I am all for getting Lyons in the team, but although he has been tearing it up at SANFL level he is an unknown at AFL level. At the moment we have Laird, Kerridge, Brown all still AFL level unknowns in the team despite them looking solid we're away against a pretty solid team. We dont want to go in to inexperienced/unsure. Vince may be out of form but he did tear it up at SANFL level and is obviously above it. We need some stability and experience in the team or we're not going to make it ar this year.

Vince in form is a game breaker. I would rather give it a go getting him into form than cycle through unknowns. Then If he doesn't get there then he can stay dropped.

Exactly, Vince needs to prove he can perform consistently over a number of weeks. Bringing him back proves nothing only that Vince doesn't need to fear demotion, at worst all that will happen is he'll be dropped for no more than a game, as he can dominate SANFL without breaking a sweat. Vince's issue is not talent, nor form, he's the type of player who can flick the switch at any point and turn from average player to superstar in the blink of an eye, that's if he's got the right mindset.

Steve Johnson was a similar case for Geelong, Johnson was for the most part a nothing player until he was banned for a number of weeks by the club. He was forced to face a life without football and he decided he really wanted football. Vince is a similar level talent who has been allowed to coast along for far too long. Sure we've dropped/suspended him for a week here or there, but he's always known he'd be back soon, all he'd need to do was put in for a week or two.

We need to force him to decide if he really wants to play AFL, or whether he's happy to waste his talent playing at a lower level. He needs 5 weeks in the SANFL minimum to show that he can perform to a high level consistently and not just enough to keep his spot in the side.

I worry that Sando may not have the kahuna's to do such a thing. I hope he proves me wrong, as a Vince truly committed to the cause could quickly become our most important player.

This week, with Crouch out I'd look at:
In: Lyons, Smith
Out: Crouch, Porplyzia

Smith to be sub, slowly work him back into it.
That was due to severe off field issues that had been bubbling for a while and culminated in a big night out, don't even attempt to use that as an example when talking about Vince, as it isn't even remotely the same.

Ah **** off Sando you selection coward, Vince is an absolute lazy hack and will hack it up on Saturday, mark my words. What a shitty message to send to the team. One slightly above average game in the SANFL and all is forgiven, we need Vince's experience in being lazy, not putting his head over the ball and pulling out of contests.

**** this shit. We will never win a premiership with this limp selection policy.

So find a team you like.

See I don't think our problem so far has been cycling through unknowns. I think our instability has been caused by poor management of out of form experienced players.

Callinan mysteriously rushed back after injury. Plays one dreadful half and now seems to be gone from calculation.
Porplyzia starts poorly, demoted to sub but plays okay, poor again vs Port, back to sub, now gone. Apparently isn't even playing SANFL... how is he to regain form OR fitness?
Johncock looks finished, Sando agrees, kicks 7 against Sturt, straight back into the team only to suck again, gawn.
Vince is going straight down the Johncock path but I wouldn't be surprised if he manages one good game before going back to being dead weight.
Teflon Mackay finally drawing criticism for his lack of midfield production. So the response is to turn him into a backman on the fly?

I dunno, it feels like the selection committee struggles at making and backing up their supposed 'hard calls'.

Predictable team selections

Great to see Smith back as he is super important to our side
Vince needs a 25 quality possession game to justify Sando's faith in him
Glad to see that Kerridge, Laird and Lyon all retained their spots
Lyon is extremely unlucky however will get his chance very soon
Porpy should have been demoted to westies to find form

Ravenous Crow

Not to mention Sadomasochism did also say that Bling would play plenty of footy for us this year however than promotes a Rookie who plays the same role as Bling

Not saying promoting Laird was not the right decision, all I'm highlighting is the mixed messages

Have they travelled yet because I saw Kerridge at dinner tonight
don't they go the day before ....thaat the case they would fly over to Melbourne tomorrow (Frid)

On a positive note If they line up as written I like Smith up on a wing instead across half back.:thumbsu:
How long do you think it will take though for them to move him onto whoever is tearing Mackay a new one.

But in seriousness, One more shit game from Sauce and he may be close to the plank?

We cannot get smashed again at clearances this week...

Love to see Tambling come in and Martin....

To be fair TS Bling was playing good footy in the NAB cup .......running lines and kicking long

Saw him the other night against WWT and he was back to playing the same lazy crap he has for the last 2 years

I changed my mind on him PS as having changed his game .....to once again revert to my original thought that he's crap and just too high maintenance

I reckon Vince has got one shot. If he puts in a half arsed effort Sando will send him packing, possibly for good.
still reckon trade bait end of year

Smith in the wing gets a big thumbs up if it happens.

Interesting who will be the sub, Jaensch might be the one. Can't see them making Vince sub again.

i was frothing at the mouth at vince being an inclusion ahead of Lyons. then the unlikely voice of reason spoke to me and i realised that a 20 possie game from Vince will be seen as a failure. a 20 possie game from Lyons would be a triumph.

since we're trying to win this game of footy, Vince should play*

so you say Lyons will get his chance soon. What possible scenario can you see now that would get Lyons a chance "very soon"? is there a mid season trade period now?

***** me i'd still have Lyons in ahead of him though.
