Sam Butler seems to be alternating between good games and shit games. Hope he bucks the trend next week and puts in a good effort away from home.
One thing that's consistent is his ability to hold the ball up and wait at least 10 seconds before kicking it, mostly either sideways or long down the line because the opposition's had 10 seconds to flood back and fill in the gaps.

You would expect Cripps to come back but for who is the question? Would be a shame to see Mutimer dropped.
Petrie is a possibility too but hard to drop either Vardy or McInnes after tonight.
Not sure on when Nelson is due back but is a possibility for Butler

Definitely thought Hill did some good things tonight
Yep watching again without emotion, certainly has been putting on pressure without the reward thus far (9 mins remain 2nd qtr)

Don't really like the idea of dropping Muts but he is still on the lower end of the guys who played tonight. Didn't do much wrong but still adjusting to the speed and intensity at AFL.

Never been a big fan of Fraser, but he took his opportunity tonight. If he keeps playing that way he is far more likely to be on the list next year than Giles or Petrie.

Have to retract my comments on Hill tonight.

Worked very hard defensively for little to no reward.

Just because he gets 20+ touches doesn't mean he's played good. The continual hold up of play is a real struggle for us. I don't think the mids work hard enough, but neither does he to move the ball on quick enough. If he stopped doing the hold up of play and long down the line maneuver he thinks works 18+ times a game, we'd be farking dangerous.

Wish there better options, but kinda agree with this, Redden seems to just wait to receive the ball, and usually looks to give it off immediately without trying to look for a better option or carrying the ball forward.
The give off immeadiately by hands is a great trait to have if the runner is at speed and you put a farrrking hit on his opponent. Too many flaming times did he give it and not block ****ing up the situation significantly.

His match awareness is god awful and stupid. I'm sorry at 26 years old and we're up by 7 points don't pass the ****ing ball off to a dangerous spot in our 50, its the dying stages of the game, you don't know how much ****ing time is left and they have pressing us hard. Have the shot, milk the clock you dumb campaigner.

To his defence he looks stoned all the time.

I thought he was cleaner than both Gaff and Priddis tonight, his performance has definitely been trending upwards this season. If he can start getting 22-25 disposals a game he will go a long way to strengthening the midfield. Also have to consider that due to Priddis's inability to play anywhere but on ball that he doesn't get as much time on ball as he should. I think Redden is going to be a lot more useful for us going forward than some people realise.

Hill was fine, also confused by the criticism of him though that's not new.

Mutimer was OK but I'd swap him for a fit Cripps and that'll do me for the changes.

McInnes was immense, even though he wasn't against great ruck opposition. If Giles got this long from the Adelaide game last year I'd be telling McInnes he's in for the next month at least.

Not looking at his touches on a stats sheet. Watching what i see him do defensively and Hurn was the only person hitting targets at hbf. Most others were bombing it down the line

Thought priddis started off well then died and another quietish game from shuey. I'd look at may be resting priddis but not sure how close the bye is. Maybe barrass out for schoey or McKenzie

Must have been watching a different game to you fogs, no way hill goes out. Go watch a replay and look at his defensive pressure
Applying defensive pressure is all well and good however you still need to get the ball. No good having 22 players laying defensive pressure but not touching the ball.

I disagree with this so called "defensive pressure" anyhow. How often do you see him, yes putting slight pressure on but not actually making a tackle. He's happy to chase a few metres behind but not put his body on the line. For all his defensive acts he laid "2" tackles last night.

I just don't get the people madly defending Hill. I'd rather a player who perhaps puts a little less pressure on but provides an option up the ground so we don't have to continually bomb it away. It's exactly what Hill "should" be doing.

I don't want to see Mutimer dropped, I actually want him to stay in the team and start to get an odd run through the midfield as a chop out, we have to get out of this habit of just giving a young bloke a taste.
Give him another 4 games and then let his form decide his fate.
I thought he was handy last night but as a permanent half forward they are setting him up to fail.

When Cripps is ready move Butler on, send Hill to half back.

As for next week, no changes unless forced.

As long as they don't have to play against someone like Ryder

The bye is still 3 weeks away for those wondering - we have Essendon (A), GWS (H) and Gold Coast (A) before the bye

Simpson has said Cripps, Nelson and Petrie are all a chance for next week. Cripps is the only one of those that would be an automatic inclusion whilst Nelson would certainly be considered. Mcinness had a solid game and deserves another so can't justify Petrie coming straight back in after 7 weeks out

Mutimer the most likely out for Cripps, Butler for Nelson

Subject to any standout performances today for East Pertth
