Banfield is fine, you're in a pretty good spot if he's in that 21-22 spot in your squad.

Edit: I was also pleasantly surprised to see nobody on social media complaining about Will Brodie, perhaps people have finally moved to the acceptance stage that he just doesn't fit our squad?

I feel that Banfield/O'Driscoll playing ahead of Walker/Simpson is the type of selection call that'll be heralded a masterstroke if we win i.e. JL backing in his core group that have played the majority of games. If we lose and those two play poorly he'll be regarded as conservative to the end, unwilling to take risks.

Hopefully the former.
Not in this case to be honest.
Simpson and Walker aren’t first in starters. If that’s where the game is loss, it’ll be the midfield.

Walker for me is interesting. Don’t want to upset the balance of the defence?

We should know for sure next week if we get no new injuries and Young and Johnson are both passed fit.

Though I heard they're likely to run Johnson through the WAFL to test the ankle out.

Yeah I agree re Young and Johnson although both won't play his role and the team would need a reshuffle.

Simpson and Walker got injured at the wrong time. I think both are better options.

All jokes aside Banman is a solid utility. Simpson def and possibly Walker are future so next year he may be squeezed out, even this year as Matt said the squeeze may come with Young and MJ but, for the moment enjoy the memes. Some quality stuff coming through.

So he gets away with poor games

1 howler in a game doesn’t mean it’s a bad one either unless it’s very costly in the final few minutes.
It does if you're one of this boards designated whipping boys.

Seriously our worst player last week got dropped. As for discussing who was second worst - IMO it's a waste of time.

Nod was 2nd worst, Banners 3rd for mine. Unless you have A graders coming back from injury or we lose, I like to have a 2 week bad game policy and give players a chance to redeem themselves after a stinker.

I think it creates more drive for improvement from the playing group and better stability for the individuals. It sort of goes out the window for finals though, you almost have to pick your best 23 at the start and only change it if there are injuries.

The thing with banners he does do some good things but his bad things are horrible. He could save 2 goals and set up 1 but his 6 mistakes are 5.1 the other way. It will eventually cost us a game. Walker is the same
Simpson on the other hand his mistakes weren’t costing goal after goal

Agree with Banfield being a good utility but that shouldn’t mean he’s a first choice defender ahead of Simpson & Walker, both of which would probably give us more offensively and just as much defensively.

Some of Bailey’s disposals have been both decent and shocking out of our defensive half as well as some very slow decisions, which will cost us in a final. He also doesn’t have a right foot and if he isn’t reeling onto that left, he’s in trouble.

IMO, our upside is so much higher with Coops coming out of defense. D50 to F50 transition is so important and as good as this team is, we don’t have enough players in this squad who can do it aggressively.

I don't disagree with this, but Banfield is exceptionally versatile, even by general utility standards (has performed at a satisfactory/high level across all three lines in multiple positions across the field). So whilst Cooper would likely be the better positional choice, you'd struggle to mitigate any of the risk of using Fyfe as the sub. If Fyfe starts, then Banfield to sub with Cooper in makes sense. I know people may point at Wags, but he can't plug in at HFF.
