We've done our best a couple of times though, we let Carlton and Port right back into their respective games. Agree with you on the midfielders, I don't think it helps have so many slow ones in the team at once either, by the time it gets to the end of the game they're just about running in slow motion.

At times it staggers me that taking into consideration how below par we have played most of the year, that we are still sitting in the 8. Taking into account the last 3 games are going to be tough, is there any possibility we could slip out of the 8?

They can play in other roles and do, but they are being wasted there and that accounts for their lower impact where as Priddis cannot play other roles. You cant bag a player for not dominating in a role he's never played, particularly when he goes down to a lower level and is played in his normal role and then dominates again.
The problem is we have club favourites like Masto and Priddis who are protected and therefore we dont always get to see what the youth can do when played in the roles they were recruited for. I can guarantee you we will not win a premiership with Priddis.

In the time they've spent in the middle, none of Redden, Yeo, Hutchings, Duggan etc. have performed well enough to stay there. In games they will get chances, and if they perform they will retain that spot.

Port are 3 games and a big chunk of percentage behind us so even if they win their last 6 remaining games we'd need to win just 2 of our final 6 to retain our spot so it's unlikely we'll miss finals.

Hopefully we are going to see a more authorative and demanding head coach over the coming weeks. He looked sour af after the siren against Carlton so hopefully he is going to take the kid gloves off with the group and mark some cards.

Really don't like this sentiment. You made our defense work without EMac and Brown last year but now you're too afraid to make a proactive move because you don't think the side will be able to cope with one change?

Fair enough if you think he is a better defender than forward, but if you want to move him forward but don't have faith in our other three KPDs, then something ain't right

His point was (he's stated it a couple of times) McGovern is our best player at the moment. He's too valuable down back to move.

Nah I think we'll have a big enough buffer by then, the top 8 is pretty much set I think

Its true that some great mids dont win flags and some do, but you need a good midfield leader & group to win a premiership and we do not have one. Our current midfield leader is Priddis, and he's not up to it. We made a GF on the back of a defensive unit gameplan that caught people unawares and some fixturing that helped us towards the end of the season. Most realistic supporters knew we over-achieved last year.

Priddis has not been one of our best this year, he's been below his best (last year was probably his best year due to the way he used the footy) and he's been deplorable at times. He gets counted as one of our best by journos and fans who look at how many times he touched the ball, but not what he does with it. The game has gone up another notch speed wise and he's not able to go with it.
These other midfielders have all been playing mainly on the flank to leave Priddis in at the centre bounce as much as possible, because he cant play anywhere else. When they do come in to the centre, theyre playing to a game plan that revolves around the ball being tapped straight down to Priddis, because if we dont, he is useless as his opponent just runs off him and he's out of the play. The games we have played without him, have been where our midfield has looked its most dynamic, despite being a small sample of games its still relevant. Hutchings has been down on form a bit this year since he was injured, but he's also been playing some strange roles, half flank, half tagger and then a few small stints in the middle. Redden hasnt done much, Nelson looked good in the game he got to play in the middle but was then dropped. Duggan was building as well and was dropped. Priddis needs to go and we need to bring in Nelson, Duggan and Sheed and start giving them games through the centre. Drop Redden and McGinnity as well and then drop any underperforming players for those in form in the WAFL as it should always be. Keeping people in on past reputation does us no good. I'm sure you'll disagree and we'll keep playing the same guys in the same positions, hoping for a miracle to occur and something different to happen which is the definition of insanity.

The Eagles will have to monitor a few sore bodies on a six-day break. Eric Mackenzie is ready to return but Adam Simpson has to find a spot for him.Scott Lycett may need more support this week against Max Gawn and Jonathan Giles pressed his case with 30 hit-outs and three goals in the WAFL. Lewis Jetta hasn't been ruled out of an immediate return if required but he's more likely to stay at East Perth. Jackson Nelson remains ready to step in at half-back when needed. Malcolm Karpany has been quietly putting together some good form up forward for East Perth and did his chances of a debut no harm with 19 touches and a goal. Corey Adamson has also been putting together some really good performances in the WAFL but it is unlikely he would be called up. Dom Sheed and Liam Duggan had quiet days in the WAFL but Sheed's fitness is now at a level where Simpson would be prepared to play him. - Alex Malcolm

FWIW I agree with him.

He certainly is our best player at the moment but I would like to think that he could rejig things and make it work if he wanted him forward. But pretty obvious that he sees more value in him playing back than forward.

I know this wont happen but it would be awesome to see barrass line up on hogan. Young defender on the best young forward. I think barrass is the one that will take the number one forward once emac and the rest move on. So it wont be a bad idea to play barrass on the oppositions best forward time to time. Then we bring in emac for schofield.

I dont know if this is true but in the wafl tv cast they mentioned the only reason emac was dropped was because of his offensive game. Apparently the want emac to get used to winning the ball and provide rebound out of defence.

Adamson really has 2 more cracks. Cant see him debuting in the last 3 games of the season unless we have a lot of injuries.

Think Emac has to come back in now, needs to be ready for the finals. I'd personally drop Schoey or try Gov in Brown's role. Brown is a defender only IMO.

Would like to see Nelson back in for McGinnity also, but Sheed seems most likely as like Emac, we need him in for the finals.

Did a few ladder scenarios, as long as we beat Melbourne this week and Freo in three weeks, we should still finish 7th or 8th, even if Port, Collingwood or the Saints get on a winning run and we dont win another game from then on. But we're not going to win a final if that happens tho.
