Having had Hernia surgery........
I was just having a juvenile crack at you posting it twiceWell Hernia repair which was keyhole surgery.
Bit harsh. He has had 2 operartions since his arrival. One on his groin and the other is a hernia. Pretty sure you cant lift anything for weeks after that one. As a result he has missed all of our preseason. So his endurance and strength (which are his assets) would be no where near what he would want it to be. MC rushed him into the side and have admitted to the error. He should have atleast spend more time building his fitness and strength and also should have spend most this year at WAFL.Simmo playing him on a forward flanlh doesnt help his case either. I normally have really low expectations for players who have missed most/all of preseason as its more than likely their going to be crap or average at best. Thats why im gonna expect the worst out of sheed.

So I read as that they found it hard to recover his keys from the surgery.I was just having a juvenile crack at you posting it twice
And my dad did have keyhole surgery for a hernai and they aren't easy to recover from

Recruitment has been weak at the Eagles since mid 2000s
Very excited by McGovern, Barass, Wellingham, Shepperd, Lycett, Shuey, Gaff, Duggan(right attitude), Sheed....for mine...this is the grp in the team that can deliver on the big stage going forwards.
Jetta on the other hand... I just don't know wtf is going on there. Some called it that he was a bit of front running campaigner, I didn't buy into it. I figured we don't need all the mids in there getting grubby, and God knows we could use some good ball users going forward. He seemed perfect. Gaff on one wing, Jetta on the other.. Drooling, I was. Hasn't worked out..... Yet (I continue to hold out hope). *sighs*
McGovern 2014 ring a bell?Missing a preseason will do that.
From watching the games he has been playing he gets ignored a fair bit by his teammates. The Geelong game earlier in the year in the first quarter alone he was tearing up on the outside and was burnt by turnovers going forward. Then he is out of position, doesn't get a possession and people ask what he is doing.
The last game he played Lecras alone burnt him on 3 occasions IIRC.
I also think as others have pointed out is that Gaff seems to be the scoot past handball option out the side. Jetta probably needs to do a bit more of what Gaff is doing but I think they are polar opposites. Gaff is a run run run rinse repeat. Jetta is an all out on 1 play at pace kind of guy.
I don't think he has a problem, I think his game looks a lot like Josh Hill's in the way they play that people think they don't care. But its just how they come across and isn't a true reflection of them. He does rely on other to get him going but is something our team needs pace and skill.
gov didnt have an injury. He just had too many frothies and pies over the break. His career was on the line after being on the list for 4 years without a debut and had to prove him self.McGovern 2014 ring a bell?
Almost every year Nic's played?
I have been on this programme for some time and you do struggleGo

Are you Jack Redden?Go

NN is still usefull even when he isnt fit. His ruckwork even at 70% fit is better than any ruck in the comp.

Yeah but it cannot be compared with a long term injury. With GOv situation he never missed training.I have been on this programme for some time and you do struggle
gov was playing for his AFL career tho. when a player has no preseason because of injury, it generally means that they will have minimal impact during the season. NN went from one of the best ruckmen in 2012 to him getting trashed by the media every week for 2 years. I was pissed off by reddens form as well but im more pissed off at the MR and our doctors now. I was speaking to a bloke yesterday who just had the same surgery and he had to take 5 weeks off work and we was told not to lift or do any strenuous exercise for a while. He said the operation is terrible. On top of that he had has a surgery on his groin as well. He basically sat out the whole preseason and returned to training a a month and a half out of the season and started full training a few weeks before rnd 1. His fitness base would have been extremely low and strength no where near the level he needs to compete at AFL level. Simmo and the MR have conceded that they got it wrong re redden. Redden shouldn't have been rushed in and spend more time improving his fitness and strength. he should have also spent most of his year at WAFL as well. with sheed also out with injury, it meant that we were light on inside mids and hence they rushed him in too early. Because of his low fitness base, its now makes sense why his being used more on a flank these days. Are you Jack Redden?
Gov also had never played AFL footy. Redden has played 120+ games.
Injuries stop you from playing/training.
He played round 1 so he trained enough to play. That was 17 weeks ago.
Gov had an excuse but played real good footy in a team that finished 9th.
Redden has no excuses.
This doesn't get bought up enough in the Jetta argument. Whilst I do think he could try harder and his kicking is a little off, we recruited him because we want the ball in his hands to run and create. We should be looking to get it to him so he can run and take the game on, but as you said I've seen players burn him and when they should give him the cheapy because it makes us better. From watching the games he has been playing he gets ignored a fair bit by his teammates. The Geelong game earlier in the year in the first quarter alone he was tearing up on the outside and was burnt by turnovers going forward. From what I've seen of Jetta, it's his work-rate off the ball that is disappointing to me. I'd be very happy with Jetta having a dozen damaging possessions per game, and I'm not expecting him to be a contested possession beast. But it's his work rate off the ball that looks very poor to me. Just far too much time standing stagnant rather than moving to space or attempting to be a threat to draw a defender. I'd be surprised if this is not what the MC are looking at.
wellingham is elite
Wellingham can turn a game
Yeah Masten seems to be our only player who can play that HFF role...
The biggest Jetta 'IGNORING' like the other chaps are saying, is done when our dopey mids Priddis, Gaff and Hutch go the bomb kick in hope to no one. Which they have been doing all year. But do they lose their spots for it? Well only Hutch does and he's the least worst bomber. He's standing stagnant because some egghead has probably bombed the ball further afield to the opposition. Jeeezus and if he's not a threat to defenders then what the hell is Priddis then?
Apparently, if you listen to Simmo today in his press conference its "form" why Hutch (and Ginner) were dropped. Seems it's only numbers which matter at the selection table and count as "form? Cause that's why Hutch is gone now I presume?
Not getting enough numbers was ironically why Jetta copped it too right? He can't get the beloved numbers if no one is giving the ball to him. Although, Jetta doesn't do himself any favours (particularly with fans) with his demeanor and a couple half arse 1% things he's messed up. His kicking has been killer and most all of his involvements have been very good though. Just not enough of them.... why might that be I wonder?
It's been a similar rigged assessment and judgement for Redden as well. He can't get all these wonderful stats everyone wants because ironically there's the golden bomber boy cemented in the spot where he could get the those precious numbers.
No. The specific instances that were most stark in my mind were when we where bringing the ball out of the 50m zone and then switching play. Just pure work rate to run from one side of the field to the other. Jetta stood out significantly by how much he just camped on a flank off the ball and didn't work one way or the other to create space.
But regardless, work rate is about running hard for the good of the team, not just when it's about to get you a possession. Running to space or creating a secondary lead or working back to allow a team-mate to run into space. If Jetta stops because a ball has been bombed over his head, that would count as poor work rate to me.
I think it would be pretty naïve to assume that the match committee's assessment is based on just looking at the stats at the end of the game. I believe they even have film sessions these days.

ahuh I can think of those instances you talk of actually.
I bloody hope they do watch tape and video reviews because what is this then? I spose this must be good "form" then??
special note : where Jetta is at 0.53 and 1:00 and 1:08 min marks
happy to supply them with video too!
You don't need to bring that argument in this thread, thanks.
