Hill is fast. I'd say he, Wellingham, Shep, Shuey or Priddis would win in a 30-40m foot race.Hills not fast.
Agree. His pressure acts are awesome. So underrated.I was at the game and thought Hill's defensive efforts were great. He's probably the most unfairly scapegoated player in our team.
Barrass can't go with Daniher on the lead, so I suspect it would need to be McGovern. They won't be bringing it in high, so we can do without the web. Will be good test of our coaching flexibility.I would have said switch Barrass for Schofield, but I think Daniher is the perfect test for the Big B to bounce back against next week.
No change.
Agreed, but I have confidence that the Essendon running brigade is one of the few that our midfield should be able to match in terms of pace. Heppell, Watson, Goddard, Myers, Kelly are all fairly slow and even Zaharakis/Merrett etc. aren't exactly blistering. The Essendon forward setup is a rather unique challenge - three genuine talls (Daniher, Hooker and Stewart) and three genuine smalls (Fantasia, Tippa and Greene) with seemingly no in-betweeners.
Hurn and Sheppard are likely to struggle for agility on the smalls and don't have the height to go with their talls
Going to be some interesting matchups
Games at Etihad which is only 5or 6 metres wider than subi so width isn't an issue there as much as it is at the MCGAgreed, but I have confidence that the Essendon running brigade is one of the few that our midfield should be able to match in terms of pace. If we focus on pressuring them up-field then we can restrict their scoring with McGovern and Barrass intercepting poor entries.
Though we'll have to come up with an effective defensive gameplan over the wider expanses which we never seem to get going.
Oh, for some reason I thought it was at the G. Which is stupid because obviously we aren't there until Sheptember.Games at Etihad which is only 5or 6 metres wider than subi so width isn't an issue there as much as it is at the MCG
That I could live with. Wise.Only change I'd make is bring in Nelson if fit for butler
Against green, fantasia and the smiling assassin we need the pace down back,
Righteo Dick Tface. Every time you;ve been confident of an away win we've lost this year. How about you zip it for a week, hey?Oh, for some reason I thought it was at the G. Which is stupid because obviously we aren't there until Sheptember.
I'm pretty confident of getting a result next week.

Not sure how we are going to cover one speedy small forward let alone 3.

Mackenzie might be a good addition to handle the 3 Essendon mobile tall forwards.Mackenzie had a good WAFL game, that is true
But he played as a forward with an occasional run in the ruck. Didn't play as a defender all game
So I had a quick look at Essendon's ruck stocks and it seems they're only sticking with Leuenberger. He wasn't overly influential tonight, only breaking even with Zac Smith in hitouts at 32 vs 30, and I think he got around 5 more hitouts to advantage if I remember correctly.
So going on that quick glance, I'd back the McInnes and Vardy compo over bringing in Giles for ruck dominance.
Because it means there's more space to cover with the web, which means more gaps, which means teams find it easier to get throughWhy is width an issue? The ball can't be switched any quicker at mcg than any other ground. Plus same for both teams.
Barass made a few blues but Schofield is not great man on man. I think Barass stays but he has to lift his game as we have 2 good options in eMac and Schofield if he doesn't tighten his defence up.I would have said switch Barrass for Schofield, but I think Daniher is the perfect test for the Big B to bounce back against next week.
