I think people wondering why Partington isn't an emergency should remember he's only 1 game back from injury. He can still become something useful. Midfielders can take a few preseasons, and it's fine to have plenty of guys ahead of him. I wanna watch his progress for at least till next season before we start saying he's on the outer or not. I don't think many had him ahead of Venables / Waterman / Rioli / Ryan / and now Ainsworth and Ah Chee based on preseason. And then compound that with his injury and I say it's fine. He just needs to put his head down, work on his game, and put that work ethic into consistent performances for us at WAFL this season. If he does that, he'll get some games this year when we need him. Rushing him in with an injury cloud is garbage.

We have only one mid out and two mids in so my guess is they didn’t feel the need to pick another mid as emergency (Partington).

They may have picked Bayok and Rotham to give them the first time experience of traveling with the side or there could even be a doubt on a forward or back.

At the risk of jinxing it, I really like these changes.

Shows that Simmo and the selection committee are happy to back those performing in WAFL and the youngsters and keep rewarding those in form.

The three ins are just about spot on imo.

That being said, I expect the 'drop Masten' haters to come out of the woodwork if we lose this weekend.

Iam pretty sure we are going to see 4 debutants on the weekend

I have heard mail Rotham is likely to play now and Tarir also.

Rotham parents are now flying over for the game

So looks like Barrass will get Cameron and Rotham on Himleberg

Amazing so many debutantes

Surely Schofield > Rotham?

We are going to get pumped, but I’m not even mad. 7 competitive efforts in a row, we’re due an off game whereas GWS have just had theirs. Looking forward to the two debutantes but I think the loss of two of our absolute gun players & onfield leaders is too much to cover for.

Still very optimistic about 2018 and reckon we will knock off the Tigers the week after, but absolutely not expectating a win this week.

Sounds like McGovern is out. Didn't get on the plane with the team. I suppose he may fly later but not looking good.

IIRC Gov played rubbish the last time he chose a later flight. Just remember thinking that it clearly didn't work in his favour.

I think Sheppard matches up quite well on Cameron, who is more of a running kpf. I think Barrass is better suited to Keeffe/Lobb.

If Rotham comes in for McGovern, who is Tarir coming in for?

Reckon it was a time to debut brander and watson....

We have no hope of winning might as well pump some games into brander and francis watson

Probably realised the AFL is pushing for a GWS win so we might as well throw the kids in.

If we manage to do it without NN, Shuey and McGovern it will be one of the all time famous victories.

I must admit this is

a very different approach from the old Simmo. I am always happy to see new kids play, we've had 6 so far. Just Imagine we beat both Giants and tigers with our injury list.

When a team is on 6-1 and winning 6 in a row streak, clearly it is a team effort rather than just few individuals. It is tough w/o those boys but i would not say its a slam dunk for giants. They haven't set the world on fire, so I'd say its 50-50. If we win, we should be in contention for top 4.

Not just kids for the sake of it (I'd rather we don't do a Melbourne), but kids that earnt it. Ainsworth earnt it, McInnes earnt it (although of course it depended on NN's verdict) and Ah Chee deserves a shot in spite of limited game time.

As long as the boys put in 100% effort I actually wouldn't be too fussed with an honourable loss. Hopefully we can surprise, obviously...

We have 6-8 of our best 22 out, so a third of the team out, yet we still look quite strong on paper. Surprising isn't it? If we can get up for a win here, it's going to be a huge boost for the players and the club. I still think we can do it. Bring it on!

I still think we can win, GWS have not been in crazy good form. We can do this

Going to be a tough game, especially when you can't tackle...

Annoyed so many guns out but sort of excited to see Ah chee and Ainsworth.

Really worried that we named Bayok as an emergency. What happens if he plays and some big powerful 110kg bloke lays him a dangerous tackle? He is only 72 Kg.

Next season 2019 AFL is changing to TOUCH AFL. Tackling is gone if you tackle automatic suspension. If you touch with both hands free kick.
