This is delicious.

Carbine Chaos what say you?
I say people are blowing their beans over one game from Fraser and forgetting everything Petters brings to this side.

McInnes will probably get the nod anyway, but Petters is the better option going forward this year.

How about Petrie has way more experience in Melbourne. That's a fair reason.
Nelson in for Butler
Petrie in for McInnes
Cripps in for Redden or Hill (Melbourne form)
Anymore changes to a side that just beat last years premiers?

Brings what exactly? Petrie is God awful and hasn't played in 7 weeks.
The only game he's played for the club he made a solid contribution with a broken hand.

Being put straight back into the squad shows Simpson and the MC realise his value.

According to Basil we have a new player this weekend, Jordan Nelson. Can anyone tell me anything about him? Is he a Cat B rookie? When did we pick him up? Is he as tall as Gov? How tall is Gov btw? Does he run at crazy subtle angles?

Clearly not obsessed, just a fan.

Basil zempilas...smh.

Worst commentator ever. Talks without actually thinking about what he's saying.

Loves the sound of his own voice.

Disagree entirely.
34 year old coming off a 7 week layoff with zero form coming in and didn't really set the world on fire before he went out.
McInnes has all the enthusiasm of someone proving themselves and had a great game last week. Is more mobile and not on the wrong side of 30.

I don't think Petrie will play either but it's wrong if he does imo.

I'm not calling for Petrie to replace McInnes this weekend.

But I'd say it'll happen over the next 2-3 weeks.

"Didn't really set the world on fire" - he had a broken hand, what did people expect? Soldiered on admirably that match and should get nothing but praise for it.

Petrie will offer more than Mcinness eventually because he's a better player

For this weekend though Mcinness gets the nod because a) he deserves to be rewarded for his solid form last week and b) Petrie has had a substantial lay off and is not that vital that he comes straight back in without getting match practice with EP

Agree 100% CC, the way he soldiered on was pretty damn impressive for a 34 year old. Hell, after reading his draft interviews I liked him from the getgo.

That being said, McInnes really showed something against the Doggies, and I feel he'll keep it up until the end of the year. Additionally, playing for your career can be a pretty big motivation.

Hope you are wrong in short time regarding better player...I thought McInness was gone, (didn't want him selected:() but gee, he played well last week.
As you spoke about, his kicking was VERY good and his mobility surprised me as well. Definitely seemed to have 'intent'.
Really hoping he absolutely smashes it and keeps a good player like Petrie out of the team on merit. We'll be a lot better if that's the case.
Got a bit more love for big Frase now, tempered with the fact it was only one game. Hope that game was a stepping stone to better things.
He certainly has the right attributes to play AFL consistently.

The whole selecting Petrie after missing 7 games is a bit of a slap in the face to McInnes.

I was perusing the stats today and I noticed that Petrie hasn't had more than 15 hit outs (the number McInnes had on the weekend), since North's last game of the 2008 season. So we're now into our 9th year where Petrie hasn't produced a ruck game like Fraser's against the Bulldogs, but he's named in the team right after a 7 week injury?

Either McInnes or Vardy are under a cloud or this stinks.

I'm not happy about this at all

Agreed.

Petrie's no ruck.

He's averaged less than one hit out per game in the past three seasons

So you think we'll likely play Lycett and Vardy together once Lycett is fit?
Good question and it will depend on whether Vardy can give us enough as a KPF and a chop out in the ruck. Or is Darling likely to be able to play more a power forward and ruck?

Flag favourites GWS play all 3 of Cameron, Patton and Lobb together in their forward line plus Mummy which would be the equivalent of us playing JK at FF, Vardy at CHF and Darling as high HF plus NicNat or Lycett.

It brings about a decent debate as to whether the modern game only needs 1 ruck, 2 KPF and 2 KPD and 1 or 2 tweeners at the 190 to 194 cm level that have genuine leg speed and can also play tall.

In the last decade or so, the football world devalued those at the 190 to 194 cm mark and labelled them tweeners. Also tried to turn many of them into big bodied midfielders.

Looking at better sides, Adelaide have Lynch and McGovern at the 191 cm mark alongside Walker and Jenkins. Sydney have Tippet, Buddy and Reid with Sinclair or Naismith in ruck. Geelong are using Taylor as a swingman (albeit not that well). Doggies play - who knows! Will they play Roughie and Boyd as well as Cloke and Redpath and Stringer? It is an evolving debate and it will be interesting to see how the trend goes. For us, our best 22 is with NicNat rucking. That said, he needs at least a 20% chop out in the ruck. Both NN and Lycett are useful in the forward line so it has worked.

I suspect we will not have resolution in 2017 and this debate will roll into 2018 since we will not see much (if any) of NicNat in 2017 to fine tune our best 22.

Someone tell me that Petrie has had at least two games in the ressies before EVEN being considered for a dangerous away game against a hungry and speedy bumbers outfit.

**** me, if Petrie plays without a few games and he stinks it up I'll be livid.

Surely WCE couldn't possibly be that daft?

Actually, I reckon that would be par for the course for the club ATM

WOuld like to see Nelson back in, need to pump games into the campaigner.

Keep Frase and **** petrie off IMO.

East Perth play on Saturday. I would be concerned if Nelson and Cripps are left out and travel as the emergency. With that in mind, I would probably only go for 1 change and bring in Nelson and have Butler as the emergency.

McInnes showed enough to keep out Petrie (tempting as it is to play Petrie at his old home ground) and worried about adding Cripps back from a leg injury and possibly underdone on the running front.

Starting to get back to a position whereby we have genuine options to select from.

No way 2 reasonably long term injured players travel as emergencies. They either play or get game time in the reserves
