Fair crack. Yes he had a down game this week but have you actually been watching the last 6 weeks or so. He has been bloody good and has consistently outplayed Adcock. His skills have been excellent in that time. I have no idea where you got the idea that his disposal was shaky last week. Last week he had 24 disposals at 87% efficiency. The week before he had 25 disposals at 89%.

There is no way in hell he should be dropped. He is developing into a top range small defender and everyone has a down game every now and then.

That's fair, but it feels as though a decent amount of that 11-13 per cent has led to direct turnovers inside our defensive 50. To some extent that may be the nature of his position, but I have watched all of the last 6 or so weeks and have been puzzled at times by his decision making.

I like Harwood a lot, and I'm not baying for blood, but when he messes up he messes up ugly. It's good that he doesn't take the conservative option all the time, but I feel like sometimes there is a better balance to be struck.

Still, Leppa spoke about him pretty positively recently (can't remember when exactly) and those numbers do make a compelling point.

For me I think we need to get some more run through the midfield. Leppa loves to go in over sized but it comes at the expense of run and midfield rotations. We are coming off our biggest EVER defeat at the Gabba. Some changes need to be made. For me they would be:

Out - McStay, Taylor, Freeman, Close
In - O'Brien, Lester, Leuenberger, Paine

Outs

McStay - lots of criticism of Harwood for his turn overs in dangerous spots but McStay conceded more goals through his work. I like his attacking game but we have been carrying him for experience and I think it is time to go back to the ressies and work on what he has learned for the last few weeks.

Taylor - only RS eligible player to play every game this year. He looks a bit tired and I would give him a week off to freshen up for a big last couple of weeks to try and secure the RS award.

Freeman - was miles away. Got a glimpse and now he should know what he needs to work on.

Close - had a fair run of games and shown a little bit without setting the world on fire. He needs to make more use of his elite running ability.

Ins

O'Brien - consistently in our best couple each week in the ressies. There are a few things to work on but he deserves games and it is going to help him going forward plus we need his ball winning ability.

Lester - I am not as sold as many on him but again he comes in to help win the contested ball after a BOG in the ressies.

Leuenberger - Martin was smashed on the weekend and Witts was touched up by the WC trio. Time to try and do the same wtih a return of Leuey.

Paine - there is no better opportunity to see if Paine has what it takes than against his former side.

Others

Robertson - did well early, took some very good contested marks, is improving his spread and disposal skills and is a big body that we could use around the ball. Still needs to adjust a bit better to the speed of the game but the best place to do that is actually in the AFL.

Harwood - see my post above. He has been consistently one of our best the last 6 weeks. To drop him seems like scapegoating.

Aish - is making a run at the RS and was rested a few weeks ago. Let him give it his best shot.

Merrett - could get dropped but he is still the one who provides the best contest for our smalls to work off up forward.

McGrath - a decent chance to come back in. I have no issue either way.

Beams - has had a good run in the seniors and had trouble finding it. I give him a few weeks in teh ressies to get used to the taste of chasing the leather again.

Bewick made as many howlers as did McStay. Bewick I think had a particularly poor game but is another who has turned his season around over the last month and I am willing to give him a pass on a bad day. I am surprised people are lining up to hook Harwood but are giving Bewick a pass.

Out: Merrett, Freeman, Taylor
In: Paine, Lisle, Beams

Wishful thinking with Lisle I think.

Lester and Z'Ob need to come in in my opinion. Use them both as extractors and they will be very effective.

Freeman can stay in, if not give Lisle one last shot.

If all the above were changed:

In: Lester, O'Brian, Lisle
Out: Freeman, Robertson, Harwood

Harwood isn't a like for like, but he deserves to be dropped. His attitude is horrible at the moment and should get a run in the 2's. Lester and O'brian and swap around in the backline.

As much as I'd like to see Moosey have one last chance, the time for that is long gone. He's never going to play again.

I don't see any changes being made to the side this round, especially if we're going the whole "play the kids" route for the end of the season. And there's no way in hell Merrett will get dropped, no matter how much he could potentially use a brea.

OUT - Merrett, Harwood
IN - ZOB, Mcgrath/Lester

We have nothing to lose so I don't see why we should drop Freeman or Robbo, might as well give them some senior experience. Expecting Freeman to have a much better game against the worst defense in the league.

I can understand the frustration with some of Robbo's decision making/awareness, but I really think he deserves another couple of games. His disposal and ability to spread from the contest really seem to have improved. There are still plenty of things he needs to work on, but I don't think there's much he can learn about those things in the NEAFL.
Bewick made as many howlers as did McStay. Bewick I think had a particularly poor game but is another who has turned his season around over the last month and I am willing to give him a pass on a bad day. I am surprised people are lining up to hook Harwood but are giving Bewick a pass.
Bewick, Harwood and McStay were all liabilities out there.
Harwood, for all the good things he does, just has too many brain fades to survive in his position long term. I really hope he either works on it or is surpassed by someone else next year.

If you drop kids for making mistakes, then they'll never learn.

A habit Vossy got into was continual dropping of kids, I praise Leppa for sticking with them and eventually getting rewarded for doing so.

People are also quick to forget all the praise Robbo was getting on this very board just a month or 2 ago, he just needs more time at senior level to adjust and adapt.

I suspect players like Harwood and Bewick would be in the firing line, they should know better and a kick up the bum is worth more to them then shooting down a kid who had a stinker.

Ins- lester, obrien and luey if ready
Outs- who ever they want although I'm in favour of giving Robbo and freeman another crack.

Really hope luey is ready as we need a genuine tap ruck man in the side

So sick of hearing people calling for lisle to come back in, what five years not long enough to prove his worth? Spell me.

So with that thinking in mind Geelong should have delisted Tom Hawkins, took at least 5 years to get going and he has had much more game time than Lisle ever has. Big men take time. Lisle when played forward is kicking bags of goals in the ressies, what more can he do? Worth a try for the last few games but it isn't going to happen, he'll be at a Vic club next year maybe the Doggies, Carlton or the Saints. Mitch Clark couldn't play as a forward when Browny was next to him but ripped it apart at Melbourne where he had room to move, Lisle could do the same, he has played decent games before when Browny was out but his had limited opportunities since. I'd be very surprised if his Afl career is done and dusted, he'd be worth the punt if a club could get him cheap.

Lisle is soft as butter at least Hawkins wanted to crash packs and throw the dukes at anything in his vicinity from day dot. Lisle has always been 6 foot 4 and full of **** all

Totally agree on the whole Hawkins analogy. We are to quick to give up on a fwd. and would rather lisle in the fwd line than Merrett.
That said how does Freemans 1st game stack up against big JBs 1st game?

Yet he dragged us back into the game Vs freo at pattersons last year with good contested marking and straight kicking

Tom Hawkins is not a valid comparison.
I also doubt Lilse will be picked up by anyone else, he really just hasn't shown enough to justify it.

Having thought about it, I'd keep Freeman in. If he was good enough to make the side against Adelaide, then he should be persisted with. Giving him the last few games at this stage of the year isn't going to hurt anybody.

Lachie Henderson is doing well at Carlton this year, leading their goal kicking and seen as a vital part of the side. Interesting that many of the criticisms of Lisle are similar to criticisms levelled at Henderson when he was a Lion.

My team would be...

FF: Green, Close, McGrath
HF: Crisp, Martin, Zorko
C: Paperone, Hanley, Adcock
HB: Patfull, Clarke, Mayes
FB: Harwood, Maguire, Gardiner
Foll: Leuenberger, Beams, Rockliff
Int: Hayes, Aish, McStay
Sub: Merrett

OUT: Robertson (for development) , Freeman (knows what its about), Taylor (rested), Bewick (carve up in reserves get confidence back up)
IN: McGrath (as a forward target), Beams (as a midfielder), Hayes (as a midfielder), Leuenberger (if fit, otherwise Bewick stays and Ash plays as FF)

Merrett as sub so he can be an impact player. He'd love it - might get his form back.

I would do this largely because I want to see if Martin can take and own the HF (sometimes rucking) job...

No way would I drop Robbo. I did not think he was as bad as made out. Got caught a couple of times looking for the perfect option. Got caught a couple of times due to hospital handpasses. Apart from that was OK. Some good marks & delivery . He will only learn, & the best place to do that is on the job.
