Can't be good for the morale of the squad either. In time it will only generate a dichotomy between favourites and those on the outer.

The favourites will become secure/lazy and those on the outer will see less and less point when they are never rewarded and see the favorites skipping through on mediocre performances.

It's all well and good to pay lip service to "pressure for spots" but unless you reward it it will die and so will the effect it has on driving those in the 22 to put in their best efforts

The biggest question will be who is the two most out of form players in the team you would have to rate in this order

1 JJ
2 Hampton
3 Menzel
4 Mackay

Pretty easy to see who should be cut

The fact that we don't select new players ever unless there's 12 injuries explains why we didn't select any last week. Because they're not experienced enough you see. :tearsofjoy:

I mean seriously, this is just so laughable. Don't try to rationalise it! "Well we've never played these guys before, so we can't start now! Better bring back Menzel and keep Hampton and Mackay in, we know they're shit so let's go with the known quantity rather than taking a punt". Yayyy.

Greenwood should have played last week in place of one of Hampton or Mackay at the very least, that is undeniable.

I agree that nobody else is banging the door down (although Beech was earlier in the season and we refused to select him, instead opting for Troy "4 possessions" Menzel against the Suns I believe it was), but when you've got guys putting out putrid displays, they shouldn't need to be banging it down per se.

We should not be sitting here on the eve of Round 9 2017, with none of Wigg, Greenwood or Beech having ever debuted. There's no defence for it.

The best clubs make statements on selection night and drop underperforming veterans. The best clubs trial their young talent and get them AFL game time before they turn 21. The best clubs respond to criticism about their toughness by making a statement on the field the following week. The best clubs protect their best players when they are tagged.

Until we start taking a page out of that book, we won't be one of the best clubs.

Yeah....even with Superbad injury list didn't WB drop Stringer late in the premiership season to enforce the 'team first' message to him?

Hey now, let's not take any leaves out of that premiership winning booklet there friend. That's madness. Let's blow another top 4 spot by being complacent, ski downhill in an elimination final and then get hammered by a more desperate opponent in a semi. #pick13forever

How did a few others miss out like C.C whose last 2 games were awful and Kelly who not up to standard and had 1 good game and even in that game made turnovers which you are hanging Menzel for even though he was very competitive last game and applied real pressure unlike 70 % 0f team mates.
Like did you read today that Brown and Hartigan had no tackles . Hey not like the ball wasn't in their area.
Also have to find a role for Otten like a key forward in JJ role or extra back or leave out.

Big day for the teams direction at match commitee today. More of the same or players being dropped for continual weak performances? I predict more of the same with Lever and possibly Knight in if fit.

5AA reporting that Don Pyke is weighing up whether to swing the axe or stick with the squad.

Don.

Don, Don, Don.

Surely you're not being serious. There is only one choice to make here.

I think we all know what will happen sadly. He will make minimum changes, smash brisbane which will justify the same poor performers to keep their spot and then fail when it matters. Rinse and repeat. Stubbornness and lack of creativity gets you out the door as craig discovered and buckley will find out this year.

All 4 should be cut. Completely agree that they are the 4 least deserving of holding their spots after last week. Don't quote agree on the order but who cares.

Menzel will probably have "(corked thigh)" written next to his name on the team sheet tonight to avoid hurting people's feelings. Either that or we'll play him injured and he won't get near it.

Selectors will somehow find a way to select 2 of the other 3. Ill go out on a limb and say there's no chance in hell they'll drop Jenkins. In fact, they'll probably drop Otten instead. "Because pace".

Mackay and Hampton are probably left fighting for one spot. One is outside and doesn't get the ball, the other is inside and doesn't get the ball. A Battle Royale at the selection table.

Genuinely nervous about selection today. Could well be a season defining moment.
I think that at the very least Lever and Knight (if fit) come in, probably for Menzel and Otten (although I'd drop JJ before Otten). I think one of Otten/JJ has to make way for Lever or we're too tall
If we're serious though, Mackay and Hampton would also be out, and give Wigg and Greenwood a game. Based on their performances the last 2 weeks (maybe longer), there is no justification for either of these guys staying in the team. Guys playing their first game, even if they don't play well, would struggle to have less impact.

"Inside midfield belted two weeks in a row leading to losses, clearly we need to drop a key forward, a medium forward, and an outside mid, because it was all their fault"

It's amazing the kind of mental hoops people will jump through to blame Mackay and Jenkins every week and demand their axing.

You missed Hamptons name in there? What position is he playing?

Also we can't drop Sloane after 2 poor games.

Bit like blaming the Crouches every week despite others performing worse wouldn't you say?

I missed Hampton because I'd drop Hampton too, since he's apparently playing inside mid without actually looking like it.

Out: B. Crouch, Hampton, Otten
In: Greenwood, ?, Lever

Brad's miserably shit performances the last two weeks had a greater negative contribution to our results the last two weeks than anything bar Sloane not breaking his tag, whether you shut your eyes and pretend otherwise or not.

You drop Crouch due to Form, but keep JJ in, Why?

Solve the major problem, inside midfield, first, then fix the other problems - fragile medium defence, underperforming outside mids, lacklustre KPFs - if they continue after it is fixed and prove to be unrelated to the major problem.

Chopping and changing the outside mids and the forward line while doing nothing to the inside midfield achieves nothing, especially if we run over a cellar dweller like Brisbane and just put the 20th coat of paper over the same crack.

If we drop Hampton we've done something.

Sloane has to lift, he can't keep being shut out of games, if he does he becomes next to useless and his career will implode.

Those 2 changes will improve our midfield.

Drop Brad and who replaces him?

If our midfield is to improve we need:

Sloane, Matt, Brad, Douglas and one other midfielder, hopefully Greenwood, playing well.

But it Sloane doesn't improve then we are ****ed, dropping Brad will achieve nothing but make your year.

If the problem exists that any player is a waste of space out there, they should be dropped immediatly not one problem at a time, personally I see Crouch whilst not setting the world on fire at least cntributing to what we need out of him, obviously sloane needs the finger pointed at him, he is the highest paid player on the list so either he performs or we need another guy we pay the big bucks to like a Martin, for what Crouch gets in salary he is not far off the mark. JJ as a key forward is failing to live up to his pay packet by a mile, Ottens has outperformed and is on far less coin. Again he could be replaced by someone else in the league who gets paid the big bucks and performs if this contnues, however JJ just neeeds to find form so let him do that in the SANFL

We have zero that can replace Brad, the players in the two's arent ball magnets , the only one capable of being a ball magnet is a bit old and would be an enormous risk even I would admit that although I liked him and hoped he could get back to a certain condition to contribute its seeming less and less likely

Brad Crouch would be 5th in line. He's been terrible two weeks in a row. Another performance like that against Brisbane and he'll be an out for me. I thought he was excellent against Gold Coast but that memory is fading fast. He only holds his spot because we really only have 1 inside mid worthy of coming in (Greenwood).

Hampton has been terrible 5 out of 8 weeks, including the last 2.

Mackay has been terrible 5 out of 8 weeks, including the last 2.

Jenkins just looks completely lost. His lack of effort and pressure is worse than it has ever been. Send a message to the playing group that this isn't acceptable.

Menzel isn't AFL standard.

As for the inside midfield being smashed, I agree. For mine, Hampton has to go. If B Crouch has another shocker, he has to go. However, I feel we've been smashed in more areas than just the inside midfield over the past two weeks, and it's time for the passengers to alight.
