Changes v Geelong

PS: I'll have a preview written and posted on the Geelong board at some stage tomorrow evening for those interested.

I look forward to it. By all means post a link to it in a new thread on this board. In this way you can get some viewpoints/discussion on your preview from Crows supporters which are not filtered by the sensitivities/constraints that apply to Crows fans posting on the Geelong board.

I will do.:thumbsu:

Crows posters are more than welcome on the Geelong board to express their opinions. The majority of Geelong supporters like to engage in constructive analysis.

True enough, but as you probably have noticed in this very thread, there are some Geelong fans who are absolute Moos.

If a Crows fan points this self-evident fact out in a posting on the Geelong board, then this is the response they will meet:

Can't get a sensible discussion going if we can't eliminate the occasional peabrain.

This does raise an actual point of discussion, believe it or not. For mine, I'd like to see an actual "on paper" player match-up analysis done for real.

Rutten should be able to cover Podsiadsly, Talia on Hawkins I would imagine. Otten to take their third tall forward, Walker isn't it? Someone inconsequential.

Stevie J does pose an interesting problem. Might I suggest trying Shaw on him? Pets on Stokes or Chapman, whoever is in form.

On form, Jacobs has clearly got West well and truly covered. Is it worth tagging Bartel? It is Bartel's first game back from injury, so he is unlikely to be damaging. If people think otherwise, then this is clearly a job for Van Berlo.

I have no idea who they might try to get to cover Sloane, Dangerfield, Thompson, McKay and Wright ... Selwood can't possibly try to cover them all. Perhaps someone with a better knowledge of Geelong's current playing squad might have a point to raise here. I think the Crows might be able to dominate in the midfield.

As for Geelong defenders, I would think they are in for a torrid time trying to cover all of Walker, Porplyzia, Vince, Johncock, Douglas and Callinan.

Brodie smith cut Johnson completely out of the game last time. Expect us to go to the well again

It's up to your Mods to apply the same restraints, but i can see where the frustration lies.

.

Bartels first game back from suspension, though he hasn't been playing as much through the mids this year but being their general in defense

He generally plays where we need him the most, depending on the situation we find ourselves in.

I expect him to start on a wing and try and negate the influence of your drive out of the backline, by blocking up one side of the ground where you seem to move the ball quickly. He'll more than likely roam between the back half and centre and occasionally try and make his opponant accountable by drifting forward.

With Christensen likely to be back from injury, he'll play an inside role at the clearances.

I would be expecting Jacobs to smash West or whoever is rucking for Geelong this weekend. Which will give Thommo, Sloane, Danger, Wright and co first use

This will go a long way to us winning

Its a ******* massive game!

Precisely. Furthermore, get first use, win the midfield, and win contested possession and the Crows will go a long way towards winning the game.

Enright provides there most drive from defence. Pets to him. Bartel seems to only drop back when Geelong are getting soundly beaten in the middle. Vb to Selwood...

Sounds good, although given that Jacobs will have it almost entirely his own way, it would perhaps be expected that Bartel will have to drop back. Maybe Dougie or Vince could be used to make Bartel accountable in the backlines when this happens.

If VB takes out Selwood, who keeps Stevie J quiet? Shaw perhaps? Maybe, but that is a big gap in experience, and it is asking a lot of Shaw. I shudder to think of Doughty or Symes on Stevie.

Only if they drop him back lose. We should also be backing our own mids and Fwds to get the job done and not worry too much about them...

Petrenko to Enright, Van Berlo to Selwood and Wright to Bartel or Kelly. You'd hope Jacobs can get the edge on West and Simpson in the unlikely chance he plays. Talia on Hawkins and Rutten to Podsiadly, with Shaw to return and play on Walker, or Taylor if he goes forward.

Means nothing no. Sydney broke Geelongs massive streak at Skilled late lats year; no one bothered to inform them Geelong hadnt lost there for ages, might as well not try. Previous records mean nothing.

And don't forget that Adelaide came within a bees dick of winning here in 2009 (in the midst of our 29-game home streak).

Sounds right. But who plays on Stevie J? Otten? Isn't quick enough I would have thought.

Slippery is harder to contend with. OK then, Brodie Smith to Stevie J. That leaves Otten on Walker, right? Shaw on Chapman? Doughty on Stokes?
Stokes will be sub I reckon. The rest of the team will be too important to hand the vest. I'd expect Doughty on Motlop, which worries me.

I expect petrenko to line up on motlop. There is no way in hell I'd be putting doughty anywhere near a player with the electrifying speed of motlop.

Put it this way, I'd like the same matchup on motlop that we had in the game at aami earlier this season. I could be wrong, but I believe pets went with him for at least some of this game. I do vividly remember that motlop had a horrific day and absolutely no impact whatsoever. let's do that again ;)
