You could make a case for numerous changes but think Ross will just make straight swap.
In. Clarke
Out. Apeness.
Would rather see,
In. Fyffe, Sandilands, Pearce A, Bennell, Johnson.
Out. Take your pick.

Tabs was pretty ordinary in the ruck from what I can remember. I understand he had to ruck once Apeness went off but he was in the ruck in the 2nd qtr. Apeness struggled in the ruck even more than Tabs did and only recorded 1 hitout. Somehow Daniher jumped on his head at one centre bounce.

Yeah apeness has a lot to learn about rucking. Already excites the pants off me as a forward though

what, in particular excited you ?
I saw one hand marking attempts, not getting to the marking contest in time, being caught out of position several times.
Apart from a couple of hard hits in a contest and two tackles, there was little to enthuse.

It's always in the eye of the beholder Fred. Where you see a guy out of position or not getting to marking contests in time, I see another misdirected shallow entry from your mate Danyle

I'm going to watch this game again now and I would bet the marking contests that I saw Apeness be caught out of position for were not from Danyle's kicks.
In any case, irrespective of who kicked the ball, the other players who got to it read it much better than Appy.
Sorry, but I think this wasn't a good game for Michael.

I have had a while to contemplate this weeks selections. Initially I was "Apeness out, Clarke in"....But on further reflection, I am not sure this is the best thing. As RTB says "is 1 and 21 any different to 2 and 20?".
Its a game we can win for sure, but realistically is Clarke going to make that much difference to the result? Probably no.
That been said, I am all for Ross chucking a new bloke in: Smith, Uber or even re-try Hannath.
We dont need wholesale changes, just to replace Ape. I am actually leaning toward Hannath now. WAFL reports tell us he is as slow as a wet week...But throw him in and tell him to show something or this is his last season! (Probably will be anyway!)
18 games in 3 and a bit seasons. May as well give him a game as opposed to just clogging the list. I am pretty sure that any player in his position would understand that his career is on the line...This could make him do something!
Clarke has had plenty of chances already and still shows very little.

It might have been coincidental but what got me excited was that the other forwards seemed freed up and hence played a lot better. Pav, Mayne and Ballas in particular all seemed to appreciate another big body down there crashing through.
As I say it might have been a coincidence but then again...............

When Melbourne played Brisbane Hogan used his running ability to cause big head aches for Merritt who got found out when ever turn overs occurred .Hogan was able to get back into space in the forward line . I would be more inclined to use Eubergang as a replacement for Apeness rather than Hannath .

Disappointed Apeness isn't playing. Key forwards usually carve us up and now we've been robbed of him kicking 5 goals and someone commentating how "Apeness has gone bananas here at the Gabba!" What a tragedy for all.

Please bring in Uebergang though because as i understand it trading works something like this.

1. Team drafts interstate player
2. Interstate player plays first game back in home state
3. Interstate player is locked in their parents/grandmothers/auntys basement while back home until such time as they agree to return home after their next contract
4. Interstate player plays out contract (maybe even a 1 year extension) until they're developed and then request trade back home.

You know, that and I really want to listen to whoevers commentating put their foot in their mouth and say something with sexual inuendo followed by awkward silence. If not this week hopefully when it happens BT is on duty.

Best opposition supporter post ever?

he looked totally lost.

he also seems hugely tanked out legs and not that tanked above the waste?

either way other than the hit on Goddard he was MIA for the majority of the game. He had 4 touches in 3 quarters so probably makes sense.

I don't think he was being unfair with that comment. I thought Apeness had a bad game bar his mark on the wing and his hit on Floggard. I rewatched his 2 games in '14 last week and it was much the same. Part of it is the rest of our team not seeking him out yet. I do think having 3 tall forwards made our forward line more effective.

He is 3 games into his career coming off a significant injury. He is going to be inconsistent and have plenty of shockers. This is the same for almost all tall forwards. When he gets to 50 odd games then we can start judging him for real. Until then I don't think it's a problem calling a good game good and a bad game bad.

This is a myth. People keep on quoting these facts about how Riewoldt or Walker or any other number of key forwards had comparatively poor numbers in their early games. Who gives a shit, every one that saw them play with half a football brain knew they were going to be good players after watching their early games, even if their numbers were poor.
You only need to watch Apeness at training and how he can kill a ball and hit a pack to know he's going to be a good contested mark if he stays fit. Since we have lacked that for years, that alone is enough to get excited. Whether he turns into the full package no doubt depends on his bloody beep tests and skin folds and psychometric profile and all the other mumbo-jumbo we love to hear about. I bet D Pearce, for example, does fantastically in all these things, he just can't play football well.
