Then there's the fact that he is probably playing for his AFL career (assuming his card hasn't already been marked - as I thought it had). Grigg will be around for years to come. Tambling is being given a last chance to save his career, having done well when given the opportunity last week.

I suspect that's the club's thinking..

Personally, I would have gone with Grigg.

Different kinds of player. Grigg is an inside clearance machine. Tambling is an outside sea gull.

Every team needs a balance of both.

Thompson in has to be a smokescreen. If you can't run out a game on Sunday there's no way you can recover in 6 days. If this is the case i'm pretty pleased. For too long we've been gifting opposition coaches this info and it's really not necessary. (unless it's for an obvious one). Freo have to plan for him to play, so this is just less time they have to review his replacement.

His replacement had better be Grigg:mad:

Truck is blatantly being rested because there's no matchup for him. I'm pleased to see Hartigan but does he have a matchup either?

If we choose the sub from that interchange i'd go with Tambling. I Lyons is really struggling to play the full game then he's not going to build that match fitness sitting on the bench. So get him to go hard and sub him if required later. Otherwise from the squad i'd sit Dmac in the red vest.

Hmmm Danger on the flight over?

lol. Risk a fine for a late selection?

Which WA based player are we targeting for a trade that we want him to chat to?

Very very established defensive back 6 this week with games combined in brackets.

Laird (12), Hartigan (0), Brown (18)
Smith (48), Talia (48), Hendo (53)

Considering Truck has almost 50 games more experience than the entire back 6 combined, we could be in for a bit of a rough ride.

I haven't seen Hartigan play - is he agile? Are we making a (great) decision that carrying Talia/Rutten/Otten in the backline will be too slow (especially against a side without a big strong marking fwd)?

I am not too fussed with the selections this week.

We have given Grigg a taste of AFL footy.

Smack makes sense to help Jacobs with Sandi. I still think Kerridge will come in for Thommo.

In a kinda way I always feel sorry for Tambling being compared to Buddy. I wonder what the hell did they see in selecting him over Buddy.

Actually thats Richmonds problem in a nutshell, they gave up a bona fide FF for Tambling. Hmmm geez if they had Jack and Buddy in their team, sorry I digress.

Its just so too late in the year to be giving Tambling a "go" when our season is literally on the line.

The poor guys HR must hit 220 the second he looks at the ball let alone take possession. Until the guy can handle one pressure situation he may change, but I would have thought this would be ironed out in the SANFL.

How was his form in SANFL?

Interesting that they dropped silvagni meaning their two talls will be Johnson and Dawson.. I've never viewed Johnson as a true FB/CHB more of a third man which he killed us as this year. Meaning if Dawson goes with Jenkins I'm sure lynch will work Johnson over and make him accountable. Then if Mckernan goes fwd I"m not sure who they'd be able to match him up with.

Begs the question are we going in too top heavy on such a big oval OR if these 3 players play a good game and play their role could it be a massive advantage for us?

You must be trolling. Mckernan has only ever been selected as second ruck/forward. Just as he has this week. He only ever has one person in his way (Jenkins). This week they have moved Jenkins to full forward and Smack to second ruck/forward.

LJ has never ever been competing with Smack for a spot. He would be a second tall at AFL level so he is currently competing with Lynch and Porps for a spot incredible you cannot grasp this.

I would rotate Porps through the middle a bit more and play LJ.
And yet McKernan comes into the side this week, forcing LJ to sit yet another one out.

There are 3 positions available each week for tall forwards in our team. If they choose to fill one of them with a ruck/forward, then there is one less position available for a pure forward. There are still only 3 positions up for grabs, no matter which way you want to do the mixing. They don't drop a midfielder to create a ruck/forward position, they drop a forward. They're vying for one position. What part of this is so hard for you to understand?

Not much to complain about there.

Need two Rucks against Freo/Sandilands. Not too many other players in the "out" position after last week. Basically "last in, last out".

However, if Thommo plays and struggles on the big ground with his groins the selection of him ahead of Grigg or even Kerridge is questionable.
Thommo has been struggling with a groin for awhile and couldn't finish his 200th game 6 days ago. He should have had the week off and given the kid who played well last week a full match. Griggs left foot on the vast Pattersons would have come in handy.

In principle I agree with Vader.

If you arent performing at sanfl level, you are 0% chance of selection.

If you are performing, then it increases to 25% (not 10%). Training form makes up 50%, and a suitable position being available is the remaining 25%
Disagree with the percentages, but the logic is sound.:thumbsu:

On paper we may seem somewhat top heavy. However Jenkins can run with the ball and kick goals or set them up, and that is a great asset at Subi.

When you play poker when do you show your hand?

Tambling played a good game last week, it would be playing favourites by dropping him in preference of a younger player for the sake of him being younger.
Oh come on. It's basic list management.

This is nothing personal against Tambling but the guy is a trade bust. We paid a large price to get him with the expectation that he'd walk into our best 22. Two and a half years later and he's still barely fired a shot.

Are we really going to re-sign him off the back of a half decent performance or two when the season is already over? If not then there's no reason to play him at all.

Weather forecast:

Friday: Thunderstorms
Saturday: Windy and showers, 90% chance of rain.

Yep, reckon we will be going in to top heavy. There's a reason the home team has dropped a tall.

I think the club must see Hartigan as a more third tall type for the AFL game. Otherwise its just change for the sake of change and an unnecessary loss of required experience. I assume Otten will see a fair chunk of time forward with Talia on Clarke and Hartigan on Mayne. We have to be really accountable on their mid-sized defenders though.

I wonder in the event that Sandi withdraws (likely IMO), if there will be a similar change in our lineup?

On another note Talia and Smith will simultaneously reach 50 games against North in Round 20 which is neat.

Hey guys just a quick question...

With last weeks sub being replaced by your second ruck this week, who do you think will get the vest? Looking at your team sheet, I would guess that it's between Lyons or Tambling?

Also, Thompson being named could just be to put some doubt in Fremantles mind about who to put Crowley on. Although I would have thought he would go to Sloane anyway with Thompsons form and Dangerfield out.

I hope Tambling. Lyons is better playing a full game.

I like how everyone has decided the Crows have delisted Tambling already.

I still think he's going to get a 1 year extension, the only player absolutely gone right now is Johncock.
That will depend on how our trading, free agency goes and how many spots we have available. Surely Joyce would also be an out?
