you’re completely misrepresenting the problem with Sam grays selections when applying them to backing in Farrell (who’s just reached 24 games)
gray was an undersized mid shoehorned into a small forward role. That he snagged goals through workrate and nous didn’t make up for the problematic Structure issues it created, and the lack of understanding of the game that his selection in that position demonstrated from our coaching group.
if we were playing 2 key forwards close to goal, kicking it to them and Sam gray was putting up his exact same numbers while we were winning games exactly zero (reasonable) people would have had an issue with his selection.
1. we are not playing Farrell out of position. He is not hurting our structure.
2. Farrell getting game #2 for the season (and 24 for his career. You can’t call a gold pass 10 seconds into the season.
3. we are winning games
4. Farrell has improved his workrate and competitiveness
5. posters have already attested we’ve played Farrell on the quiet wing where little of the play went through
I’m happy to back the kid in and give him more games. If the coaches decided to give his spot to another player who’s pushed really hard then that is also good.
