We may drop a tall for a small against the bulldogs purely for structure reasons. The dogs forward line is extremely mobile and conversely collingwoods small forwards and runners gave their backline fits. Lake and Williams had no problems shutting down their tall forwards.

There could be only one change i would consider and that would be Bellchambers in if he plays ok today but he would have to lift a lot on recent weeks.

As far as the smalls go the mix is right. Winderlich, Lonergan and Reimers proved that all could easily fill Monfries forward spot but we also had the option to use them in other areas which we don't have with Monfries. If they play as well in a combo over the next couple weeks then Gus may stryggle to get his spot back when he is ready.

Realisticly i would be going for no change.

no changes.

I really think though Reimers might be in the gun in 2 weeks time when Monfries is fit, he really needs to lift.

Yeah he took a couple of ripper marks today but some of his decision making can be terrible.

Should've kicked 3 goals and 99% of the time makes things happen when he has the ball.

He's easily in our 22

Lucas? ;)

Slatts is listed in the paper having hurt his back, I'm guessing it's minor and nothing to worry about - though I hope it's not back = hammy.

Have you noticed how the Bulldogs structure their forward line.

They have Hahn and Minson who are big bodies and Welsh is their third tall forward.

Pears = Minson
Hurley = Hahn
McPhee = Welsh

Fletcher as the floating back.

I would prefer to see Pears on Hahn, Hurley on Welsh, Fletcher on Minson and McPhee floating

Its not as set as that, the dogs mix it up with Hill and Johnson leading out of the square at times.

The pies dropped dropped Brown as they had no need for the third tall defender. They went with flexability, Hurley isnt agile enough to take anything less than a tall. An ageing Micky O lost him numerous times on saturday.

Out Hurley in NLM for me.

FWIW after having Maxwell loose man all game on Friday nite I can't see Rocket allowing it to happen again.
Will be a ripping quick, high scoring game though.

Outs : Hooker, Hurley
Ins : Bellchambers, Houli

Bellchambers to provide a bigger bodied contest against the Dogs rucks.

Houli to give us a bit more run against a small quick side. He could be a good matchup for Aker. I recall Aker tore Dyson a new one last year but Ricky's improved 10 fold since then.

McVeigh or McPhee can go to Hahn/Welsh.
Fletch to Hill or Minson.
Slatts to Johnson
Dyson/Houli to Aker.
Pears to Minson or swapping with McPhee on Welsh...... err something like that.

You forgot Myers !

can't understand why you'd give Hurley one (reasonable) game, then drop him. Sounds more like something Sheedy would do, not Knights.

No, Hurley has earned another run. Particularly if Belly comes in for Hooker.

Personally, I think it was a solid, workmanlike win; and as such, probably wasn't as "glamorous" as we've been.

However a blend of the exciting and the hard-working easily accounted for the professional swans.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

No changes unless forced by injury or suspension

Now we're REALLY starting to feel Hille's absence. A big bodied ruckman is the only change i'd make but i don't know if bellchambers should come in.

I hope Knights gives Hooker a good work-over during the preseason because if he can hold his own in the ruck while providing a solid 3rd choice tall backmen then that would be sweet.

We have slowed fown the midfield over the last 4 weeks - having brought back Prismall, Welsh, McVeigh.

Before the Sydney match, we all agreed that we could get away with a slow but tough midfield up there...but I think it is time to dial-up the pace again.

There would probably be a riot if I picked any of those midfielders above to go out, so I will just say that one of the 'semi-talls' has to go out for another speed machine.

Do you watch football !

Slattery struggles to play on marking small forwards.

McVeigh is a good match for Johnson.

I dont think that Bellchambers is needed this week.

The Bulldogs rucks Hudson and Minson are solid but not brilliant.

Hudson has a mean streak, is a good tap ruckman and good on the ground.

Ryder has the necessary attributes to match up with Hudsomn.

Minson is a Laycock type ruckman who has slowly improved his performance over the years. He is probably more dangerous up forward.

Hurley won't be dropped, if you listen to Knight's after match interview on Fox Footy.

We have enough flexibilty with our backs to ensure suitable match ups.

Fletcher can play on tall or short
Pears can play on tall or mid sized.

Pears should take johnson.
Last year in the NAB cup he played on him and did fairly well.
Althoughh he might hurt us when pears is attacking as Johnson will most likely not chase and just sit back waiting for the turnover.

I'm getting sick of your do you watch football comments. It doesn't make your argument any stronger and it's becoming quite pathetic.

Slattery has stood Johnson for the past 5 or 6 times we have played them. He's been relatively reasonable apart from a few freebies that Johnson received cherry picking.

I guess you know more than the coaching staff as they seem to pick Slattery on Johnson every time without fail.

No changes.

I think that Knights must like Hooker's mobility around the ground. I don't think he has much confidence in Bellchambers at this early stage.

I see the backline match-ups as:

Slattery - Higgins
McVeigh - Akermanis (As he did against Porpylzia, can go into the midfield as well)
Hurley - Welsh
McPhee - Murphy (if forward)/floating forward
Pears - Hahn (run off)
Fletcher - Minson (when forward)/floating forward

I like your match-ups, however you haven't mentioned who will take Johnson.

i would go with

mcveigh-johnson
slattery-higgins
pears-welsh
fletcher-hahn
hurley-minson
dempsey-aker
and in the midfield i would go
watson-boyd
lovett-picken
dyson-griffen
welsh-cooney
stanton-cross
