Changes v Collingwood

Story of his career isn't it?

Either that calf injury is fake, and he's just dropped because they can't fit him in the side.

Or he's actually injured, which is worse, and really is the story of his career as you say.

Either way i'm starting to think he won't be on our list in 2020.

Assuming Matt Allen doesn’t get the late call up, he will become the longest serving Eagles player without a debut - hat tip to the departed Miguel Sanchez for the stat.

I love the "give them a rest" comments... as if during the game they'll be sleeping in bed regaining lost energy or something.

I agree rest Ryan for this one, looking like he is out of petrol tickets.
He did look rooted in 2nd half last week. Hopefully it was from an earlier hit in the game and he's fine now. He better have practiced goal kicking this week

I have not seen him play half back and given we play a team defense, I doubt whether he would fit in.

He was shifted into defence in Round 22 last year against Melbourne after Darling got injured in the first two minutes and McGovern went forward.

Did what was necessary but wouldn't say that he looked overly confident down there.

He's a natural hybrid mid-forward, which unfortunately is part of his problem, as we tend to prefer smalls to be specialists.

He looked alright IMO. Fremantle sent every player on the field to tag him out of the game which is why he went quiet.

Win this week and we could be two games clear in second spot. We're not resting guys.

Or do people think we're so much better than Collingwood, who are 1 game behind us, that it's a good time to chill out and start rotating guys out of the side? What are the odds that if we did that and lost, the same turkeys would be the ones having an aneurysm in the game day thread?

Nah that's cool, we lost and dropped out of the top 2 but at least we're well rested.

Simpson was specifically asked about Ryan looking sore in his press conference. Said he was fine and went on to complement him on his work rate saying it wasn’t something they expected from him when he was drafted

Ryan has had an excellent season in every facet but his goal kicking. Score involvements, pressure, distance covered, repeat efforts. It's all there.

He's had 44 shots on goal for 15.13 and 16 on the full/short/whatever.

I honestly believe he'd be in AA contention if he had cleaned up a bit. 44 shots on goal is massive for a second year player in a difficult position.

Cole has been killing it at the reserves. He’s averaging 32 touches, 11 r50’s, 13 I50’s, 16 marks and 750m gained.

I truly believe that he will make our backline great again.

Seriously? That's remarkable.

I know it's not like for like, but I love how Cole and Masten go from averaging 10-20 touches at AFL level and then blow up in the WAFL, whereas Venners goes from 6 disposals at league to 8 in the WAFL.

Some players just cannot find the footy.

Yeah he’s been so much better than I thought he’d be. Surely he recaptures his WAFL goalkicking eventually

Poor Arch :( Hopefully he gets another chance in the coming weeks... will be tough though. Hoping we keep him on for another year also, but yes, he may be in trouble contract wise 😢

Good to see JK back and I think Tom Cole is ready to fire up and keep his spot in the firsts! Need all hands on deck.

Isn't it amazing how far we've come in a couple of years? Ah Chee would've been a walk up starter in that 2015-2017 side. We've gone from playing all the mids to recruiting some very good smalls and prefering team balance.

Simmo should be admired for saying he wanted small forwards pre draft then letting his team get some. I wonder if he knew that was the missing piece from his time at the Hawks and watching what Tigers were doing.

Yep, there's just class across every line, any which way, some of it has been unexpected or unknown quantity on arrival-Ryan, Rioli, Cameron...some have been an unexpected turnaround or improvement to varying degrees - Sheed, Redden, Hutch, Duggan, Cole, Hickey, even Nelson now and dare I say Masten, possibly AhChee. Shep said the players have all bought into Simmo's plan, resulting in a real team unity, which is obvious to see.

On M.Punt I think, in their top 50, the team best represented were Eagles with 9 players!
Next was (surprise?) Brisbane with 6 players. Cats+Giants 5 players. Pies with 2 players.
Be interesting to see how the 6-6-6 and Nicnat pan out, or opens up?
Just hope he makes it through okay to the end of season.(looks a bit heavy?)
Brisbane are coming up on the outside like the smokies-reckon current Eagles could do them if we met again!

Yeah and he's improved his speed as well. He broke the club 100m record with 9.58 seconds #KingCole.
