So we presumably go in with 3 KPD's, no utilities, two ruckmen and one key forward. Not sure this is the best structure we've had this year, losing Hendo and Shaw simultaneously is really disappointing.

Not unhappy with the changes overall. The two INs & OUTs were entirely predictable. Disappointed Symes was retained, but at least he'll be donning the green bib again - so his prospects for hospital passes and instant turnovers are minimised. Wonder why Lyons isn't getting a gig? His SANFL form has been fairly good, by all accounts.

No, because the 2 have very different body sizes, I see this as a reason why Ben Rutten will have a limited life span. Over the next 12 to 18 months, the pace of the game will catch up with Ben Rutten and I don't see him being able to compete as affectively as he will like at the age of 31. I don't see him playing 2015. Saying that, Brent Reilly is a different type of player, lower amount of impact on his body will allow him to play at the high level he has demonstrated this year for a few more years after Rutten has hung up the boots.

I've been hearing this for 4-5 years. I understand what your saying though. Just think he'll have to lay off the weights and shed some kilos (of muscle) if he wants to prolong his career.

Didn't he only just get back into the league side? Probably still getting up to speed after being out for a while. I imagine if he gets into decent form he will probably be considered in the next few weeks.

The stuff on here about Symes is ridiculous. How many hospital passes and instant turnovers last week? How many this season in the SANFL where he is one of the favourites for the Magarey? His disposal and decision making are not that bad. He is an AFL standard footballer and in another side would be playing regularly. He is obviously a fringe player for us and hopefully for him will seek a trade at year's end to continue with a career at top level.

Well Jenkins is getting a good taste of it, might be ever so valuable later , Especialy if he finds his feet.

surely GWS or GC would want a player of his ilk? It makes no sense that a player like him couldn't hold down a AFL spot.

that is if he wants to move to the GWS or GC I would have thought.
Not GWS as Williams gave him to us.
And thats strange as Power are full of these nothing type players that have them grounded in btm 4

A near perfect game by Brad last week. One kick and 5 handballs without a single clanger. Superb decision making in handballing to Bernie in the last quarter.

I read a couple of years ago that he had one of the lowest metres per possession in the AFL. Lots of handballs and short kicks. The criticism regarding his kicking is not supported by the stats. I think it is a combination of his awkward kicking style and his clangers being really memorable. It's a bit like Brodie Smith this year. He had two clangers last week (one kick out of bounds on the full, one loopy kick up in the air) compared to Thompson - 7, VB - 6 and Porplyzia - 5. Everyone remembers Brodies but can you recall most or all of the clangers from other players.

I would prefer to see Lyons, Kerridge or Riley in the 22 but we do know that Brad will be giving his all tomorrow.

Surprised that no one's mentioned Podsiadly popping up on Geelong's emergency list.

Surely if he's fit, he'll play.

Forgive the intrusion guys, I suspect Pods is definitely out. They seem to be wanting to give Walker plenty of opportunity, and he relieves West in the ruck as well. Pods wouldn't do that so I think he'll stay an emergency. He won't kick 4 or 5 but he's been competitive. We're still very reliant on Hawkins.

This is my biggest criticisms of Symes. I agree he doesn't do too much wrong, but on the flip side how much does he do right? He is one of the most "nothing" players I have ever seen. Watching him even at SANFL level, he doesn't actually look to actually DO anything with the football. He will work his butt off to find the footy, but once he gets it, it will be a nothing disposal. What is the point in having a player like this in your side?

Whilst I was extremely happy he dished off to Bernie on the weekend, it really only proved what I had suspected. If he were a true AFL footballer, he would have taken the shot himself, he was at best 50 meters out and the angle wasn't that bad really. An AFL player should believe in himself in that position and have a shot.

Brad Symes goal in football is to rack up as many touches as he can get, nothing else. There is a reason why no other clubs wanted him at the end of last year when he shopped himself around, there is reason why he was the last player we signed up, there is a reason why despite racking up 30 touches a week in the SANFL he couldn't get a game in our side till last week. The only real question that needs answering is why is he in our side now?

If we can manage a win this week with the injuries we have (especially if Sauce misses) it will probably be the best win of the year to date and may even gain some respect from oppostion clubs (but very unlikely)...

I had a chat to B Rutten at a kids clinic here in vic last year and his body was a mess, he looked to be carrying a real bad shoulder niggle and his lower body looked really uncomfortable. at the time he couldnt pick up my nephew for a photo. A lot of things can happen or heal in 12 months but if he is carrying niggles it explains his fall from AA form

Shuttleworth saying Jacobs is the one in trouble. AFC saying he is sore and is training away from the main group.

:confused::(

We'd lose a big advantage if he's out, but West is no world beater. I'm still confident we can win even without him.

If this is true we will lose.
