Good solid effort tonight. Anyone know how Palmer will pull up?

Outs : Thornton, Palmer ( if injured )

Ins : Broughton ( if Fit) otherwise DeBoer, Clarke.

He was waiting at the interchange gates to come back on in the last but the siren sounded whilst he was there, didn't have a limp as he walked off, ABC radio boundary-rider guy said it's not devastating (i.e it's not an ACL).

I thought Thornton was surprisingly adequate today. Murphy was ordinary though. He simply has to take those marks and kick those goals as a FF. While I'm all for giving him another shot, Campbell's got more grunt in him and the Eagles young backs are fairly strong.

Out: Murphy
In: Campbell.

Fair go, he was playing on Craig Bolton, one of the best defenders in the league, which is quite a step up from his WAFL opponent. Leave him in for a few games to settle, if Campbell's WAFL form is so good it can't be ignored then bring him in, nothing wrong with Murphy and Campbell in he same forward line.

Out: Thornton
In: Clarke

We need 2 ruckmen against Cox to counter his around-the-ground work. If Clarke doesn't come in he'll run Sandi ragged.

Not sure if this has been discussed by you guys but for much of the first half Hase was not on the ground rather doing run throughs and was in the hands of a doctor (it looked like) for quite a while there. Also had his whole leg from the knee down strapped up. Shin splints maybe?

Thornton for Clarke; bigger issue is if Hase or Palmer or both are out hurt - who do we bring in?? Maybe Broughton and DeBoer if they are fit, but if they aren't fit ?????

Copped a corky in his calf in an awkward tackle by Kirk I think it was.
Ahh that explains it. Saw a funny thing with him (not sure if anyone else saw this again) but Palmer was coming off the ground and he was very slow in the last 5m to do this. Hasleby reacted way too early and he knew it so with his momentum of wanting to go on the ground he was literally falling over the yellow line that signals the interchange box. He would have fallen over onto the ground before Palmer was off it and cost Freo a free kick in the process but the bloke running the interchanges grabs the back of his jumper and pulls him back in. Was extremely well done by him and funny to watch.

Agree here, but it does depend on how Palmer and Haze pull up.

Happy with Thornton's game, so he gets a tick.

Murphy, grrrrrrrrrrr, extract the digit son !!!!. But after saying that, if we don't have an adequate replacement, I'll give him another chance.

As for the ruck, will the Eagles go with only one recognised ruckman ?, if so do we really need to rush in another ruckman ?. Johnno did well as a backup, but then I am a Kep fan. To combat Cox around the ground we need to assign a player to negate him and make Cox accountable for Sandi, by Sandi being used as an attacking player. Throw the dice.

Hope Hase is fit, to me he is the lynchpin of the team, as he plays good old fashioned sensible football.

Thornton will play ... and I echo the words that he was actually not bad. Seemed to do a lot of the right things when he was at half forward as well. Maybe.....yes just *maybe* he needed a couple of games to get back into the rhythm....normally he wouldnt play this early on in the year.

Anyways, looking forward to next weekend.

Thornton did a couple of good things in the forward line, but game as a whole was weak, he wasn't competitive in most contests he was involved in. I'd rather Broughton if fit.

Murphy has a pea heart - I know he played on one of the better key backmen going around, but he still had about 3 clear marks inside 50 that he should have taken and only a small amount of physical pressure made him drop them. Holding those is the difference between a serviceable forward and a crap one. I've been on Campbell's side for a couple of years, and rather see him play. But I think we need to play one of them. If that's Murphy, then so be it.

I think Johnno did well enough in the ruck to show that we don't need to play another ruckman. While i'd like to see Clarke have a run, I doubt he'd have much impact and i'd rather play him against a team that doesn't have such a dominant ruckman - eg. Collingwood or Richmond.

Agree that Thornton has earned another game.

Maybe Harves should be thinking about putting him on Wirrpanda again. Apparently, he's been getting a lot of the ball coming out of the back line the last couple of games and Thornton has a history of shutting that down.

Did Palmer come back on the ground after getting injured?

Watson off game day just mentioned his knee, then said 'It wasn't serious and he came back onto the ground'. I saw him walking along the boundary afterwards, but I don't remember him playing after that.

Think he was on the boundary line ready to come on, but the siren sounded

Thorton to play that defensive roll against Wirra again :thumbsu:

Only changes I can see will be because of injury.

i wouldnt make any changes, thornton played well, for some reason though i think we should bring deboer in though, he hasnt set the world alight at the tigers but i reckon in the heat of a derby he would play well, not sure who he would come in for assuming palmer and hasleby play

In: Campbell
Out: Murphy

In my opinion, that change has to happen. The only other changes would be through injury. If Palmer is injured I would bring in DeBoer, and if Hasleby doesn't pull up I'd bring in Broughton.

Is Campbell match fit yet? Has he done anything at WAFL level this season?
