I like Greenwood but I am concerned we have developed a pretty soft team

If Greenwood can't debut against the bottom team when there are plenty in the team out of form who need replacing, then he'll never debut.

Greenwood does need to debut and needed to debut weeks ago. I feel pyke has come in with the mantra to win as many games as possible as his priority. As is the priority of most coaches, but the real question is how you go about that. He feels this can be done by keeping experienced plateaud players in our team such as Mackay that are on a downward trend over a young player that will have peaks and troughs. His philosophy is wrong and flawed. The young player has the potential to reach a higher ceiling than a player on a downward trend but there is some inconsistency. His philosophy may apply to business but not a football team. His kpi's are to win games by developing a premiership mentality and culture. He is meeting the games kpi but not developing the premiership mentality. Time to start building a winning culture that may win less games initially but will succeed when it matters.

How does having slow midfielders around you make you look slow? Shouldnt it be the other way around?

In a 100 metre sprint yes, at a midfield stoppage I don't believe so. Because we continually lost the outside battle then ofcoarse his lack of pace got highlighted. Now that we have the outside talent we actually now can't win the ball on the inside. Would love a slow Thompson of a couple years ago right about now

Only thing I can say regarding thommo is that when he was a regular we had a team full of inside slow mids which made him look even slower. Things have changed a bit since then as in we have a team full of outside types. Milera, Atkins, smith, Cameron, McKay, Hampton etc. I personally wouldn't pick thommo in the team but I reckon it would be interesting to see how the midfield would go with him in their combined with the outside players.

All these were playing with Thommo last year. He's even slower and also not in form now. They're not picking Thompson.

The last two games have created a pattern for success that will ensure every single side adopts the exact same tactics against us.

It's completely fine that a game plan isn't successful against every tactic and style. What we need to prove is that we have alternative game plan(s) that can likewise counter this current style challenging us.

Let's not be stubborn and blindly attempt to "back in our gamelan". Pykey, don't let your pride get in the way of winning football games. Use your brain and out think the opposition.
This is much better than in 2005/6 when teams let us go the entire season completely unaware of what was in store come finals.

I can't see Thompson being selected, I can't recall him making the emergency list once in the opening 8 rounds

Not to mention after last week's game Pyley talked about the need to improve our pace at the contest and this in itself rules Thompson out

I would be shocked and disappointed if Thompson plays ahead of Greenwood, Beech and even young Miles

The unfortunate thing for the current players is the rest of the Comp has been watching how we have been beaten and beaten easily In our games without question and for the remainder of the season it will become more physical that is an absolute given

What players have we got that can take the physical nature of the game that will be applied

In: Greenwood, Knight ( if fit), Poholke, Doedee, Lever
Out: Mackay, Jenkins, Menzel, B Crouch, Kelly

Laird (midfield) and Smith (wing) need to replace Hampton ( half back) and Cameron (forward pocket). Otten (full forward to replace Jenkins. Knight (half forward if fit). Doedee (half back). Greenwood and Poholke to start interchange.

Brown Hartigan Lever
Doedee Talia Hampton
Atkins Sloane Smith
Lynch Walker Knight
Betts Otten Cameron

Jacobs M Crouch Laird

Douglas Greenwood Poholke Milera/Wigg
First person I have seen mention mention.

IMO he is more capable if making a impact at AFL level now than Wigg or Gallucci.

Greenwood first then Doedee the Poholke in terms if our young SANFL players.

We need more mature physical players to counter what we are about to cop from the other 17 clubs

Greenwood Beech Wigg Cheney Seedsman look better to handle this treatment

IMHO no he's not carrying an injury judging on last week, just think he has been ordinary like most of the team because both the Roos and Dees just didn't let us get any space or overlap run going to any great degree.
If you're talking about CC I don't think he's injured either. I was at the game and there was nothing wrong with his running. Melbourne just did a great job in blocking him up. Every time he got a run on there was Melbourne players guarding space so he couldn't get too far. I think he'll be good to go.

I get ya.

I just think our outsider and inside mids need to go back to applying manic pressure on their clearance players like they did in rds1-6.
That pressure has dropped off to non-existant levels in the last 2 weeks. We were never getting first hands on the ball to begin with, we were just hammering their inside mids causing turnovers. Rory is a big player in all of this so the team just need to work out how to get him into the game. Id tell him to start playing a tagging role himself I.E dont worry about the ball Rory just go all tackle beast on any of their guys getting the ball.

Thommo is not the answer. I Hope we juat drop a tall and throw CC back onto the ball.

Exactly this, posters that are saying players are playing injured are just making up BS excuses, if they are on they park they are capable of playing stop making excuses for poor form or being beaten, a hell of a lot AFL players in every team are carrying some niggle and play well with them .

If anyone has played footy knows when youre in form everything goes right , when your not you may aswell be sitting on the bench or in the two's

Drop out of form and bring in form, you cant live in hope they will come good make them come good

You have to look at what the opposition are doing and deciding if they will continue to do it, unfortunatly for us with the media highlighting we are suspect to a physical game that is what we are going to cop for the rest of the year one because teh media are beating up on it and two because the unbeatable was beaten with it

They will need a team to cope with it, is the present team capable

So your saying if you're playing but carrying an injury you will have no diminished output?
