Yeah good onya . He kicked half of your lots total score wich is an achievement no matter who you play. The Dockers thought enough of his effort to pick him this week . I can't understand how you Suban haters continue to carry on about him and and you are worse than Dawson haters.

The dockers have thought enough of his effort to pick him 150 times previously, they were wrong then too.

And your better qualified to select players than RTB and match committee?. Suggest you take your hand off it before you go blind.

Yeah I actually think the weather forecast may have influenced the decision to play him.

If that's true then it's pretty harsh on De Boer who's a very good wet weather performer and who has had a pretty dominant run in the WAFL. Barlow responding well in the last two weeks must be keeping him out.

Call me crazy....But I dont mind Suban back in.
He is probably as close to a "strong man" as we have...not afraid to throw his weight around and create a bit of biff and aggression. This is not a bad thing. I think his role is best served as a 'stopper", similar to how Crowley was.

There is no doubt Dawson succeeds in the role (albiet role limited in scope) he is asked to do.

Can anyone pinpoint Suban's exact role? Personally I thought it was to defend clean clearances, and to help us win them (re the Fyfe Brownlow shout out). Which goes a way (not all the way ...) to excusing his low possession counts. Prior to his dropping, we were absolutely smoked in this areas, unacceptably. Clearly he hadn't performed.

Then in the North game he seemed to be moved away from the stoppages, yet still got shit all touches. Predictably - dropped.

Suban is indefensible at AFL level IMO.

Should change thread to "Suban Vent Thread"

If Deboer, Mzungu or C.Pearce came in for Grey you would all still be complaining but let's be real, Suban is better then all three of those guys so the selection seems fit.

I expect him to play well tomorrow night

Yeah I was expecting de Boer to come back in rather than Suban. I personally think De Boer has earned it more with consistently solid performances at WAFL but obviously the selectors see something that we need more in Suban. Guess we'll see how he goes tomorrow.

Strongly disagree but yes, what's done is done and we can only hope he has a blinder tomorrow.

Tougher than Grey? Not in a million years.

Am I confuse or we actually 6-0 and on top of the ladder.

As part of this discussion doing the rounds is an article in the Age Real Footy about Freo having the second oldest age average for the first 6 games this season. This is even after our influx of rookies we have seen so far this season! We need to seriously turn the wheel and playing Suban (and Ibbo) does not help with developing the likes of Tucker and Grey... what do we learn from it... NOTHING. The number of 18-22 year olds we have played is only worse than NM, WCE, Geelong and Hawthorn...all other clubs have played more Very disappointed in these selections.

And your better qualified to select players than RTB and match committee?
Just curious, do you think Ross has ever made a mistake?

And you missed my post earlier.

If Subes is such a good player why did Ross make him the sub for our two most important games of last season? Could it be that he is a fringe player after 8 seasons of football?

I really like Ethan first taste freo home match as a WA player. If he got a fyfe like performance I don't really care about suban at all.

Better qualified? No. But unlike them I don't have favourites.

Saying RTB has lost the plot/not man for the rebuild and all that crap is pretty rough just cause he dropped 1 youth.

An exp player is prob needed this week, though frustrating Suban can be, he will add some toughness.

We should be happy that 4 spots seems to be guaranteed to youth this year. We still get to see Weller, Blakely, Pearce Hughes do their thing. Weller & Pearce have locked in their spots for now, let's see if the other 2 can do the same with guys like Langdon/DeBoer/Grey/Mzungu/Clancee/Tucker knocking down the door.

In my view the 4 most talented young players in the squad in A Pearce, Weller, Blakely and Hughes are getting a game this week. This means I am happy, you can't have all the young players in at the same time because that results in 100 point floggings. But I do get the angst about Suban being picked and Grey being dropped (Grey has got to find a way to steady before he kicks though).

I genuinely hope that those 4 young kids along with our stars start to form the basis of another exciting team.

Sigh, that article p!ss3d me off…and it doesn't look into it in depth. Maybe now we can start playing other guys and take the loss but that wasn’t the equation at the start of the year, we wanted to be competitive and play our best team…… OK lets look at it this way…mt 2 c

The other teams with a higher average age are North (~27 ave age), Hawks (~26), eagles(~26), North(~26), Ess(~26)*, Geelong(~26) and Syd(~25). Aside from Ess, they’re all in premiership contention, as we thought we were!! (we have 26.1 ave age)

Ok break it down:
  • We have 8 players who are 30+ and they’ve all played this year: Sandi, Pav, Dawson, Johnson, Mundy, D Pearce, Griff and Muz
At the start of the year, only Muz or maybe griff as well, would be the only players you’d expect NOT to be best 22 for the first 6 games of the year if everyone was fit… So the article is saying we should have not played these guys in the first 6 games, or in years prior when we were shaking the top for a flag?……? Pft. Maybe now we could drop them maybe…but that’s unless we want to be screwed for the rest of the year. These older guys are mostly leagues better than our young guns and when you’re in contention like we were, you play your best team
  • Ok next tier. 29 yo: Ballaz, barlow, Spurr and Silvangi.
First three are bang lock B22 and once again you’d be a moron to think about dropping them at the start of the year. Now that we suddenly suck we can throw these guys away and put in young guns so they ‘learn’ while we get pummelled….that’s not a great way to go about it… I would saw swap one young gun for one of these 3 players on a rotational basis. Ballaz and Barlow have been especially on the cusp of it.
  • Next tier: 28 yo: Ibbo and Mayne.
Ibbo has been dropped and Mayne practises voodoo but should be dropped.

Everyone else is 27yo or less….We do have a few 30+ but again unless we want to be the GWS of 4 years ago, we can’t suddenly play only kids who are not better than our fridge players so we get constantly pummeled. Hawks kids are good because they grow up in a winning healthy system (box hill hawks are awesome). So when they get into AFL they have a TON of confidence. I don’t think replacing Freo with Peel will do anything for development.
