Few sore boys. What do we reckon about next week?

I’ll go - In: Kiddy and Dev (Prior or Ah Chee sub) for Bailey (inj) & Berry (inj).

Not sure we will want to play the 2 rucks at Marvel with the 3 talls so Fort might miss again (even though I’d prefer him over Oscar). If he comes out and Ah Chee gets through the ressies he’d be an option.

Joyce brings something different to Payne and Andrews. Has better pace and ground coverage, couple of kicks early in the game were flat sizzlers, by third quarter he was the only tall who turned around to see if he can impact an earlier contest before ball enters D50 than wait for a deep kick to the goal square to fist it through. I think he has the pace/tank to play on medium forwards too like Payne. We need to keep playing him and settle the defense.

I agree about Joyce needing to stay in the side, our defensive structure looks better with him in there. He probably will stay given the dogs play 15 tall forwards.

Just going from what I can see on TV, I think Linc plays an important role as the only forward we have that is defensive minded. I thought his pressure and defensive running was important last night.

Wilmot was pretty good too yesterday. Kept running back, kept bobbing up to intercept a forward surge etc. It felt like he played that wing role really well yesterday and kept providing outlet kick options.

Linc pretty ordinary for a while now.

I'd like to see Lohmann get a run.

maybe Linc could be "managed" for a game.

Say a player gets 25 touches. That's a pretty good game.

Excluding shots on goal, assume the average posession time is five seconds. Heck, make total possession time for 25 touches five minutes. Over about two hours of playing time.

That leaves 1 hr and 55 minutes.

What a player does in their five minutes is important but what they do in the other 1 hr 55 is critical and it's where we fall off in our crap games. It's the difference between lights on and lights off (that's how I'm going to refer to good and bad games from now on).

Linc, and other senior players, might be workman like for their five minutes of possession but their foot smarts mean they are contributing for 1 hr 55.

Newbies can look great during patches of the five minutes, but generally have a lot to learn about the other 1 hr 55. They need a good, experienced structure around them where senior players that can help them with positioning etc..

Right now we need the new experienced players to gel without the added load of managing to many rookies.

Linc stays for me.

If Bailey is injured, I would like to see Ah Chee come in if he is 100% ready to go. Would like to see a more defensive minded player in the wing/ half forward mix. When Bailey returns I can see him holding his spot.

With Berry it has to be Dev imho. Play the guy on the ball and give him a run of games to see if he can become what many of us hope he can (a tough, hard running, combative mid). Would love to see Rayner in there as well, but he seems set for half back and it would be harsh to throw him in there after not preparing for that role.

I’d do the Lohmann McCarthy swap when we’ve got less outs
Maybe when we have a best 22 midway through the season and we can tweak a player here or there
Yeah not bad thinking and probably correct. I just think Lohmann provides something when he plays and Linc hasn’t quite been doing that for a while.

Kiddy for Berry, Rayner moving higher up the ground.
Dev for Bailey.
Lohmann for McCarthy.
I'd give Kiddy one more week just to be sure. Dev for Berry - Dev to play inside and McCluggage to the wing.

For Bailey I might bring Answerth or Ah Chee in if fit n ready to tag Caleb Daniel. We need plans to blunt opposition weapons so get one of these two to play proper shut-down role against their playmaker.

Kai’s been getting fewer touches in the reserves than what Linc is getting in the firsts.
I feel if you want to drop Linc because of lack of consistency and disappearing in games you'll be doubling down with that issue if you're bringing in Kai to replace him at this stage of his career.

Also if you want to drop a small forward the only reason is to look for more defensive pressure and defensive run. I don't think that is Kai's game either putting aside consistency issues etc.
