Changes v Geelong

Hey

Geelong's changes could be something like
In: Podsiadly, Bartel, Wojcinski, Simpson
Out: Johnson (inj.), Walker (omit)

I would honestly have...

In: Shaw, Walker
Out: Tippett, Doughty

It is quite obvious with the key forward situation, Tippo out for Tex. Doughty should be omitted to potentially rest (or that he is not good enough to be in the side) and Shaw comes in for him. Either Shaw plays the role Doughty usually plays or Shaw swaps with Otten easily. Otten has the defensive nous that is near comparable with Doughty so we do not lose out on that spoiling power once Doughty is out.

Johnson would be a massive out, he was carving the Dons up until he was subbed, think he will play, just like WC playing funnies with Darling and Waters. Will be an interesting game as I don't know if the Cats are back or that the Dons are doing their turning to shite in the second half of the season routine.

Walker IN...Tippett out is the obvious one. Tex will be jumping out of his skin and expect 5+ from Texas.
Shaw comes back in, but who goes out is less clear cut.
Thought he showed a bit as a forward against GWS, the way he led, maybe not his kicking for goal, but offers good flexibility.
Otten deserves to stay in...so that leaves Johncock, Doughty, Symes and Smith as the ones around the 18-22 that could go out.

Think Symes deserves another game just to see how he goes against quality opposition. Moved to the right spots and did the team things, will run all day and is flexible in where he can play.
Dogga hasn't done too much wrong and provides an experienced head in the backline, but does Shaw offer more than Dogga?
Smith I thought didn't do too badly yesterday, but has yet to really cement his spot in the 22.
Stiffy's first term was great...after that not so much, but his experience would be valuable against the Cats..

Summary....
Ins Walker, Shaw
Outs Tippo, and either Symes/Smith/Dogga/Johncock

Pick Horlin-Smith you killjoys. He's a gun!

And yes, I want us to trade for him.

We'll give you your choice out of Symes, Tambling or Neil's Finals Football Playbook. Or all three if you're keen.

Once the Crows get through this week against the Cats and Dons, I am sure the management of players will take place.

Jacobs needs a spell as does Danger and Thompson IMO. Even Rutten does given the % time he has been on the ground this season!

Thommo the tank engine does not need a break. He needs a Brownlow and a flag ;)

He's a beast and he should be right. I'd give Danger and Sloane a week off though. They're still young

Agree with Symes/Tippett for Walker/Shaw.

Tippett won't play I think. They're going to be super cautious with him, especially with finals coming up. If we can beat the Eagles by 50 without him, we could almost put him in cotton wool for the rest of the regular season if we wanted.

Shaw was playing too well to be left out of the team. His form up forward was just as impressive as his form down back. Provides great flexibility. Much better option than Symes.

Can we please play out a game where our tall forward(s) don't get knocked out in the 2nd quarter. Walker will be vital against Geelong this week. Geelong look like they've returned to some good form now, so its going to be a tough game. Win this, and I think top 2 is almost a certainty.

No I in team ;)

And no brownlow in flag !

Rest Thommo before finals being the eldest midfielder the break will do him good.

The Brownlow was just off the cuff

I think he will be right. He has others taking the tags and stress away from him this year and he didn't need relieving last year when he basically carried our whole team. He's a competitive beast, and its not like he's 32 years old. He is in great shape too. I say play him unless he has an actual niggle

I'd go...

In: Walker, Shaw

Out: Jenkins*, Symes

* if Tippett plays I think Josh Jenkins will miss out and we will play Kurt Tippett as that second ruck. Symes will drop out for Shaw and Otten or Johncock will start as the sub.
Wha a a --- a at Jenkins dropped on top of great game and real worries about Kurt boy that is crazy

Tippett might be rested for a few weeks, a concussion can have lasting effects. Decision making for example could be effected even though the outward signs of concussion have gone. I'd rather him out for 2 or 3 games to be safe. 3 weeks is a small price to ensure he has a long career.

I'd really like to see Jenkins play again. I believe he has the talent to hold his position and just needs consistent games. I really like his kick at goals, especially on the run. When we play teams that play a "shut down" type game on our tall forwards, this type of running goal from outside 50m needs to happen. We can't rely solely on small forwards to crumb all our goals. An extra player that can score this way is a plus. We will need to to score a winning score against a side like Hawthorn, we might need to win a shootout type finals game with both sides scoring 20+ goals.

I'd also like to see him get a chance to improve his ruck skills. Sauce cannot shoulder the load alone, and I'd rather Jenkins in than Smack, having said that Smack's injury opens up the chance for Jenkins to prove his worth.

I'm also not adverse to giving Symes another game based on his last. He really needs the opportunity to see how he fits into the team structure on game day. Will he be part of Sando's core team or a depth player? This also gives him the chance to assess his career, he might be happy with being a depth player at the Crows or he might want to seek greener pastures if he can't get regular games. He needs to play now so he and the Crows can both make decisions come trade time.

I'm guessing you mean Tippett should be given a rest. I think 1 match will do. That's two weeks of resting.

Jenkins is interesting. He's not great in the ruck when it comes to actual rucking but he more than makes up for it when the ball hits the deck by throwing his body around.

The encouraging thing for me on the weekend was even though we were smashed in the hitouts category our mids still had a field day. So even against the best ruck combination in the comp we still had midfield dominance. That's a great thing to be able to do and we know that Sauce will towel up everyone else.

I'm in the if it aint broke don't try and fix it camp. Unless there are forced changes leave it as be. I can see Sando giving Symes a Knights style block of games. Remember Knights was a sub in his first game back.
It may be tough on Shaw not getting a gig back straight away but Otten's game warrants him another gig. If we bring Shaw back im afraid we will be too tall on a ground that is usually very windy and quite often wet.
Very nervy about this game. However i think this is our best chance in years to knock the cats off at Skilled.
I am also of the school of thought that Jacobs does not need to be rested. He has been playing huge amounts of time in the forward line in the last few weeks which has eased the load somewhat. I have not seen Jacobs tiring at all in fact I think he's getting better as the season progresses. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think Simpson will be in. SJ more likely to play than not, but a bit early in the week to make a call. Same with Pods.

Expecting Bartel & Wojak in, 2 kids out.
