Prediction Changes v Essendon

I really want Toumpas to be a good player. Would be a huge bonus for our list.
I don't see it happening, but given he cost basically nothing in a trade, it would be a bonus. I wouldn't have picked him last week, but now he's in, a run of 3 or 4 games to establish whether he's worth another year on a minimum contract (or rookie listing) makes sense. Toumpas is a confidence player and with Essendon and Brisbane as our next two opponents, if he can't fire now, he's never going to.

Someone mentioned it elsewhere, I think Kern doesn't want Eddy and Robbie in the same forward line. You can afford to carry 1 slowish mid/small player in there, but not two.
Which also comes down to Robbie's injury. If it was certain we got 'good Robbie' every week, it'd be easier for Ken to slot in Eddy (or Marshall), but we don't know until the match is going how he's going to be. This week and next should have been the time to rest Robbie further.

We didn't really have a ruckman the coaches were willing to replace him with.

Technically we replaced Ryder with Trengove because that was the ruckman the coaches were willing to replace him with by shuffling the team around, and replaced Trengove the tall forward with White, because according to you - the coaches value the exact same structure week in and out and we can't ever play any players in more than one position. Turn it up.

Stop being angry Toumpas got picked over some other player, he deserved to retain his spot.

I'm not angry toumpas got picked. I'm angry that you use illogical arguments to defend it.

Give us some more insight into the mind of a mental patient please...

If toumpas and drew were both injured this week, who would you play on the wing instead?

The next player who can play wing behind Drew. If push comes to shove I'm sure they will upset the midfield setup and dump an Ebert onto it for a few weeks.

I think we worry too much over 1 selection like Toumpas. What keeps going through my head is what if Ryder is down for a few weeks, someone we cannot cover. We have not given games to another ruckman like Frampton for insurance, no Ryder and kiss 2017 goodbye.

Dixon is another player that is crucial for us and we haven't played Howard at senior level this year.
Players like Amon can be covered easily and as long as we bring our tough defensive game we should be ok. Ryder and Dixon are the ones that we cannot afford to lose.

so we fall into a screaming heap if one or to of them go out of the side, **** we must have the thinnest list ever.

No not the thinnest list but imo Frampton should have had some game time, at least as a forward and short stints in the ruck rotating with Ryder. To late when the horse has bolted.

Name picked out of a hat post? Frampton's actually making less of a case for a game this year than since we drafted him.

I like the fact that Ken is going through the list.

We know what we are going to get with Young now after the games that he's played - he'll hold the structure and do an ok job, but he's depth, nothing more. He could get traded and I wouldn't bat an eyelid because he's just not that great. A serviceable player. Deserves a spot because of that, but really shouldn't be anywhere near best 22.

On the other hand, a guy like Ah Chee, who was also on the chopping block at the start of the season, is taking his opportunity and really going for it because he knows that the recruitment of Powell-Pepper, Atley and Drew means he has to fight to stay on the list.

Now we get to see what Toumpas adds to the side. You can't drop the kid after one game where he played ok for Monfries who is also playing ok. We know what we are going to get with Angus. If he plays, it means that one of Ebert/Ah Chee/Powell-Pepper/Boak gets pushed out to a wing. Unless Gus plays wing - which he's been doing in the SANFL (and shows how Ken wants to play him).

For mine, Angus is a man marking defensive forward. He's the guy we will play in finals on a Shaw, or a Laird, or a Mackie - the guy who targets one player in defence and shuts him down while scoring himself. But the H&A system we are playing doesn't require that level of defensive pressure - and we certainly don't need it against Essendon who don't really have a dedicated outlet out of defence.

I reckon who Ken really wants to bring in is Drew - but he's slated for Brisbane. Boot Byrne-Jones (who has really done nothing this year), shift Pittard back, push Toumpas to half back (if he does okay against Essendon - if not, he can come out and DBJ can stay) and then put Drew on the wing.

Good times, good times.

I am not saying he should be picked on form but he could learn from one of the best in Ryder. Well crossed fingers Ryder stays fit until seasons end because if not and Lobbe replaces him this board will disintegrate at light speed.

That's what training several times a week is for. If Frampton's picked he's not going to ruck against Ryder. In training he no doubt is.

AhChee has actually taken Boak's spot in the midfield.
Boak was taken out of the midfield long before Ah Chee come in. Ebert has come on as an inside mid this year too. And SPP has also taken a spot. Ah Chee came in for Wingard, so will be interesting to see what positions these two play worth Wingard back. Ah Chee is showing some elite signs in there ... Very exciting!

Some serious shit posting going on atm. Jimmy deserves to be in the side. He played well last week when he got his chance. Started shaky but improved over time. Yes, he made some chip kicks last week as thats part of our game plan. For those implying he can't kick....

Admittedly, any of us could have kicked to Charlie Dixon one on one against Troy Chaplane and the result would have been the same.

The point i am trying to make is if Ryder gets injured during a game we are in trouble, he is the reason our midfield are doing well atm and Trengove try as he may will not get the ball down to our mids, we cannot afford this during a final.

In the three Alberton games I have seen this year Wild Billy has been beaten in the ruck each time, and by some very average players, which could unfortunately suggest he won't improve enough to make it in that role in the AFL.

I believe he also had his colours lowered by Bass last weekend as well.
Bass was on the Power rookie list about 5 years ago, and never looked a chance to make it at the next level.

I would like to see how Billy would go as a permanent kpp, but with the Maggies over abundance of talls that is unlikely to happen this season.

I agree with you mate. I just think Toumpas is nowhere near as bad as so many seem to think. Sure, he is not fantastic, but i think he has earnt his spot and was decent last week.

Why not play someone who realistically has a future, though?

That's what bothers me. Not Toumpas in the side. But Wingard going back to the forward line when he had become such a weapon in the midfield.

Could be arch going forward more though
He'll still likely rotate in the midfield, coming back from a calf injury the club is probably a bit more cautious in how much midfield time he gets would expect 70/30 forward-mid.
