The biggest reason. People don't want to see Lisle get a run is that they don't want to be shown to have been wrong and that includes Leppitsch and the match committee.

No. I dont want to see again and again a strapping lad of over 195 centimetres get knocked off the ball by players kiloes lighter and a head shorter contest after contest.

I know ... "The Horror. The Horror."

Everyone that's calling for Aish to be dropped/rested-
James Aish (Brisbane Lions)
Aish was the highest-scoring first-year player on the weekend, despite playing in a 100-point loss. He had 17 disposals at 82 per cent efficiency, eight contested possessions and 19 pressure acts. He ranks second for points scored this season by first-year players.

That's interesting. I was one of those people, and I definitely had the impression he looked tired, but those are not the numbers of someone fading out of the game. It's probably tempting to assume he needs a rest because he spends a lot of time under packs for a lightly built kid.

If Lisle got more than 7 disposals and kicked a solitary goal we would be better off. Do people remember the final game of last season against a top flight Geelong? Lisle was great in that game. He had 10 disposals, took 5 marks and kicked 3 goals 1. Worth a shot for the rest of the year I would have said. Really, what do we have to lose?

The biggest reason. People don't want to see Lisle get a run is that they don't want to be shown to have been wrong and that includes Leppitsch and the match committee. Imagine how they would look if he came in and played really well. How would Leppitsch look if Lisle came in and kicked a couple of bags in the last three rounds? It certainly would make their continued selection of a wretchedly out of from forward who has been soundly beaten in almost every game he has played this year, yet is asked week in and week out to play exactly the same role, look fairly ridiculous.
As John has said, he is a big bloke but he doesn't have that killer instinct that Merrett does. Merrett will crash packs all day. As hard as he possibly can! He is a big unit. If Lisle was to come in, you would have to say that Close would get there best defender as there is no real threat with Lisle. He has only kicked a bag of more than 1 goal 3 times in his career. If you are going to keep bringing up the game against Geelong where Lisle kicked three, how about the 5 games last year when Merrett kicked more than 1 goal. Lisle just isn't cut out to play at the top level.

Did anyone notice that Freeman, Close and McStay (when forward) did absolutely nothing (except Freeman's one hander!) when Sauce was moved back?
Is that proof enough that he's of value as a forward, keeping AA quality defenders away from the younger guys?

Like a genius. Coaches get a lot of credit when fringe players become suddenly successful.

The fact is, it's never going to happen. As much as we love Moosey, he's gone. We can blame Moose, we can blame poor management of him, but at the end of the day it doesn't make a difference.

I've told Mum this is her chance to pick up the next Simon Black and sponsor him right from the get-go. She didn't see it the same way I did.

There are leaps of logic going on. For all that people like about him, there are a lot of valid reasons not to pick Lisle. Many are simpler than a complicated web of vanity and deceit. For me, it's that I don't think he is very good at the role we need him for, or very promising at any other role.

Nevertheless, Lisle supporters could well be vindicated when another club picks him up and starts him at FF in game one next year. I look forward to seeing who that is.

Also, for what it's worth, Leppa has demonstrated that he can change his mind on a player (see: Goose).

This! Close would have felt very lost without Sauce pinning down our forward structure. Sauce needs to play and he needs to play up forward to allow MCstay and Close to operate as a second and third.

I don't really care for Harwoods kicking efficiency against Melbourne where you chip kick 25 times up the field, he has been incredibly frustrating IMO, he looks like he is taking his spot for granted out there, some of the mistakes last week were inexcusable. I am not calling for him to be de-listed, just to sit one out and get that confidence back in his decision making, because when he is feeling it, he is a huge asset.

Another one for me, simply for the 'need for a rest' factor, is Lewey Taylor, looked cooked on the weekend.

Robbo was a level below, but I agree there's no better place to find touch than another run in the seniors.

Freeman has had a taste, but he is not ready, may as well give Lisle one last look at it.

I reckon Harwood is the only player that "needs" to be dropped. Who can play that role for us with cutler and Golby injured?

You have some very... interesting theories.

Developing player who was ordinary in a team beaten by 105. Leppa will back Harwood and so he should.

Who would you bring in for Merrett? You can not honestly say you would give Lisle a game ahead of him

Jordan Bourke I would.

It is continuously spouted that we need to get games into our younger guys, so why not get games into a kid that has shown form in the reserves at the expense of a guy that has clearly shown nothing all year.

When a team gets thoroughly pantsed like we were on the weekend almost no-one is going to look good and when you're chasing as much as we were players (especially young players) are going to look very tired because they simply aren't getting the ball and having to do a lot of defensive chasing. I don't see the benefit in dropping Robbo and Freeman after one game in. To get up to AFL speed you need a good few weeks when you're a young player. The last few years Voss was widely derided for doing this, but all of a sudden people are all for it? We have been much less reactionary this season at the selection table which I think has been mostly a good thing.

For mine I would like to see Lester or ZOB in this week as I think we need a bit more midfield spread. However I'm not 100% sure who I would leave out. With a performance like that its hard to pinpoint one player who was a lot worse than another. I'm not totally against Merrett getting a demotion as he's one that fluctuates back and forth for me. On one hand I like that he takes away the main defender off close and freeman, however some of his positioning and execution in the forward line leaves a lot to be desired. I tend to lean towards keeping him in mainly because I think the structure of our fwd line looks a bit better as a whole when he's there rather then because of his individual performances. His position becomes more under question when Leuey is back ready to play which I'm not sure he is quite yet, another week perhaps.

Bourke has been playing down back for almost the entire year. I'm a bit unsure how he comes into discussions about replacing Merrett? Unless we're assuming that Clarke is unfit and there's a spot down back? In which case I'm not totally against it as I'd like to get a look at him at senior level. However I'd still say Rog is up forward then unless you think we bring in Lisle for him up there.

Eerily similar to how wrong Leppa and the match committee were in regards to Goose Maguire when they left him languishing in the reserves for the first part of the season for no real reason. No doubt they're still feeling pretty red faced over that ridiculous decision.

They should probably all resign in shame.
