Only 6 games as sub in 2011, holding his spot after rd 8. In the games where he wasn't started as the sub (11), he averaged 22 disposals including a particularly good stretch of form from rd 17 - 21. He wasn't disgraced during the prelim, finishing with 23 touches. He did had the benefit of those early sub games, but it shows these kids can come in and make a difference (given that not every rookie is as skilled as Gaff).Actually we played him as the sub in the vast majority of his early games. And made a prelim that year.
I think we might be at a tipping point late in the season where a couple of skilled youngsters might be an improvement on the limitations that all of Redden, Hutchings & PMac place on our setup; our midfield has such a reliance on too few, and the low numbers these mature players are generating is really hurting our linkup and run.
I know you're just arguing against giving everyone a debut, and I agree, but we do need to test our depth yet again. Even more important with Nic hopefully returning in the next few weeks that we find our best line-up.
I'd like to see Sheed back for Redden if he's deemed fit (hard to tell if we were wrapping him in cotton wool during that bath on Saturday, or if he'd pulled up sore), Giles to take over from Brown, and Nelson for Hutchings. Hopefully, that leaves us with Karpany and Adamson banging the door down, and sees Hutch and Redden out to turn it around.
