Thommo won't be able to use his 'hardness' when he's 25m away from his direct opponent
Thompson's main weakness as he ages has been inability to keep up with the increasingly fast pace of the game.

His only real hope would be if there were some sort of absurd rule introduced that significantly slowed the time it takes for a stoppage to occur. Maybe something laughable like having the umpire wait for a ruckman to stick his hand in the air.

There is no point dropping Jenkins at this stage. We all know he struggles with anything more than a bruised fingernail BUT he has been one of the best key forwards in the AFL in 2015 and 2016. He has played poorly over the last 2 weeks but so has about 20 other players. The forwards were given no chance against the Kangas and all the forwards struggled on Saturday night.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Hampton dropped (Greenwood for Hampton is a straight swap) however he played well defensively in the first 6 weeks.

Otten deserves to keep his place before some I have retained but I doubt if even you believe he is a better key forward/ruckman than Jenkins. Talia, Lever and Hartigan are in front of him as tall/tallish defenders so IMHO he is the next in line if any of these guys are not available.

Kelly is a very honest footballer but I would prefer to see what the next players in line have to offer. Menzel works hard and always looks like he about to have a breakout game but he must kick goals if he wants to keep his spot.

I would like to see some or all of Greenwood, Beech, Wigg, Poholke, Doedee and Gallucci given a chance over the next 8 weeks. Can we afford to keep playing journeymen who make little or no difference to team performance on their best day's out?
Jenkins had the season of his career last year and leveraged that to hold the club to ransom with a contract he did not deserve. Good luck to him, well played Jenkins. He is a soft ordinary player who i would be happy to trade and even pay part of his wage to get a draft pick and free up space for a real forward in gov. If we lose Gov and Lever due to Jenkins and Brad Crouch then they have lost me.

If Pyke's solution to the last 2 weeks is to bring back Thommo then he has lost me as a fan. At the moment, my blame is (fairly or unfairly) directed towards Camporeale and Clarke, giving some benefit of the doubt to Pyke. But this decision will remove any doubt that Pyke will not win us a flag.
I'd add blame to most of the players refusing to commit to winning the contest (any contest)

JR got mookayed.

True. But a lot of that is a cultural thing that has to come from coaches first and then carried out by the teams leaders. Unfortunately our leaders are a bit tame. Sloane, Talia, Eddie, Laird. Not much mongrel there.

What is Brett Kirk up to now. Maybe need to bring a guy like that in as one of the midfield coaches.

At least he might be able to get the ball out of a contested situation unlike what we have ATM

When he is not giving away a free kick or having an easy handpass chopped out while our players run forward and find themselves out of position. Watch opposition scores from turnovers sky rocket.

Thommo coming in might not be such a bad thing even if only to show the rest of our team the intensity required to win contested games. He'll jog to every contest I know, he won't be 2 way running I know but hopefully he'll be able to win some contested ball and feed it out to our runners (who are actually not that bad in case we've forgotten.) He may also help to take a bit of heat off Sloane. Our MF balance is way off right now, something has to change. He was given another year not only to mentor the kids in the 2's but for emergencies as well. We have an emergency right now. Thommos time is now.

Didn't Pyke say the other day that Thommo needs to play some games to force his way in? We've just had a bye, so he hasn't done that yet.

No because he never runs

The last two games have created a pattern for success that will ensure every single side adopts the exact same tactics against us.

It's completely fine that a game plan isn't successful against every tactic and style. What we need to prove is that we have alternative game plan(s) that can likewise counter this current style challenging us.

Let's not be stubborn and blindly attempt to "back in our gamelan". Pykey, don't let your pride get in the way of winning football games. Use your brain and out think the opposition.

Im hoping there is an element of pressure testing the game plan in the last 2 weeks. Hopefully he has worked out that it doesn't handle the pressure and the coaches have some work to do.
