From the sounds of it, if we don't make finals then he's out for the year. Granted that is only three weeks but it's highly unlikely he'll be back before the end of the regular season.

Still can't fathom the level of criticism directed at Hayes.

He had an excellent debut albeit in a losing team, followed by few reasonably solid games before running out of steam/confidence against Geelong at the Cattery.

Hope he comes back with renewed confidence and surprises some of his critics.

The team selections are fine. We lose two good players unfortunately, but absolutely no excuses to lose to an Essendon team ravaged by injury.

We lose and season over. That should be enough motivation for every player to lift their game. Expect Bont to get a bit of attention off the ball, so I'm expecting big games from Hunter, Dunkley and Macrae.

I’m not really a fan of Hayes, as I think he just offers redundancy, but I recall Hayes producing a few really good inside 50s. If he can do that this week he will add something.

That must be it. He can certainly cover ground and I hope he does well, I have little faith that his disposal under pressure is good enough to play a running role in AFL football. Perhaps that will come with time and experience.

If anyone questions why we would be interested in running types like Isaac Smith or Jack Martin, this is exhibit A.
