Serious question regarding people questioning the lack of Eddy in the side. Why?

He is a 27 year old rookie who was picked up as purely a break glass player. He converts yes, however he is severely lacking a tank and even SANFL defenders run off him and create. In a defensive minded team where the head coach has openly said on more than one occasion, 'you don't defend, you don't play, why then are people begging for him to be in.

Our entire game plan hinges on forward line pressure and repeat entries. All it takes is a weak link for it to fall over.

Someone mentioned it elsewhere, I think Kern doesn't want Eddy and Robbie in the same forward line. You can afford to carry 1 slowish mid/small player in there, but not two. Before the season I said he was break glass emergency, then I was all for him to play. Now I don't think we'll see him unless Dixon or Robbie are out.

As for Toumpas... wow the hate is amazing. It was his first game this season and he was probably nervous as ****. He still got a lot of the ball and his confidence will be better for the run. Lade gave him a good wrap in a presser earlier in the week. Let's hope the coaches have spoke to him and he will take the game on more this week.

Over the last 4 years we've carried players for a hell of a lot worse performances than that and no one blinked an eye.

That's all well and good but it didn't stop Ken from keeping Young in the side when he wasn't holding his own defensively. 1 tackle vs. Geelong.

Consistency in selections is what people are after.

Glad that Ken has lost patience with Young again - he needs a good block in the SANFL.

Not the biggest Toump fan but let's hope he can resurrect his career with a few good games in a row.

I'm with you. Young has had a fair chance, we need to see if Toump can make it and dropping him after one game proves nothing.

Because we currently only have one genuine forward, and 5 midfielders plonked up forward. As a result, we have a poor goals/i50 ratio. If we had another actual genuine forward up there, maybe we'd kick more goals from our i50 entries.

Not really a career to resurrect, one to actually start. tribey's one line dissing of Toumpas's Melbourne career was apt.
But Toumpas earnt his spot for last week and I have no issues with him getting this game.
IMO promotion from the SANFL is being given transparently based on position needed and SANFL effectiveness and I can live with that.
 
I'll admit when I saw that Toumpas held his spot my first thought was 'Ken be trolling'.

If all we expect is that he gets a bunch of uncontested and useless touches, he will hold his spot forever.

Shouldn't be in the team, but whatever, we already know the coaches aren't smart. If he keeps Amon out next week it becomes a problem.

Seems unfathomable that with 40+ healthy players to choose from that Toumpas gets a run, especially on the quick deck at Etihad.

I have no doubt he will be serviceable and play his role, but with a healthy list you should have to be more than serviceable...

Reckon Johnson's pace could've been handy this week.

I think alot of you are incredibly harsh on Toumpas. Sure, he is no world beater and has his flaws, but he bloody gets a lot of the ball. If he can improve is his use, I dont see a problem with him in the team. His inclusion suggests Chad plays a bit more forward.
 
I think "the quick deck" is a little bit overstated.

Exactly. Win the contested ball (which we should) create turnovers (which we should) and maintain possession and the speed that the balls hits the ground has no effect.

We don't need 22 Matt Whites out there.
