i think Tippett will miss this week. i also think Smith will play again, Otten earnt another game, and Dogga gets another game.

i think Walker will come for Tippett. the questipon then is does Shaw immediately come in? i think he does, and i think it be for Symes.

Ins: Walker, Shaw
Outs: Tippett, Symes

Dogga would want to improve though. especially if Otten and Shaw continue their good form.
Would be a big call to drop him for a relative youngster at this stage of the season though.

I too find myself in the Walker/Shaw for Tippett/Symes camp. I can't see Tippett coming back this week, having suffered 3 concussions in 5 weeks. At least we get a fairly handy forward back to replace him, not leaving ourselves in the situation we faced against the traffic cones (with no recognised key forwards).

The only other player under a question mark would be Johncock. His 2 goal contribution was certainly handy, but his inability to run out the game indicates a lack of fitness which is not a good sign. Stiffy would probably be omitted if someone like Henderson were available for selection this week. At best, Johncock will probably find himself wearing the lime green vest.

I realise this is my first post on bf, so my opinion doesn't mean much, but we have to start somewhere. :)

As for the questions surrounding playing 4 talls in the same side, I am all for it, and I believe the selection panel are too. We went with this structure in most of what I consider to be our best performances of the season before yesterday (the swans game springs to mind - Jacobs, Tippett, walker and smack). Seems like injuries and suspensions are the only thing stopping us from selecting this structure every week.

There is absolutely no way Jenkins is getting dropped after that performance yesterday. If Tippett is passed fit (a big if), I would suggest that walker would come back in for symes. Our subs have a habit of being dropped the following week, regardless of how they perform. For the record, I thought symes played quite well yesterday.

The other possible in is obviously shaw. Before the eagles game was played, otten would have been a Monty to make way for shaw, but otten performed better than anyone probably imagined he would.

Obviously if Tippett doesn't come up, shaw will come in for him. But if Tippett is fine, there's only room for two of otten, shaw and smith. Smith's job on Stevie j earlier this season was 1st class, and should earn him another guernsey IMO.

Otten may find himself very unlucky to be back in the sanfl, as the selection panel clearly has no interest in dropping dogga.

The only other potential dropping would be stiffy, but that would be pretty unlikely considering his standing at the club and how long he just spent in the sanfl.

Therefore we have:

Out: symes, otten
In: walker, shaw

OR

Out: Tippett, symes
In: walker, shaw

Welcome huludicidal - If Symes is dropped after one game (and as a sub) after such splendid SANFL form (apparently:eek: ) Id be surprised. For the short time he was on he didnt play badly. I believe he'll get a block of 3 games to see what he can offer, otherwise the coaching staff are having a lend of him.

Well Symes didn't play badly but he hardly had any influence. Mostly a few short kicks and handball's sideways. Very Doughty-esque.

I get the feeling we may only see 1 change:

Out: Tippett
In: Walker

I think Sando may give all those that played the benefit of the doubt after such an emphatic win.

Stiffy isn't going to improve his match fitness by sitting on the bench.

Yeah, pretty much echoing my thoughts there Vader. Symes didn't do much wrong, but by the same token he didn't do terribly much that screamed "keep me". Johncock is similar, missed most of the first qtr, but from when I started watching he was basically unsighted bar the face plant whilst attempting to mark. Too often after the first he was led to the ball by his opponent or was caught in the wrong position. He'll probably get another game as sub, but I doubt he'll get a lot more, just too easy for Sando to drop him.

People need to realise that we are currently a top 2 team with minimal injuries, good players will miss out, tough selections will have to be made. Players like Symes and Johncock may have done some okay things, but similar to Knights, Brown and Lynch, okay just isn't enough, they need to make it impossible for Sando not to pick them, like Otten did, like Jenkins, Shaw or Wright have done

No.. but he does have the ability to make a significant impact on the game in the one quarter that he's able to run out before his lack of fitness eliminates him from the game completely. He's also able to play at both ends of the field, allowing maximum flexibility to the coaching panel.

Ideally Stiffy should be back in the SANFL, working on his fitness. Assuming that's not going to happen, he is currently best suited to the substitute role.

If his fitness isn't up to scratch, as I suspect it isn't, he really shouldn't be in our team. This isn't round 1, on the surface he had a decent preseason with minimal injuries. We're into the final 1/3 of the season and looking to go deep into finals, we have minimal injury worries, our players should be fit, if they're not they shouldn't be in our side, simple as that.

Is it possible Stiffy faded out of the game not because of fitness but just because it happens sometimes, especially as a small forward?

I'd like us to persist with Stiffy, even if he starts out in the green vest because he is a player who can make a difference to us winning matches or not come finals time.

I would just play Stiffy all game for the rest of the minor round. He will be fit by finals and could be the difference. Thought he was very good early. He looks a lot fitter than he did a month ago.

Stevie J was subbed off yesterday witk groin issues, apparently in some doubt for next week according to the guys on this mornings footy show over here.

Incredibly shallow analysis. You cannot pigeon hole players like that. What evidence is there that he is unfit anyway. He played as a small fwd where its easy to drop in and out of games. First game back, he kicks 2....what exactly do u want? Have u queried nutters game?

If you can't see stiffys value as we head toward finals then I don't know what to tell you

Regarding the argument that symes wouldn't be given the flick after one game as sub, a few weeks back knights came in for a single game as sub after some good sanfl form (depending on your definition of the word 'good'), and he was dropped the following week. Same thing happened to kerridge early in the season. With two first choice players back in this week, it's pretty clear that symes is on the chopping block IMO, unless there's an injury we don't yet know about.

Its not that symes 'deserves' to be dropped, he just isn't in our best 22 and competition for spots is more intense than I can remember at the moment.

Just another add on re stiffy. He ranked 8th overall for pressure acts yesterday and led the forwards in this stat. That's incredibly valuable and what we want from a small fwd.

The other 7 players were our mids and Porps who spends time in midfield.

Stiffys return very underated imo.

True but in Symes defense ( and I don't want him in the side) he actually looked like the fresh man able to run quicker than those who played the whole match. I have seen others come on and look lost and sluggish. I do have a bit of a concern about Doughty though, does he have groin issues because if not he is turning into Kane Cornes with his inability to kick over a jam jar lately.

The stakes are rising every week.
I walked into a butchers today. Bet the butcher he couldn't reach the meat on the top shelf.

How much? he asked.

Fifty bucks.

Nah, the steaks are too high.

I really think we need a home final in the first week of Finals. It's imperative that we get one in a Prelim if we want a chance of getting to the GF. Therefore, I doubt we will be resting players, but more like subbing off players like Thompson, Dangerfield etc, earlier in games (half way through 3rd or later), along with more bench time for them.

Thats right it is so important to get games and experience into the guys ranked 22-30 between now and week 1 of the finals.
Its going to be important to get games into guys that may feature in our finals campaign.
Sanderson has made it clear he wants to keep structure. We have seen him try 2 KPP and 1 ruckman, or 2 KPP and 2 ruckman. Which one he goes with will depend on the opposition.
Given that Smack is missing and with Tippet under an injury cloud, it is even more important to keep Jenkins in the side.

Joel Corey's 250th next week. Seems that some Geelong folk are resigned to the fact that Scarlett will get suspended. I can't remember the incident, was it suspension worthy?

I didn't think the incident itself is worthy of a suspension, however as others have indicated it may be his carry over points and loading for bad record that may see him miss. But who knows with the MRP Jenny.....its a lottery at best this year!!!
