Preview Changes V GWS

Jeez there's gonna be some heartache on that extended bench. My guess is Callinan, Laird and Lyons will drop out.
That's my guess as well. That said, I wouldn't be upset at all if Laird stays at the expense of Jaensch.

I thought VB was supposed to be out for longer? Would have been nice if he could have had a run in the SANFL this week (of which there aren't any games this weekend unfortunately). Not because I don't think he's an automatic start for us, but because it would be good to give a youngster another game against GWS.

I don't understand this comment. He only played one game. It wasn't a good one, but it's still just one bad game.

It is really hard to settle a side with this kind of thinking.

I can't wait for the "Changes" thread after the GWS game. "All played well! Wow, selection headaches this week!"

Changes threads should not be allowed until Monday until everyone has had a chance to either calm down, or get their hand off it.
I'm not basing it on one game. He has struggled this year.

It might have been an opportunity for that, not that I'd be in favour of a youngster in at the expense of VB, but it would have been beneficial for VB to get some run back into his legs after a few weeks out.

Nope, he's back and fully fit, and our captain doesn't need to come back through the SANFL after only 3 weeks out. Playing someone like Lyons over him would be an insult. This is a brilliant game for VB to come back in, less pressure.

I don't agree with his selection, but I can see why Sando is persisting. Porps finding form will significantly help our season and any resurrection of a good finals showing; Lyons playing ok to good does not. Especially since Tex is out and our forwardline options aren't extensive. I hope this is his last chance though.

I think Jaensch will drop out, along with Lyons and Callinan. But wouldn't be surprised to see Callinan or Jaensch play over Laird. Interesting times.

Really think it's time to give Callinan a shot. Hasn't really had his turn this year but thought he looked good in the NAB cup. I'm betting 3 goals to him if he comes in this weekend.

What I don't understand is they clearly thought Porps was sufficiently poor to drop. He then has no SANFL game before being called straight back for yet another ordinary performance. Now he is retained in the 18? My question is what's changed since the original omission.

We all love Porps and all know his gifts. But seriously when was the last time he really featured in a match? He has been average for a very long time.

With Lynch, Kerridge, Jenkins, Kerridge and Porps we are too lopsided. Besides Jaensch we dont have a small crumbing forward. A fit and in form Callinan offers our forward line plenty. Plus Slippery Pete will be happy with me. I would drop Porps for Callinan.

As for Lyons, we are struggling with clearances. He helps that and thats crucial for making the finals let alone a good finals showing.

So JJ*, Smac, Smith, Kerridge, Talia, Brown and Lynch not enough young players with under 50 games in the side?....

With the possibility of Laird and Lyons added to the list?

Nope, we're playing GWS for **** sake.

Why do we need to play stupid mind games with selections.

Just pick the bloody side and get out and win, but no.

We've been chugging along for quite a while with a number of gold pass holders and the reality is if they all click and play really well then we are maybe a top 4 side... Maybe. We are not a top 2 side though.

I reckon Jaensch has played well the last couple of weeks. Do you really think he should be the one in the gun?
Not particularly.. but if it means another youngster gets a game then I'm all for it. Looking at the players on the bench, VB & Henderson are almost certain inclusions. Callinan is almost certainly out. That leaves 2 positions for Laird, Lyons, Kerridge and Jaensch. Given that choice, my preference would be for Kerridge & Laird.

Nice counting Mattrox.

So Geelong are playing the other undefeated team, not the winless KIDS. Could you add up how many players with less than 50 games in the Geelong 22 tomorrow night?

Vb, Henderson, Callinan and Jaensch will be the bench.

It's just the way this football club rolls with selection.

Lyons and Kerridge won't be frustrated but they should be. We are not rewarding form, this is rewarding seniority.

Sick of the bullshit this club sends out to supporters. The way they act, it's as if we have in 4 premierships in 10 years but in truth, it's been 16 years since the last.

I wonder what your preference would have been after Kerridge's 3 disposal midfield performance against Carlton.

Kerridge and Laird were brought in against a weakened, already shit Bulldogs side. Kerridge didn't really do anything until his 3rd game against Hawthorn. Laird struggled with his disposal against the Dogs but looked much better against Carlton.

Lyons had the superior SANFL form but doesn't come in until we played tough opposition in Hawthorn. He gets 53% time on ground and within that only limited time in the midfield. And then the next week he's tossed back out into obscurity. I mean, what?

I don't consider myself as having the 'toss everyone over the age off 22 out and play the kids' mindset. Lyons is just a really interesting case. The coaches seem to think he is Brad Symes - 'oh well he's had 10 SANFL BOGs in a row, I guess it's time to give him one token AFL game just so the media doesn't call us out on not rewarding form'. Whereas what you'd expect for a player of his age is 'well he's clearly too good for the SANFL, let's back him in for a run of games and see what he can do'.

I would be suprised if he doesn't make it as an AFL footballer, but at this rate I'd be even more surprised if he makes it here.

Essendon almost lost with that attitude.
This. We arent a lay down certainty this week. Play the best team, either way youre gonna have people like alex complaining regardless.

Meh.

Our selections this year have been woeful, and it's starting to look like Sando plays favorites.

We finally drop Porps.... Then bring him straight back in without him playing a game, in front of a young forward playing very well in the SANFL. Surprise, he's mediocre, again... But we aren't going to omit him?

Callinan, forgetting my issues with him, has no SANFL form. We should not be playing out of form players - especially when we've had guys in great form outside of the team. Some guys are forced to wait until we have injuries, even though they're carving up the SANFL while our incumbents suck, others are given a gold ticket.

Johncock's career is apparently over - regardless of his SANFL form. Fair enough if we're dropping him to play Lyons, but not Porps or Callinan. He should've played instead of Tambling anyway.

Stop playing out of form players - we all love Porps, but he's rubbish ATM, let him find form in the SANFL, when he has, then pick him.

If we're dropping players because they're too old, then be bloody consistent about it.

Stop talking about SANFL players demanding selection if you aren't willing to reward them for it.

Selection has cost us multiple games this year, and it did last year. It's an inconsistent mess.

Would be interested in your feedback about the stadium, its claimed to be a boutique stadium!

I've been - pretty cool, I liked it.

When Lyons got subbed out instead of Tambling last week, you could just tell that Sando and the coaches don't particularly rate him.

Still think we have to give them credit for putting the faith in some of the youngsters. Laird, Kerridge, Crouch, Brown, Lynch have all be given an opportunity. Lyons is a puzzling case though.

If you were framing a market, Lyons would have to be $1.50 to leave the club at seasons end. If he doesn't make the 22, thats the end of him at the AFC I think.
