I'm going off Keys WAFL reports, and he's usually right with this sort of stuff. If you want further clarification ask him.

Fair enough, thanks for clarifying.

I don't think a complete rebuild of the midfield is necessary, which will probably leave us in the gutter for 5+ years, but some big changes wouldn't hurt.

Nice deflect.
You can't expect new kids to be good at disposal while excusing it in senior players.

Doesn't work like that.

Was hoping that Redden would at least show a bit and stay in the team. But after his last few efforts and his 'game' today just has to go. Same with Priddis , been a good club servant but its time to go.

Our backline worries me to. We have some great intercept markers when the opposition has time they can spot up targets we play too far off of their opponents.

Out: Reddan Priddis Barass Butler LeCras
In: Partington Hill Schofield Nelson Lamb

They have never come within ten goals of us at Subi and thus will be battling demons all game. Factor in their extensive injury list and they are ripe for a flat tracking.

Hell just froze over and ep has the most positive thing to say

Moose where have you been? I haven't seen you since the Hawthorn game.

It's like you only post when we lose...

Care factor is definitely down but mostly a combination of working during a few games and having a broken laptop meaning I can't post and watch live on game day. Glad to see you've missed me, what do you think these big changes at the selection table will be Simpson talked about in the presser?

Contrary to the your opinion I'm mostly an optimist about our side, would disagree with the coach. Don't think we're a crap team just think we have a few crap players in the 22 dragging the side down the their level. 40 plus on the list though I never rule out our fortunes changing when blokes outside the cool group get given a chance.

OUT - McInnes , Butler , Mutimer , Cripps

IN - Petrie , Nelson , Partington , Hill

Edit
Mummy could cause some problems so Giles might be an inclusion , Vardy and Petrie no chance rucking against Mummy .

Out; Redden, Butler, Cripps
In; Partington, Nelson, Karpany

Thought McInnes was one of the few who actually tried today. A lot more mobile than bringing Petrie in.

Seriously **** Redden off, he is hopeless.

Bringing Hutchings in would be akin to shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Time to see how Partington goes.

If the coach wishes to make big changes then Hutchings and Partington might both come into the side with Redden / Mutimer / Masten in the shake up to miss out , but agree Partington should be given preference .

Need to strike a balance between rewarding form, dropping under performers and not bringing in too much inexperience in one hit

East Perth have a bye next week so selection for the Giants match should be done with an eye on Gold Coast the following week as the players brought in should be given two games to prove themselves

Hutchings has been in solid form and is a known quantity who shapes as a replacement for Redden

Jetta had a decent game yesterday but I'm not convinced he's found his best form or done enough as a body of work to earn a recall

Partington has been our most consistent WAFL mid so should be in discussions at least but only if he gets played in his correct position which is on ball. Not convinced he's ready for that

Lamb should get a go. Has had solid WAFL form, can play wing or forward, isn't slow, has a fairly mature body, runs all day and there's a bit of now or never with him. Might as well have a look at him in the big league

Karpany has been knocking on the door and perhaps deserves a chance

Giles hasn't been great in his last two WAFL games but at least has the body size to not be pushed around by Mumford. Would prefer Petrie though because he's a more competitive beast and can offer something up forward

May need a third KPD to combat the Giants talls so Schofield or Mackenzie take your pick as its a choice between the greater mobility of Schoey and the better 1v1 ability of easy

Nelson comes in after getting through his WAFL game untroubled

Presumably Hill was dropped for a reason so I don't see the logic in bringing him straight back in. Should have played him instead of Cripps today imo but Cripps has had his game back and it makes no sense now to go back on that

Venables isn't ready for AFL

My view right now is

Hutchings for Redden
Petrie for Mcinness
Karpany for Mutimer
Nelson for Butler
Lamb for your choice of whipping boy (Darling, Masten, lecras or Duggan )
Not sure who Schofield or Mackenzie would come in for

Simpson in his press conference bemoaned the poor performance of our leaders so that criticism rings hollow if one or more of them aren't dropped

Today was a setback after 3 weeks of solid form so that needs to be factored in

Need to win this and the Gold Coast game which would mean 8-3 at the bye which would be a good effort

Honestly, Hutchings in is just more of the same. I'm not missing him one bit.

Don't disagree, too many similar types that are interchangeable as far as structures go and we've got structural problems at the moment. Contested stuff has been really poor every second week and we're moving the ball poorly a lot of the time throughout games. We can't to much to rectify that until the off season though, we don't have the cattle as it stands. Hutchings usually brings quality effort to stoppages which is what we lacked in that second term.

We should be looking to blood Partington, Karpany, Venables and Rioli by seasons end. Plus give Mutimer a chance to play midfield if he earns that spot on WAFL form.

Out Redden, absolute spud. He had no excuse this year after a full pre-season with the mids.

In Partington

Hutchings -> Redden
Hutchings is one paced and lacks hurt factor but he at least plays his role and his endeavour can't be questioned. For mine, the Redden experiment has to be coming to an end soon.

Lamb -> Darling
I'm not a huge fan of Lamb but Darling has well and truly used up all of his credits. Lamb's form has lifted of late and structurally he is the best fit to replace Darling as a second tall. Neither are great forwards but Lamb would at least offer something around the ground.

Karpany -> Mutimer
Mutimer has some ability but his output currently doesn't justify his selection for a fifth week in a row. He'll be better for the experience though and should return to East Perth well equipped to play to a high standard. Karpany deserves a run and to some extent we need to be trying out the depth of this list before some reasonable turnover this offseason. We could probably use Karpany's skill and poise in traffic.

Petrie -> McInnes
Fmac is probably unlucky to miss out, he actually looks good with the ball in hand but Petrie just offers more as that second ruck.

Nelson -> Butler
Nelson has played well all season and needs to be included. Butler is stronger defensively but can be a slight liability with the ball in hand when he slows up play. He hasn't been bad but is the obvious choice to go for Nelson.

In other words, I largely agree with Keys.

The first 3 I like. Hutchings is too slow.
Disagree, Hutchings isn't real quick but it doesn't make him slow plus he has a dip, can kick goals, tag and compete for both inside and outside ball. We have players who wouldn't run our of sight on a dark night and Hutchings would have twice their pace plus more skill.

Is Lecras just popular to hate or is it because people expect him to kick 4 every week?

I think he shat all over Cripps and Mutimer and he's better than Hill as well. He ****** up in missing 3 gettable shots, to me that was his biggest crime today, much the same as Darling. Cripps was a shit inclusion.
Some people just can't see the Forrest etc.

I'd like to see Lamb get a crack. I know it sounds like I'm being "that one guy who suggests we add Lamb each week" but there are proper reasons.

  1. Darling has been routinely failing to live up to anyone's expectations, unless they are happy with the odd goal or two a game, elementary misses during crucial moments of games, the typical fling back of the head and softness in the contest?
  2. Lecras is yet another who should be thankful we have no decent small forward or damaging HFF depth. Everyone knows his performances away from home are terrible 'most' of the time. The man needs to be made accountable.
  3. Hill has been dropped, undeservedly IMO. Cripps is clearly underdone as he had next to no impact today.
  4. Our forward line is lacking a spark and Rioli is still weeks off. When was the last time we flat tracked? Does anyone even remember?

Meanwhile Lamb has been improving in the WAFL, hitting the scoreboard and generally getting involved. From Keysers reports his attitude seems to be a positive as well lately.

Bottom line is he's on his last legs at the club (hopefully we retain him for next year) and i honestly cannot see anything wrong with the idea of giving him a go after such an absolute dismal performance. OR we can just rock in week out with the same under performing team and be found out again whenever we have to head to Melbourne.

What's there to lose? The kids in his 3rd year, his future is unclear and he's obviously passionate about his footy :fire:
Agree with most of your points but I think you are harsh on Darling and Le Cras. We were all happy that Le Cras was being played closer to goals and he was kicking more goals as a result. Now however, he is back playing midfield to make up for the plodders jogging around waiting for a ball up...result is less goals from him. He has never been your classic small crumbed but is good around the goals and takes a good defender out of play. Darling missed a couple of shots but worked his arse off from the backline to the forward line without him Kennedy wouldn't have the same opportunities. He would have had 1 more goal if bloody Priddis, under no pressure, hadn't kicked the ball to the boundary rather than to Darling's advantage when he was free. As a result, Darling had to run to the boundary pocket to get the ball and then get past 2 defenders to try and goal. Priddis in the meantime, made no attempt to continue on running and help fix the mess he created but the guy who pressured him was able to run on and put pressure on Darlng.

Out
mcinnis - just not a good enough ruck against mummy
wellingham - 0 ******* tackles ! you did **** all again and soft to boot
Redden - too slow , doesn't find the ball and poor disposal when he gets it .
Darling - 1 goal 5 - send a msg that no one is safe . if their going to double team JK he needs to stand up .

In
Giles - to combat mummy and give our shit midfield a chance

nelson - comes in for wellingham - nelly gives a shit wellingham doesn't

Partington - 32 touches and 6 tackles in wafl , plays hff/mid in Mutimer's role . Muts to play on ball

lamb - comes in for darling and we play 3 prong tall forwards , Jk lamb and vardy
Giles is a lumbering slow ruckman who doesn't take a mark. Mummy will kill him. Wellingham earns his spot but much as I have been a Butler fan and defended him in recent years when others have called for his head, he just seems to be a little slower, undecided and inflexible now so Nelson for him. I'd bring Lamb in for Murtimer or Cripps although I've always thought Hill delivers a lot more forward line pressure than he is given credit for and I think we would have been slightly more competitive if he had played.

If this happens please make it Schofield and not Mackenzie.

I'd be keeping Tom in myself.

Yeah I'd keep him in too as I think it's our slow mids that are causing half the problem as they're not putting any pressure on the ball carrier delivering to the opposition forwards.
