1 change id like to see and I'm bound to get berated for is Rayner for Matho.

When the ball is there to be won Rayner can barely get his hands on it lately. I see 2 positives out of a move like this.

A) Matho gets his long awaited chance after months of overperforming in the magoos plus others get a sense that you will be rewarded.

B) Bit of a wakeup call for Rayner. Yes he is coming off an acl. But that shouldn't mean he is not prone to not performing when we need.

I mean there is a reason why I'm not coaching. Calls like this are probably that reason. Just my 20cs.

Just leave Rayner forward. He gets 3-4 shots a game.

We have a resting ruck, Daniher, Hippy, Rayner, Bailey, Cameron and McCarthy playing the bulk of the forward time and Rayner and Bailey spend 20% midfield time to allow them to rest.

Don't mind it although it makes us slower or just as slow on transition, the 1 even less likely option I would like to see is Matho in for Jarryd Lyons, Jarryd has regressed quite a bit lately and I know Matho would show more desire to run both ways and do the little one percenters like shepherding... does not use the ball by foot as well as Jarryd though.
Don't mind that either.

Without knowing how Zorko, Rich, Berry and Prior are going but I would hope that apart from Zorko they are straight back. Zorko only after 2 in a row I think he needs a longer break.

Fort/Oscar combo looks better. I'd drop Hipwood for McStay. McStay works harder and is one of the best forwards for defensive pressure. Without rucking duties I think he is the better option.

Coleman and Harris straight in for Fullerton and Madden. Michael I think showed more than Madden so stays until Rich is fit.

Ah Chee in for Sharp. Sharp offers the least of all the wingers at the moment.

Lyons out for Matho. I would also be happy for Dev to get the role. Or even push McCluggage wider for Robbo or Tunstill and give Dev and Matho the inside mid time

The definition of insanity = doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different outcome. we lost another game with a mid-field that can't seem to offer pressure and defence. Across the season and maybe the last two seasons we have know our mid-field get slack, have to riot act explained, play a better game then just slide back. There are enough games left in the season to tinker with something new and try to explode through the finals.

I though those that came in did their best but it's hard when the mid-field is not applying pressure and players up the field are storming into for forward 50 with time to choose options.

I'm not sure it's Matho for Lyons thats a bit of same, same. You might get a one game lift from Matho and players around him might lift thinking they are next on the block but I think we need to try something new and change our dynamic. We either do something now or just sit and wait to see who he get at the end of the season.

I think it has to be Starc - if Coleman and Rich are back we just have to take the risk and give him some games in a row in the midfield rotation. I also agree with other the two ruckman seem to make a difference and so does the resting ruckman in the forward line. The only way I can see that working is if Hipwood comes out of the forward line. Now Hippy has a good motor, he has been running well and taking opponents all over the ground and his field kicking isn't so bad nor his vision. I'm for playing him as an intercept marker in the back line. This might get a couple of weeks trial in the 2's and they have been doing it with Fullerton so if we could find Hippy as a Jake Lever we could still go ok and have Hippy booming them long balls out of defence.

Just a thought - I just don't want to drive into the finals going same - same.

We've been trying to get Rayner and Bailey into the middle more but unfortunately they haven't performed. We've also moved Clug from the wing to an onball position.

We have attempted to change but we're still very reliant on Neale and Lyons to win a huge amount of contested footy which hasn't worked against the top teams

Covid can still leave young healthy fit people with lingering symptoms and lethargy. We may get our Covid boys back but cannot assume that all will be 100% well and running on top of the ground. Bailey had Covid a few weeks ago and he has been struggling - maybe unrelated, but I'm not sure a "7 days out" is as simple as it sounds. One thing for sure is that Covid can affect people differently.

I don’t think Adams has been the same since he was out with Covid either. Looks like he has lost a lot of condition, can hardly run. Maybe he has injury issues as well but I think he needs a rest.

In:
Andrews, Coleman, J Berry, Prior, Ah Chee, Mathieson, McStay

Out:
Tunstill, Sharp, Cockatoo, Fullarton, Lester, Lyons, Hipwood

Doubt Rich or Zorks get up and Answerth will still be H&SP.

At some point Lyons lack of defensive work rate will need to see him have a spell, he can win clearances yes but he's so bad going the other way that he very rarely wins his match up because his opponents disposals are far more damaging.

Forward structure worked better early in the year with the Daniher, McStay and resting ruck structure, keen to get back to that. Really like Hippy but his form doesn't warrant selection right now.

“The AFL has gone back to testing (players) twice a week and once on game day … as a club, we decided to go back to testing every day at the start of two weeks ago, because we started getting a couple of cases,” Lions football boss Danny Daly said on Monday.

“There’s a third wave coming through which is pretty severe in the community. I think we had 4000 cases in Queensland over the weekend.

“It’s not ideal and we’ve gone into complete lockdown at the club trying to protect it as much as we can.”

The league is determined to push on with the finals series regardless of Covid-19 infection rates within clubs, ruling out rescheduling finals even if extensive cases emerge.

Daly said the Lions had been working closely with Dr Paul Griffin – director of infectious diseases at Brisbane’s Mater Private Hospital – as it attempts to combat further spread.

“(At the Gabba) we’re right down in the bunkers and there’s just no air through there. Once you get something down there, it spreads pretty quickly,” he told RadioTAB.

“We’ve had to sanitise the whole joint and go back to mask wearing and a few things.

“We’re trying to do the best we can to contain it. Last week was a pretty average week for us. We had 22 in total – players and staff.”

 I was tossing up whether to post this but this put me over the edge >

I am the financial administrator for my 86 year old aunt who is in the Dementia ward of an aged care facility here in Brisbane. Lately when you visit you have to wear a mask, visor, gloves, protective clothing and do a Covid test on arrival to visit due to a Covid outbreak in the ward around 6 weeks ago, I haven't visited for a few weeks now.

I get regular newsletters and phone calls from them, anyway I got one today with an update... > Turns out the separated Dementia ward with 24 patients all very elderly... every one of them ended up contracting Covid, the latest is - 23 of them recovered and are back to their "normal" pre Covid infection health status, the 1 other is on the improve and isolating from the rest of the group.

I know it may seem weird but we need to shove hipwood on the wing because he's doing nothing in the forward line.

Please stop posting irrelevant covid nonsense

Don't let it stress you out jackess, you will give yourself another meltdown.

I am just venting my opinions and sharing information, don't take it so seriously, I'm not expecting my views to have any affect on the AFLs, Australia's or the Earth's Covid policies or protocols so you are safe from my wrong think. Just for you:D;) >

If we only tested symptomatic players, something like this would be the result the end of the season IMO, out of an approx 750 player cohort >

10-12 players had a sniffle and sore throat.
3-4 had cold like symptoms.
1-2 had Flu like symptoms.
0 hospital, ICU admissions or deaths.

100s actually had Covid but carried on life and played as per normal and never knew they had it because we didn't test them.

Sorry again for posting this on the footy board people but it is topical at the moment and footy related with our current issues, I promise this is my last post re Covid and will take it to the dedicated thread in The Den in future.

I wouldn't be so confident. Bailey and Adams have both been very poor since returning from covid.

We don't want to leave anything to chance and making minor sacrifices could be the difference

Would love to have two of him - reluctant to take out our best defender but agree the midfield could do with his grunt. I have heard people say "No way it will happen without a full pre season training with the mids," I am no expert clearly but I disagree, throw him in there.

Are you suggesting COVID doesn't kill old people or are you just sharing a story about your aunt? Is she a lions fan?

If you are not winning the centre clearances, which are the fast avenue to goal, it doesn't matter what you disposal is like.

I am a sharing person, just sharing a fact, they were all at least triple vaccinated and in a very good setting in regards to getting quality treatment.

Great point Gadz, this ongoing 3-4 season problem of getting regularly smashed out of the centre bounce against the better sides is a huge problem, it is such an advantage to get it forward quickly from there and get multiple 1 v 1 contests and if you don't score just lock it in.
