I wonder what would have happened if Crouch wasn't injured? Would have been a very interesting selection!
Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
Would Vince be getting a game if Crouch wasn't injured ? Or does Vince come in and we drop another player ?
I think Smith was a certainty to come back.
I cant understand why people are so against playing younger players when they are performing better than the older guys ??
Hopefully Kerridge, Laird & Lynch put in another strong effort this week.
I'm looking forward to Lyons getting an opportunity soon hopefully.
It's great to have the pressure on for spots in the team.
I think Carlton are struggling a bit and I think we can win by a few goals this week
Do people realise Bernie has a very different role now than when he win the club champions award?
His inside midfield minutes have decreased and now he has to play as an outside running midfielder who doesn't get as many looks as he used to.
Lyons should have come in for Crouch - like fir like however, Vince should have come into the side for Porps as a like fir like.
If they wanted Smith in, he should have come in for either Laird or MJ as like for like players.

Absolutely.. but comfortable for a youngster still equates to less output and consistency than a 111 game player, even a lazy one like Vince, can be expected to produce.Lyons has played a couple of games Vader. He looked very comfortable in his limited minutes.
Vince deserved another week in the SANFL..
Disagree.
He is a quality player who was actually pretty decent in his last game as the sub. Was undisciplined and his poor decision making cost us. Thats what made him lose his spot.
He went back to the SANFL and dominated as was expected.
He has earned the right to reclaim his spot. If he has a stinker - i think we will see him go back to the SANFL for a good 3-4 weeks and not return until he is absolutely dominating the SANFL.
I just dont see what a week in the SANFL does for him... 2 - 3 weeks of good footy in the SANFL and maybe it wakes him up a bit, and we get the Bernie back we all know and love!!
He learns as much from 1 week as he does from 2-3. Players like Vince / Johncock / Callinan are waaaay too good for SANFL so sending them back is basically just a warning shot. Go back perform in the seconds and you get another shot. If you don't perform when you come back then you have an extended stint on the sidelines.
I don't think we will see Johncock near selection for the next 2-3 weeks, same with Callinan until he starts tearing up the SANFL. I think Porps will bust his balls on the training track and then come in against the Hawks with the knowledge that if he doesn't produce then he has an extended stint in the magoo's....
I really want to see David Mackay get the vest this week. Has been as ordinary as Porps & Vince and should be next in the firing line.
I saw his dropping as more of an attitude thing, thats why thinking 2 - 3 weeks might sort him out. To me 1 weeks does not fix his attitude. I reckon the vest might be a bit of a shock this week: Lynch or Hendo. although agree with D-Mac
Absolutely.. but comfortable for a youngster still equates to less output and consistency than a 111 game player, even a lazy one like Vince, can be expected to produce.
Lyons' non-selection wasn't so much about Lyons vs Vince, as it was about Kerridge, Lynch & Laird all coming into the team last week, with one more inexperienced kid being likely to be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I agree.. but Porps also needed to be dropped.. so something had to give.
The Crows knew earlier in the week that Porps would not be picked for the Crows this week, so they should have cleared him to play.Problem is that West played on Thursday.. before team selections were officially announced.
I'm suggesting that for better player management, that we would have been better off naming Johnson or Martin as an emergency instead of Porps, so he could be cleared to play for Westies. How is he going to regain touch playing on the sidelines? What difference does it make to Porps? His SANFL team has already played this round, so he's not going to get a game either way, whether he's travelling emergency or not.
Johnson & Martin weren't named on the emergency list, so they're not eligible for selection anyway. That just leaves McKernan, whose SANFL form is woeful at best and who is only on the emergency list by default, in case something happens to JJ or Jacobs between Thursday and Saturday afternoon.
Smith & Lyons for Poplyzia & Vince would not have been a significant drop in experience. Swapping 1 experienced/settled player & 1 rookie.By dropping Johncock and Vince last week, with VB injured, we were down around 500 games experience last week. The team still managed to win and win well, albeit against one of the weakest teams in the competition.
This week we've dropped Porps, who is a 114 game player. The selectors had the option of replacing him with a debutant, or a 111 game player. Unlike last week, we have a serious opponent this week, who could well kick our butts. In the short term, even an average game by the 111 game player is likely to be more productive than a good game by the debutant. In the longer term, the club would probably benefit more in the longer term by continuing the debutant's player development.
At some point you have to reach a tipping point - when the number of rookies in the team is too many and the lack of experience begins to hurt. This is a fine line - between success (as per our game vs Bulldogs) and failure (GC & GWS ongoing inability to win games). We already have 11x players in the team with <50 games experience and just 5x with 100+. Is it wise to alter that mix further, changing the balance to 12 & 4? Is that the tipping point, particularly against a quality opponent such as Carlton?
I can understand why the selectors chose Vince over Lyons. I also think that people throwing hissy fits over this need to grow up and think before they hit the send button. Yes, we'd all like to see Lyons get a game (sooner rather than later), but the selection of Vince this week makes a lot of sense.
That's the thing though, those 14 disposals were absolutely worthless. His intensity was so poor that he basically cost us any chance of a comeback, and against a bunch of kids FFS. You only have to look at Sando's reaction in the box that day. That sort of putrid form and attitude isn't fixed by one week at WWT, where no doubt he is worshipped as a hero by his teammates, fans and club as a whole. If Lyons came in and got 6 kicks and 8 handballs for the game it would be heralded as a very solid game for a youngster.
Vince did it in his last game in just over a quarter and has been hated for it. Im not going to dismiss his undisciplined disposal for which he has been duly punished, but please people, a bit of perspective.
