He's in the side as a goal kicker and statistically he hasn't really delivered

To be fair none of our forwards bar Kennedy has delivered as expected this year. He is 4th for goals, equal second for goals assists, 4th for score involvements and averages more disposals than Darling. Not sure what you mean by "statistically he has not really delivered."

50% correct so far. Wait for late change Redden out for Nelson.

Need Nelson's leg speed for Tippa or Fantasia
Credit where credit is due

Did Nelson fly?

Hill unlucky but

4th for goals is hardly impressive given he is an 'offensive' forward and somewhat one dimensional in this respect. 1.5 goals a game is moderate, maybe I'm being a bit harsh but my point is that he probably isn't kicking enough goals given, in my view, he offers little defensively other than a reasonable chase. By comparison, Cripps is better at locking it in and I don't think we lose out too much offensively. As for Darling, I agree that Hill has been better, but Darling offers more structurally I guess.

No argument that he wasn't a bit unlucky to be dropped but I can see why it was him to an extent.

4th or 5th for goals (behind Kennedy, Darling and Lecras) at around 1.5 goals a game is what I would expect from Hill. I think we would be lot better with both Hill and Cripps in the forward line. Cripps when fit is a lock for best 22. They should have taken Mutimer (who plays out of his natural position anyway) out to make way for Cripps. Think Mutimer will be very good for us as a midfielder in the future but at present Hill provides a lot more as a forward.

Agree, Mutimer lucky to hold his spot on performance and what he is presently offering. He is having a go and showing a bit but on raw form I don't think he is currently best 22, and shouldn't be in front of Hill. Hill's omission is a bit of a message to the playing group, don't perform and you could be out.

Hills defence is fine. I'd guess he's one of our best at getting a HTB decision go his way, better than Cripps imo despite Cripps being the far better tackler. Creates space for himself when he has the ball, is very hard to get hands on in congestion and can spot up a forward after evading some tackles or have a ping himself.

The thing that irks me is he does plenty off the ball, people aren't happy. He has a game where he kicks goals, people aren't happy. I think he's a scapegoat but he offers more than Mutimer and Essendon are not easy beats. I'd have felt more comfortable with the best available side.

The one advantage Mutimer offers is a possible rotation through the middle, but his tank might not be big enough so he might just roll to the bench instead.

Wow, the FB brigade really don't rate Josh Hill.

Hill will spend two / three weeks in the WALF and come back in and get back to his best again. I've noticed this for several years, a third of the way through the season it looks like he needs to back off and freshen up a bit and when he comes back in he looks like a new man with his mojo back. Recon he just starts picking up sore spots and bruises from a couple of months playing AFL intense games and it wears him down a bit.

Sorry CC, but McInnes > Petrie

Really?o_O

What has McInnes actually achieved? A couple of promising performances at AFL level.

Don't get me wrong I'm a McInnes fan and hope we retain he into the future, fantastic depth KP / ruck who may eventually become a good AFL player. But to say McInnes has Petrie covered is just premature adulation.:D

Surprised by that change but by retaining Mutimer in the side it shows they are keeping faith in the younger players if they perform

A little surprised by the MC but a good move to show Hill to work harder when he comes back in .

He only had 2 disposals to halftime then got a talking too and responded with 6 disposals in 3rd quarter and then dropped back down to 2 disposals in the last quarter when we were under siege ..

This is it and why i see why he was dropped. When the going got tough hill disappeared.

High pressure act count can often mean that a player's second to the ball and reactive, putting in defensive effort after not being in the right position in the first place is great but a lot less effective than just getting to the ball initially.

Either way this would have been coming for a while, it's not like Mutimer has been playing undroppable football so obviously Hill is falling down in areas he's been told to address.

Bit rough on Hill; had two, three and two goals in the three games before last week. And Simpson admits our biggest problem is supply and getting the ball inside 50. Can't expect much more from Hill if the ball isn't coming in enough. Sounds like it's the midfield that needs work.

I'd rather have Hill & Nelson in the side than Redden or Priddis at the moment. Hill kicks goals that no one else can and he has pace & pressure when the opposition have the ball. Nelson has pace, attacks the footy and can use it well when running through the middle. Priddis is cooked and Redden offers **** all but 8 handballs a game. Mitchell, Shuey, Duggan, Sheed, Mutes, Yeo, Gaff, Masto and even Cripps Nelson and Wellers can run through the middle if needed. Makes us pacier immediately.

Both Redden & Priddis out?

From an area where we struggle? The contested ball.

Not sure that is wise Eaglemaniac

EDIT: you said OR. Apologies. Reckon you may have a case

At the present time I meant.

Yeah I agree that as a forward Hill offers more. That being said, Mutimer has gotten better every game and the upshot of his inclusion is that the experience he will get from continuing to pick up the speed of AFL. We will have to see how the formation works tomorrow.

Just watched the boys down at Wesly
Cripps looked a bit proppy ...
Hill was running around with a big smile
..i cheekly asked him if hes playing. ..
body language suggests he is
Interesting .....but no sign of Darling anywhere
Fraser was looked really sharp
Butler was in the back 6 drills.
Bit of a crowd down there..guys as usual happy to mix and sign stuff.
