Changes v GWS (post-bye)

People need to watch the game again. Morton worked hard, won some of his own ball, ran with it more than once, and it wasn't as if every single one of his possessions resulted in an opposition goal - You can't crucify a player because he causes a turnover and the result is particularly bad; you'd struggle to name a player in the back two-thirds of the ground who didn't turn the ball over at least once or twice.

Been as big a critic of Morton as anyone but I think the last few weeks he has shown a willingness to work and try to strive towards Neeld's way of playing. He has been at rock-bottom for confidence for a long time now and if he can just keep pushing and start to curb his disposal errors its pretty clear that he can still offer something.

This. There were far worse players out there today than Morton. That one poor disposal tainted his game though.

Trengove deserves a run at Casey.

However with the bye, Im expecting him to use it as a time to freshen his mind and body. He really is labourng both mentally and physically.

Hoping he can have a big 2nd half of the year, cos his 1st half was an absolute shocker.

Oh it did, but compare it to his denial of Sinclair (I think) for the goal in the third as well...

In - Clint Bartram, Rohan Bail, Kelvin Lawrence ( will need to be promoted)

Out - Luke Tapscott (susp) , Brad Green, Cale Morton

Bartam will be back , the coach loves him and hes in the leadership group. Bail will give us some more run, and Kelvin Lawrence has been solid for Casey and deserves a chance as our small forward to see what he can do. We are crying out for a crumber at the feet of Clark, Garland etc...

Out is Tappy suspended, Green over the hill and Morton who just destroyed us with his terrible turnovers (without those he didnt play too badly).

How id like them to line up

B - Bartram Frawley Rivers

HB - McDonald Sellar Nicholson

C - Watts Grimes Trengove

HF - Howe Garland Blease

F - Sylvia Clark Lawrence

R - Jamar Jones Moloney

I/C - Dunn Bail McKenzie Magner (sub)

Sellar out? wow!!

Assuming your thinking matchups BC since Sellar has been fantastic the last 2 weeks.
I don't think there is room for all our tall backs, and Sellar (as good as he has been) doesn't have the strings to his bow to keep his spot.

Time for Martin to return and pinch hit in the ruck, and Clark to stay permanent forward.

Out: Morton gone...... He will never make it as his skills and execution under pressure is the worst i have seen!
Tapscott.... Suspended, or just out of form.. He is too top heavy and needs to work on endurance and pace.
Green... Father time has said its time....

In.... Bail, Martin, Bate.

Oh.. And am so sick of people saying that Morton has made a lot of errors but his effort is there... If he is not up to it, then he is not up to it!! He is not a first year player, so no leniency should be afforded here.. Shape up or ship out, end of story!! You want an A grade organization, then stop rewarding crap...

Hearldscum reporting that Mitch Clark is facing suspension for his "pressure point" choke on Brown.. Uh oh...

Edit: also saw a few people on the other boards mention Wellinghams stuff jab on Tapscott(?) just after his late hit.. I saw him make the motion, not sure if it connected, but remember the commentator at the time also calling it.. Very deliberate.

Assuming we don't cop a suspension;

In: Martin, Bail
Out: Sellar, Green

Sellar's unlucky but we can't continue to be fornicatingly mountainous in the backline - we get killed by crumbers in big moments.

Bail in for Green, we have too many marking targets up forward who aren't putting enough forward pressure on. Green should come back later in the year to reach 250.

I'd be inclined to rest Barty against GWS if his knee is still a problem.

Line-up:
B: Garland Frawley Tapscott
HB: McDonald Rivers Nicholson
C: Trengove Grimes Moloney
HF: Blease Watts Sylvia
F: Bail Clark Martin
R: Jamar Jones Howe
Int: McKenzie Morton Dunn
S: Magner

IMO that's a really balanced team and getting close to best 22.

Howe and Grimes looked really productive in the centre, they hunted the ball and weren't reactive like Moloney has been all year.

Dunn has made an impact the last two weeks as sub; he deserves to start - Magner's been in and out of games (admittedly being played in the forward-line isn't helping).

Garland to defence, gives Watts a chance to gain some confidence up forward against someone in his draft class in Davis but also Garland up forward isn't going to be a regular match winner IMO.

I do not remember this!

Out: Sylvia, Moloney, Green
In: Davey, Couch, Someone else willing to put their arse on the lIne

Lol.

I hope you aren't insinuating that Davey will put his body on the line

there was something about Bail exhibiting concussion symptoms still, could be one of those injuries with an unspecified length of time on the sidelines, otherwise I'd like to see him included in the squad.

As a neutral, anybody wanting to drop Morton based on yesterday must have watched a different game to me. There would be a minimum of 10 players that played their role worse than Morton yesterday for Melbourne and probably closer to 15.

He's finally starting to actually look like a footballer. His contested work was easily the best I've seen from him and his long release kicks were when Melbourne looked at their most dangerous. He gets in trouble when he tries to pin-point passes under pressure and he's still got a heap to work on but yesterday, and for much of this year, he's been miles in front of what he's done the last couple of seasons. Also for a bloke that's criticised as being soft he's one of the few that looks to be keen to go hard at the contest under Neeld's new game plan even if he doesn't yet have the body or skills for that part of the game yet.

He's far from a complete player but the signs he showed yesterday were overwhelmingly positive. Dropping him based on that would send completely the wrong message to him and the playing group.

Also, to those people wanting Morton out and Bartram in, you must have very short memories. Bartram (along with Joel MacDonald) have been unbearable to watch with ball in hand this year.

Bartram's match against Sydney was his worst in about 3 years. I know he had an injury cloud, but I reckon he should have a couple of weeks for Casey to find a level of confidence in his kicking (and possibly his work on a man)

OUT: Tapscott, Green
IN: Davis, Martin

Keep Morton. His first half was pretty good, yeah, he made a couple of glaring mistakes but while we were outclassed Morton was one of our better players and he tried hard.

I agree with these changes. Morton survives but barely. It's not his clangers for me, because then we'd drop half our team, but his lack of intensity and urgency that is glaring. That being said, wasn't he drafted for his amazing foot skills? Still, he is playing better now than this time last year - at least he seems to be trying to win some ball/affect some contests rather than standing outside doing nothing.

Moloney also barely survives. Another absent performance against a good side..

If the MRP want to show any kind of consistency then he wont get suspended as it wasn't sufficient impact.

This is the image the HUN are showing of Clark.

Unfortunately they didn't manage to get any picks of Wellingham.;)

Tapscott obviously will have a case to answer and Robbo made mention of him, nothing about Goldsack other than how important he was to the Pies. Grow a pair Robbo FFS.

FFS, Casey have another bloody bye this week. The VFL fixture must be the biggest farce going around. The one week when 1) a lot of players will need match practice and 2) many more Dees fans would consider going to watch the Scorpions, and they have a bye. Farcical.

It wasn't one turnover, it was many. Resulting in direct Collingwood goals. And it's not the first week he has done this. I'm not saying he is a complete dud, but there must be better options available. Having said that, I'd still pick Morton over Maxwell. :p

It was even more farcical this week when Casey didn't get the televised game despite it being their 'Pink Ribbon' game in support of breast cancer.

Mind boggled.
