I don't get this Petrie shit - he had 15 disposals and 11 hitouts in his first game back.

McInnes averaged 17.8 disposals and 20 hitouts over 7 games before he got a call up.

I know that we all want to make wholesale changes after a shit performance but if we're genuine, we can't drop a guy who played well for nearly 2 months and didn't get disgraced today, for a guy who's lacking match fitness and didn't light up the reserves.

If we play favourites to such a degree, I'll lose all faith in the selection committee.
Absolutely agree

I don't think Petrie played that well and, yes, I saw the press conference but Simpson answered a question about Petrie, he didn't bring Drew up.

Having said that, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that Simpson wants Petrie in the team at any cost. Mates for a 10+ years and all that.
Petrie contests and is physical. he gets a game on that alone over 18-20 that played yesterday

We'll have at least a couple of changes. Steve Johnson won't travel and Lobb is out. More than likely we'll have two more debutants.

They have never come within ten goals of us at Subi and thus will be battling demons all game. Factor in their extensive injury list and they are ripe for a flat tracking.
Love it we need to do a full flat track at home on some one this year. Have a reputation to uphold

I think it was a reasonable choice to let Nelson play a WAFL game, same as for Petrie and same as should have been done for Cripps. They should have been given a run in the WAFL while the team travelled and then maybe bought back against GWS at home giving some older players a rest.

I feel sorry for the defenders in that game, the midfield was a major problem. Also don't get the Lecras to be dropped calls. The bloke was helping out in the middle, tackled hard, got a few clearances, always gives his all going for a smother and manning the mark which many players won't. He missed 3 shots from quite comfortable spots and that's his biggest worry, but if you're looking for intent, he and Darling both showed that yesterday.

Just like a few people have said, we cannot over react, yes its frustrating that we play like that interstate but here are some facts.

Every team have had some very poor games,

look at Adelaide, had 2 shockers in a row against North and Melbourne at home
Geelong had 3 poor performances in a row against Gold Coast, Collingwood and Essendon, all teams outside the 8
GWS got smashed in Round 1 in Adelaide
Richmond 5-4 after starting 5-0
Melbourne upset of the year in Adelaide followed by a poor effort in a loss against North Melbourne.
Freo had 2 poor losses to start the season
Sydney and Hawthorn are 3-6

We are 6-3 and in the top 4, we are no where playing near our best. We have got wins against Port and st Kilda when we got dominated, we have won games when we havent played well. I agree with some of the changes

Bring in Nelson, Partington averaging 28 touches a game, deserves a shot. Hutchings 30 touches since he went back to EP. I think 3 changes is suffice, maybe 4 with Petrie for Mcinnis lets face it, mcinnis wont be on list next year he is just cover for this years injures.

Genuine interstate ladder, excludes home teams who have sold home games interstate eg Hawthorn in Tassie, GWS in Canberra, North in Tassie. Funny thing is we sit mid table, Freo are 2/3 but have only played 3 interstate games.

I am sick of saying we cant play interstate but funny thing some teams have only played 1 genuine interstate game which is infuriating.

Let's give Redden back to Brisbane .

If Brisbane can pay for his plane ticket back over that will be enough compensation.

Why do we keep playing a Vanilla undamaging inside cow that can't find the ball.

Fair enough if you rack up the ball and be damaging in a thousand cuts kind of way.

But he doesn't provide anything other than a smother or tackle here and there.

Give Partingon a run at least he might find the ball.....

This feels similar to the time we were playing 3 rucks (Nic Nat/Cox/Lycett). Big names and don't want to drop to piss anyone off...

We're playing super slow inside mids who can't match up on fast teams. Priddis, Mitchell, Redden & Mutimer.
Pridda has dropped off big time this year and I strongly believe it would be wise to drop him given we have Mitchell.
Although Pridda is better than Redden, Redden is younger so needs to stay in ahead of Pridda.
Mutimer can stay in for development reasons but needs to play in the guts.

Our wingers aren't particularly fast either.
Once we lose possession/stoppages against a fast side like Essendon, we have no chance in hell of getting it back unless the opposition fumbles.
Chop and change all you want because it won't make a difference against fast sides as we do not have fast sprinters.
Dogs and Port do not have speedster mids so our wins on the narrower grounds masked the issue a little.
Just hope that sides like Essendon & Adelaide don't play us in the finals.

Its not the fact that we lose its the fact that we lose so poorly is the issue. This team is incapable of absorbing pressure when there is a momentum shift. We have absolutely no on field leaders ala J Selwood that are willing put their hand up and change the course of a game. The difference between our best and our worst is what most people are concerned about. We are an average team at best.

Agree completely, why Nelson was not played is beyond me
At least when he plays, he plays with a bit of heart and has that but of mongrel in him that hates to lose. Going on yesterday's result I can only come to the conclusion we have too many players who don't give a **** !!

Exactly. Couldnt have said it better myself.

Out: Redden, Priddis, Lecras, Large Fraser (if Mumford doesn't have any MRP issues)

In: Nelson, Hutchings, Karpany/Lamb, Giles (If Mummy is playing)

I feel like Fraser is a chance to get it in the neck for Petrie regardless though so we shall see. Personally I would prefer to see Petrie at EP for another week.

Shuey has to go on ball for more minutes. Sub-optimal use of his skill set but better than him having to hide down in a forward pocket (wtf Simmo?)

The fear of not winning the ball would be there but let's be honest, we didn't win the footy yesterday either. At least if we give minutes around the ball to Mute, Duggan, Nelson, Sheed we start to see whether or not they are going to be able to play there long term.

I have a sinking feeling in my gut that all we are going to see is Out: McInnes, Mutimer. In: Petrie, Hutchings

Dunnop Simmo seemed pretty angry after the game and said some changes will needed so i bet he will make about 4-5 changes.

1) Barrass out for one of Schofield/McKenzie. Its all very well being a good intercept marker when the footy is coming in haphazard... but he's been hopeless one on one this past three weeks when standing a key forward. We have too much KPD talent on the bench to continue with him the way he's playing.

2) Redden out for Hutchings. No brainer really at least Hutchings shows up to play most games.

3) McKinnes out for Petrie. Our centre square set up and big man presence around the ground is a horror show. We need a big body who can at least halve ruck contests, can at least mongrel the opposition big men and take the odd grab.

4) Mutmer out for Partington. Just isn't impacting the game enough and time to reward the in-form player

5) Nelson in for Butler. FFS anything to give us some drive

6) Hill in for Cripps - whoever TF thought Cripps is good enough to come in on one leg after a month out of footy should be force-marched out of the match committee.

6) Would like to put Priddis into this equation but I cant see a replacement.
7) Would like to see Lamb in this equation but don't see who he replaces
8) One game in the WAFL for Willy then straight in for christ knows who (who cares anyone)

IMO
These are the players pushing for selection from beneath from EP .

Nelson
Partington
Lamb

Hutch is playing well but he adds to the slow midfield problem.

A bit out there but I have been impressed with Lamb's efforts and production for EP this last month and it's worth giving him another taste of Senior football. Let's be honest we need to see if he can cut the mustard before seasons end otherwise he is either off the list because he is traded home home or is a list causality.
Simpson needs to reward effort and production at EP.

Partington given his body of production this season at EP must be helping his cause to debut .

As for Nelson he should be an automatic inclusion this week as he is one of the few on our list with heart and agro and doesn't mind the physical side of the game.
Also has pace and takes the game on.
Going forward he offers so much more than Butler.

F*** the game on the weekend was dissappointing, hard not to be dispondent .

I am struggling on many of the proposed changes. The key to us losing on Sunday was lack of leadership, lack of intent and a badly beaten midfield. Yet reading many of the posts - the majority of the changes proposed appear to address our defence and attack.

There are some changes needed - some mindset and some have to be at the selection table.

Position changes and mental issues
Hurn and the leadership team - what is being delivered is second rate. I would take the team away for a half day and get someone externally to engage them. They need their leadership efforts questioned as they do not step up when required.
Barrass - strict instructions to forget about being a Marks Brother this week - he has to kill the contest when he is not in a powerful position to mark. He should be given the job on Patton (remember Schofield and Mackenzie in the JLT game) and cannot be beaten in the marking contest like the last month because spoiling is a great option.
Yeo - he does not deliver as a midfielder. Back to defence young man. I would like to see him play on Cameron.
Duggan - He is not cutting it as a midfielder or a forward and needs to go into defence and play on Toby Green. Give him a specific role
Priddis to be named starting on the bench with Dom taking the role as centreman. Tell Priddis he is starting to look like depth and not an automatic
Gaff to the half forward and inside role with Masten as the other winger to be hard on Scully, Kelly or Whitfield

Selection changes
Wellingham out for Nelson - possibly injured but Wellers has been awful and his production is way down (I suspect some niggles but he is mentally soft)
McInnes out for Petrie - not so much on form but on the Mummy factor and need to have a greater physical presence
Redden out for Partington - we need more speed and more intent
Butler out for Lamb - we have enough defenders and I would play Tommy on the wing. We need his speed and endurance against Scully, Kelly and Whitfield

I was tempted to do something with Darling and Hill but 4 changes are probably enough.

Pity Willie is not right and from what I have seen we need to wait another 3 - 4 weeks with Venables

Simpson doesn't drop senior players though, they're either "rested" or "sore". Can't treat this bunch of softies too harshly now, you might hurt their feelings.

Yeah that is why we need Jetta in the team. At least he provides Simpson with a ready made dropping option in case we loose. If you recall, Simpson responded to the very bad round 2 loss against Hawks last year by dropping Jamie Bennell who played as small forward. He was recruited as a small defender but they turn him in to small forward that preseason. Now Bennell may not have worked but he never played for WCE again.
