-ALL for the next six weeks.

Besides, Vince was good in the SANFL statswise, but was his performance any greater than what Lyons' has put out consistently since returning from his injury last year?

Vince should not get back in. He played a good game against Norwood, but as I mentioned in the SANFL thread, they were useless, another week to make a point.
Lyons and Smith for me now that Crouchy is a no go.

Laird probably doesn't deserve to be dropped, but more likely than Porps.

Should we not pick horses for courses?

Tankton have a quick outside team, its the sort of game Vince could look massive...

Vince for Crouch or Smith? Brodie Martin?!? Stiffy/Tambling?

We smashed them last year at the dome (oh yes remember that one..)

Will they risk playing Marc Murphy or will he sit this one out?

Disagree. I think Brown has played 3 respectable games out of 4 while id consider Jaensch has played 1 respectable game out of 4, maybe 2.
I suggest you re-watch the games.

Essendon - both were poor.
Brisbane - both OK.
Port - Jaensch > Brown
Bulldogs - both good.

Not much in. Personally I have Jaensch just ahead.

To say Jaensch has had 1 respectable game v 3 for Brown is strteching the truth a long way!

Best possible selection:
OUT: Crouch (inj), Porps
IN: Lyons, Smith

Worst possible:
OUT: Crouch, Laird
IN: Vince, Johncock/Callinan

Think it'll be something in the middle.
Won't be the worse case scenario as you can rule out Stiffy/Callinan.

Smith in for Crouch may be the only change.
Lyons for Porps if we decide we need the extra midfield run is a possibility.

Doubt there will be more than 2 changes & doubt Vince will come in ahead of Lyons.

Exactly, Vince needs to prove he can perform consistently over a number of weeks. Bringing him back proves nothing only that Vince doesn't need to fear demotion, at worst all that will happen is he'll be dropped for no more than a game, as he can dominate SANFL without breaking a sweat. Vince's issue is not talent, nor form, he's the type of player who can flick the switch at any point and turn from average player to superstar in the blink of an eye, that's if he's got the right mindset.

Steve Johnson was a similar case for Geelong, Johnson was for the most part a nothing player until he was banned for a number of weeks by the club. He was forced to face a life without football and he decided he really wanted football. Vince is a similar level talent who has been allowed to coast along for far too long. Sure we've dropped/suspended him for a week here or there, but he's always known he'd be back soon, all he'd need to do was put in for a week or two.

We need to force him to decide if he really wants to play AFL, or whether he's happy to waste his talent playing at a lower level. He needs 5 weeks in the SANFL minimum to show that he can perform to a high level consistently and not just enough to keep his spot in the side.

I worry that Sando may not have the kahuna's to do such a thing. I hope he proves me wrong, as a Vince truly committed to the cause could quickly become our most important player.

This week, with Crouch out I'd look at:
In: Lyons, Smith
Out: Crouch, Porplyzia

Smith to be sub, slowly work him back into it.

Brown wasn't poor against Essendon and then got injured.
Brown was more than ok against Brisbane and played like a veteran in that tense last qtr.

It's a monty that Vince will be selected after listening to Sando's comments, I feel for Lyons but I'm sure he will get a chance at some stage this season - I think Porps may be an in for Westies, so Crouch Porps out Smith Vince in.

Am I the only one with sympathy for Porps or are there others out there.

It's with a heavy heart that I agree he is on the knifes edge.

It is not with a heavy heart that I agree Vince should remain sidelined for a few more weeks.
