Yeah, the young bodies and minds do seem to be tiring which is understandable. I think we should brace ourselves for some serious repeat pain over these last few games.

Everyone that's calling for Aish to be dropped/rested-
James Aish (Brisbane Lions)
Aish was the highest-scoring first-year player on the weekend, despite playing in a 100-point loss. He had 17 disposals at 82 per cent efficiency, eight contested possessions and 19 pressure acts. He ranks second for points scored this season by first-year players.

Tom Hawkins is not a valid comparison.
.

What makes you say that. Apart from the odd game he was ordinary early on, wasn't until about his 5th year or maybe his 4th season that he started to come good, Lisle hasn't had anywhere near his game time so he was never really given a decent run at it. It seems his papers are stamped anyway. Something needs to change in our forward set up cause the current one isn't working. The issue to me is Merrett but the fact he can crash packs seems to be his saving grace around these parts. Maybe Leuy can fill that void but i wouldn't call him a cannon ball either.

I understand why people don't want Lisle in, some people actually seem angry about the suggestion which makes me laugh.

I think if there was ever a chance to give him another shot it is this week. It won't hinder anyone's development and even if we're set on trading him it can only up his $$$ rise. Either way I don't get the aggression, man.

I think it's because it seems that playing Lisle means we lose Sauce.

I think that is a ridiculous notion, when Merrett gets his confidence back up he can always play down back again, or even stay up forward as a foil for whichever forward is playing.

Personally, I think Lisle has been jerked around a bit - after one of his best games up forward last year, they sent him down back. He's a victim of the same thing as Merrett for mine, alas unlike Sauce he doesn't have the credits in the bank.

Lilse is not going to solve any problems in our fwd line(also has very little in common with Hawkins or Henderson).
I was on the Lilse wagon for a while last year, but I think it's time we all admit that he just doesn't have what it takes and isn't going to make it.
In - McGrath, Beams, Lisle, Raines, Polkinghorne, Lester, Paine
Out - Freeman, McStay, Robertson, Bewick, Merrett, Close, Clarke (injured)
Do you want to lose by 100 next week as well??

I "liked" your post Dylan, but I'm starting to think that might just be force of habit. ;)

I would continue to go tall and keep Freeman in the side and not include Paine. Rest look fine. It would be great to give Raines, Lisle, McGrath and the Incredible Polk three farewell games to finish the season off.

Yes, I was being more than a little facetious with a few of those "ins", but I would have thought that would have been more than obvious.;)

That being said, I was deadly serious about Raines, but no doubt we'll be more than happy for Pendlebury, Swan and Beams to do as they please, so it won't happen.

I seriously don't get the mindset behind play guys like Polks, Raines, Lisle and to an extent Mcgrath. These guys are simply not going to be part of our future and are most certainly not apart of our plans going forward. What good would it do to these kids by dropping them and bringing in below par players. It is just a waste of time on absolutely everything we have been building towards this year. Play the kids, give them the exposure that they require and which wont be present at NEAFL level.

That's great to read. Still, I don't see the harm in resting him, it helped a lot last time and his impact has been down the last couple of weeks using his stronger games this season as the benchmark.

I'm wary of running first year players into the ground as well, as good as Aish has been. Either way I'm sure the selection panel and coaching staff will make the informed call on it. If the club decides he's still operating as well as he can be then that works for me. If they decide to give him a rest and let him play the last two games full of beans that's fine with me too.

Well I like 'em! I'd particularly love to see Polkinghorne roosting a few torpedo punts out of the centre, Lisle kicking more goals in a game or two than Merrett has kicked in a season, Ash McGrath dodging and weaving for a few more games and Raines tagging another great midfielder out of a match. Don't forget that I'm going to the Collingwood game and it would be my chance to say goodbye.

I had heard this thinking expressed a couple of times this year. I think it has really started to catch on.

I think the issue with putting those blokes up for selection is that their cards have been stamped already, even if it doesn't seem fair. Three games isn't enough time to change the coaches minds for mine.

Was interesting to note Moloney saying that Moloney/Davis had 'offered him the opportunity' for what I'm assuming he meant was a farewell game - McGrath's probably the only other bloke retiring and surely he'll get one.

Yet, Merrett is?
Of course Merrett isn't but you need that big body presence in a forward line to simply crash packs and bring the ball to ground when required. Close doesn't have the size yet required to do this just yet. Who would you bring in for Merrett? You can not honestly say you would give Lisle a game ahead of him

I think Dylan would. I agree with you Lions08. Merrett is a beast. Let him take their best and biggest defender and make everyone around him scared and hurt.

Exactly, Gives Close a chance to develop at the level required while being followed around by the no. 2 defender until he is mature enough to take the mantle.

My team would be...

FF: Green, Close, McGrath
HF: Crisp, Martin, Zorko
C: Paperone, Hanley, Adcock
HB: Patfull, Clarke, Mayes
FB: Harwood, Maguire, Gardiner
Foll: Leuenberger, Beams, Rockliff
Int: Hayes, Aish, McStay
Sub: Merrett

OUT: Robertson (for development) , Freeman (knows what its about), Taylor (rested), Bewick (carve up in reserves get confidence back up)
IN: McGrath (as a forward target), Beams (as a midfielder), Hayes (as a midfielder), Leuenberger (if fit, otherwise Bewick stays and Ash plays as FF)

Merrett as sub so he can be an impact player. He'd love it - might get his form back.
Sorry, but there is alot there l don't agree with.
Hayes.
Leuy as the main ruck.
Robbo for 1 game then out.
Merret as sub,he isn't an impact player.
Close as FF

Unfortunately the time to give these guys one last chance was 2-3 weeks ago. It's completely unfair on some of them, but that's the way it is.

I remember a horrible game against Collingwood last year when we got flogged in the wet. They will be all out for percentage this week.
I would like to see leppa keep the young squad together to give us some stability going forward. We have pretty much seen what most bring to the table each week now.Johnno needs to be retained.First game nerves against Adelaide,he should be over that.Saying that I would like to see Zac O'Brien get a run in the seniors as his apprenticeship in the two's has been good.

If Lisle got more than 7 disposals and kicked a solitary goal we would be better off. Do people remember the final game of last season against a top flight Geelong? Lisle was great in that game. He had 10 disposals, took 5 marks and kicked 3 goals 1. Worth a shot for the rest of the year I would have said. Really, what do we have to lose?

The biggest reason. People don't want to see Lisle get a run is that they don't want to be shown to have been wrong and that includes Leppitsch and the match committee. Imagine how they would look if he came in and played really well. How would Leppitsch look if Lisle came in and kicked a couple of bags in the last three rounds? It certainly would make their continued selection of a wretchedly out of from forward who has been soundly beaten in almost every game he has played this year, yet is asked week in and week out to play exactly the same role, look fairly ridiculous.
