Changes v Bombers

To stop complacency.

That would be a stupid reason to make a change. Bring in player B even though player A played better just to stop complacency?

I agree with the above. Why change something that is working.
We MUST persist with 3 tall setup. Even though Tippet didn't kick 10 goals yesterday what he does provide is a target. He frees up other players such as Tex to kick 5. Our forward line looks 10x better when he is sitting there.

It was the only excuse I could think of to make a change. Besides Maric played shit.

After checking out the SANFL results, I'd drop Maric and bring in Gill.

Gill is equal to Tippett up forward at this stage of Tip's career, and will release Tippett to the forward/2R role whilst still keeping the talls balance up forward.

If Gill is not considered part of our future plans, then Sellar could be in line for another opportunity which would be great. Even McKernan for a debut would be worth a shot given the output of the current 22nd man. If Griffin is fit he obviously is a huge consideration also but may be surplus to requirements against the Bombers.

If we go small then Armstrong could debut or Reilly or Petrenko to return.

Good to see some competition for spots.

Great debate re Tippett.

But i tell you what, he did make a big difference to the structure! Unfortunately for him he is getting crunched in the packs but on numerous occasions he was outnumbered and brought the ball to ground, did some tough body work even if he should keep his feet more. By keeping it in and making a contest it led to team goals even if he didnt get a stat for it.

Even Fisty gets it. It can't be that hard to understand.

Firstly I would like to say what is wrong with this board this week. Ive been through 4 pages and not seen a call for Moran's head once. Shame on you ;).
I see no changes this week but I would be pleased to see Maric out and McKernan in

You are getting personal for some unknown reason?

How about you challenge the content of my posts rather than just looking at who wrote them?

Oh i see a pattern...this is how you judge how well a player went:rolleyes:

Lighten up lad. No need to be so precious. Simply making humor of the fact that you agreed with me on something. ;)

I'd say unchanged for now.Possibly Symes for Reilly, but not entirely sure.

I really want to see Smack have a go this year, preferably against a team that hasn't got such a powerful ruck combination. :thumbsu:

Maric - give him a rocket with an ultimatum
That's a hard nazi b*st*rd approach - ruin our youngsters ? You could see Maric drop his head when he stuffed one up. There are other ways than machine-gunning people, you know.

Unless it's a Maric for Griffin swap, I'd go in unchanged. We should not only go with a structure that's working, but also exploit Essendon's depleted ruck stocks. You would think having 3 rucks to rotate on Ryder would give us a huge advantage, having said that though I think Ryder rucked on his own against Collingwood for most of the game and did well.

Can I also go on record as someone who doesn't really rate Symes, to say that he thoroughly deserves to retain his spot after his performances the last couple of weeks.

And to young Dogga, you've come good the last couple of weeks - back to the form of '08 :thumbsu: Keep it up son!

Yeah he did, but has since shared the ruck duties. We lost our second ruck, Bellchambers, against Geelong. We'll probably still find someone to help Paddy out in the ruck, though who is anyone's guess. I've read posts suggesting Hooker or Lucas. If Lucas then he can obviously rotate through the forward line with Paddy. I don't know if Neagle can ruck. He's tall enough and has a bigger body.

Looking forward to playing Adelaide. Really played into some awesome form the last two weeks and I reckon will be one of our toughest games this year.

Seeing Craigy wouldnt play Walker last year I doubt that he will get the nod, especially with the list being reasonably healthy atm.

Yeah, Ryder won't ruck the whole game, will be swapped with someone. Only reason he played 100% game time and all of it in the ruck on ANZAC day is he was BOG at the time so they didn't change it. (He won the ANZAC day medal for his ruckwork.)

Would probably be smart to go a tall forward structure, we're a few tall defenders short at the moment. Although on the other hand, we're also missing many of our key midfielders, so you could potentially try and exploit that too.

In any case, good luck on the weekend boys. Always enjoy watching us play your mob, you've got a nice and honest team who I genuinely don't hate (one of only a few clubs:p)

No changes for mine - but I'd like to see (well, I won't see it, but I'd like for the following to happen) Maric put on notice and told that he needs to lift his game or else Griffin will be knocking his door down. I don't like the way each ruckman seems to come in for two weeks, underperform, then get replaced but really, we need to see effort. Griffin had 10 touches and 20-odd hitouts on the weekend so there's some SANFL form, but put him on ice with his injury for a week and let Maric know that if he doesn't bring back his 08 form there's someone there waiting to take his place.

Reilly hopefully to get a game or two in the SANFL to prove he's got the form to warrant selection.

McKernan is an interesting one and they've been touting him all year but I'd be very surprised. Not beyond the realms of possibility, especially with one injured and two below-par performing ruckmen, but I have a very hard time imagining it.

Not sure about this week. Personally, I think it'd be harsh to drop Maric. I know his form wasn't/isn't great but I think everyone deserves a game or two to adjust and get their form back up to AFL standards.

Maric in for one more game, but on shaky ground.

I dont disagree with your comment regarding Maric, only to say that we can sometimes be blinded by reading too much into a players individual stats.
We won the game against the reigning premiers. It says more about our structure and team performance than some of the drivel people conjure up about individual statistics.

Agreed. And Tippett contributes to that structure, which is contributing to our improved performances.

Honestly, if you manage to shut down our run out of defence through the corridor, then I don't see too many problems for Adelaide this week.
The defensive aspect of Adelaide's game is ridiculously good. If we can't get decent delivery to the forward line, it makes life difficult for our leading forwards in Lloyd, Neagle and Monfries.
Maybe if we had a full strength side our defence might have made life equally difficult for your forwards (currently our defence is missing Fletcher, Hurley, Dempsey) which would have made life a lot easier trying to shut down Walker and the Porpoise etc.
Battle of the midfields I say.
Any differing opinions?

Essendon midfielders will need to break the lines and kick goals. Adelaide will need to win the clearances.

Maybe reily for maric.

As good as it sounds to stretch them for height, i could see it being used against us. They are quick and will have to use that to win, the dome is a fast track too. Will be interesting to see, my moneys on the extra runner.

.

Reilly was hardly out of form when dropped .......more like just squeezed out

I called Maric 3 weeks ago that his attitude wasn't what was needed and that his recall to the Crows side was apart from premature was not warranted till he got that attitude correct.

Ryder will jump ALL OVER Maric and he's hardly a great forwrd option ATS ...... Ryder will better suit Moran

I would drop Maric and try Sellar in ruck .......what better opportunity against Ryder and ......well who else have Essendon got to back Ryder
