A player like Matty J shouldn't be playing with injections.

Danger, yes. Sloane, yes. Matty J, No.

disagree.

if the risk to further damage is insignificant
if the player has earnt his spot
and if the player is playing well enough to retain his spot.

you gotta remember he wants to play just as badly if not more than the stars to prove himself. if he's playing to a level that demands selection and he's happy to be jabbed, then he plays.

if my first "if" is passed, then whether or not his form warrants selection is the only consideration IMO.

So another example of our board being sheep and not leaders.

They don't have to follow the lead set by the nuffies in AFL house.
Surely if you're going to take on the AFL you would do it over something that actually matters, not a complete non-event like this? Choose your battles wisely and only fight those worth fighting.

I would of thought Mackay would be the sub as the last couple of subs have been players down on form. Love that Laird's in.

Clubs with guts and fortitude, pick their battles.

Clubs like the Crows, need to take baby steps and pick battles they can win. We don't pick any battles because we don't want to upset the apple cart.

And what makes you think this is a battle they can win?

And what makes you think this is a battle they can win?

Why couldn't they win this one?

If you don't try, you won't win any. I'm of the belief, they should be bettering the AFL on every issue and not picking and choosing their battles. They should be annoying the **** out if them over the smallest issue.

My biggest issue last year was the selection of Callinan and Petrenko for the prelim - it was an emotional decision and it cost us big time. Outside of that, you can't fault his first year; unfortunately, those golden ticket selections seem to have carried into this season.

The biggest point I'd like to make in response to your post, and it's what I've been saying for a while - just because we are winning, doesn't mean the team cannot be improved. Sydney are the Premiers, they landed the biggest trade of the year, strengthened their team immensely, but in doing so, will force someone out of the their side; but it'll be worth it.

.

Of course we can improve, even when winning. Its all about looking for opportunities, not just problems, one of my key arguments about having Danger as captain in 2014

But we still need some experience in our team. Its not that beneficial to have 7 or 8 kids with 20 games or less in your team

Sometimes it stinks, but we've given plenty of kids chances to see how our team can improve from that

Actually Walker kicked 4 in a night game vs Matthew Scarlett. Two quiet ones the next two weeks (Barry Hall goalless too from memory) and he got the boot.

And I didn't realise Scott Stevens was All Australian. Fair effort - three AA defenders. Unlucky Phil :thumbsu:
You still don't realize a lot about Scotty Stevens.

It really astounds me how many awesome payers we have had, yet how little success we have actually has.

Either the players we not as good as the coaches believed or the coaches really had no idea.

Yep, that's it.

Due to injury or form?
It's been both, but that really doesn't matter. It's hard to believe the criticism the selection panel has copped, considering how many inexperienced players have come into the team this season. Our side is very young, not sure what else people want. Maybe support GWS if you like watching a side full of 19 year olds playing each week?

You would make a very bad leader of any organisation.

The criticism the selection panel has received over the course of the year has been valid. They started off poorly but are finally getting it right. There was a lot of anxiety leading up to this week because we've seen in the past kids getting burnt after receiving limited opportunities. Harper even said today they have made this mistake in the past. If you don't think the criticisms have been valid you only need to look at what the selectors have said and done:

Not selecting Crouch round 1. Sando admitted it was an error after the fact.
Picking and sticking with Petrenko when he was underdone and out of form. Eventually dropped not even in the squad.
Picking Callinan when underdone. Dropped and hasn't been picked since. Harper admitted they made an error.
Stiffy and Porps. In, out, in, out. Selection yoyo which hasn't helped either player settle.
Persisting with Jaensch in defence. Now dropped.
Subbing Lyons, leaving Tambling on for the whole game when he was crap and then dropped.

These are all errors, there is no denying it and worthy of criticism. Having said that they have done some good things lately. Once the kids have got in they've shown faith in them and given them a decent run at the expense of name players. I'd still like to see a crumber in this week though.

Having you seen how many under 50 game players Geelong have playing?

2 good posts EC. Our club embraces mediocrity and our supporter base is desensitised to it.
To some of our supporters our club does very little wrong and our players are awesome. They should all be cherished. Our numerous premierships reflect this.

Having said that, I think what weve seen with Sando is a realisation our current best 22 aren't good enough to win the flag and it makes no sense to keep playing players based on name. I feel for him though, he is coaching a side thats lost a key player for no compensation and has lost two years of quality picks. We owe it to him to back him in and extend his contract now so he can build our next premiership side.

They had 10 under 50 gamers tonight - equal to how many we've picked in the 22 this week.
As I've said, there's very little wrong with the side we've picked this week. Geelong are amazing though, they are playing for the top of the table and bring in a kid to play his first game and have another playing his second. Would we be doing thàt if we were top?
