Here is roughly how id like the team to shape up this weekend assuming all of our injured players dont come up this week.
B: Hine, May, Brown
HB: Stanley, Warnock, Harbrow
C: Brennan, Bennell, McKenzie
HF, Patrick, Lynch, Caddy
F, Matera, Dixon, A.Hall
Foll:Ablett, Horsley, Hickey
Int: Iles, Weller, Shaw, Flanagan?
Mckenzie out of the backline, want to see him given a more attacking role, dosent look comfortable down back but has had to play there because of our never ending injuries.
Brennan to play on the wing and as a loose man across half back.
Brown back down back, has played his best games for us back there.
Patrick to play a full game, has been improving rapidly, he looks like he is ready to have breakout game.
Hall, Horsely and Iles all want to prove they are in the suns best 22 and would be salivating at the opportunity they are going to get this weekend.
Expect them to come out firing.
Do not think Isles will play this week he seems to be another injured player. If Stanley can get up I would swap him with Brown. Put Brown down back and Stanley up forward or through the midfield. Everyone seems to forget he was our leading goal kicker last year and has not had the luxury of playing there this year. Much more damaging than Brown up forward.Oh, I'm certainly not faulting Harbrow. I think he's been fantastic for us. I just think he's better for us when playing a bit further down from the ground. Seemed to be more of a midfielder against the Dees. Popping up every now and then to deliver into the forward 50 is also a bonus.
Just need guys like Harbrow or Brown delivering it into the forward 50, rather than the kids who tend to just smash it in.
INJURY-RAVAGED Gold Coast will enter Saturday's virtual wooden spoon match against Greater Western Sydney with a revamped team.
Coach Guy McKenna confirmed on Monday at least five players would be missing the battle with the Giants after sustaining injuries in Sunday's 42-point loss against Melbourne.
Dion Prestia (hamstring), Michael Rischitelli (knee), Karmichael Hunt (shoulder), Zac Smith (ankle) and Luke Russell (shoulder) will all be unavailable.
David Swallow (knee) and Sam Day (foot) are also in huge doubt.
"To lose seven players in any round … you lose almost a third of your side," McKenna said.
"It's just one of those years we've had … one of those trying years, but again I think that's only going to make us stronger quicker and sooner, and it's going to make us stronger for longer.
"It's an opportunity for some blokes to play for their careers and play for the jumper and play for our first win at Metricon Stadium."
Following its 27-point win over Port Adelaide on Saturday, GWS (2-17) has jumped the Suns (1-18) on the ladder.
The Giants drew first blood when the expansion teams met in round seven at Manuka Oval and McKenna said that loss still hurt.
"I think the boys would have been naturally stung by the game and so they should have been," he said.
"It's an opportunity for us, we've got two now for the rest of the season to win a game at Metricon, this game and Carlton (round 22).
"[We're] Looking forward to making sure we reward the members for their patience and support.
"We give ourselves every opportunity [to win]."
One positive McKenna took from the loss against Melbourne was the 38-disposal, four-goal performance of second-year sensation Harley Bennell.
Along with captain Gary Ablett (33 disposals), the pair dragged the Suns to respectability almost entirely on their own.
"We're under no illusions how tough the game is going to be," McKenna said.
"We've got to play a consistent brand of football for four quarters and on the weekend we didn't do that.
"When we've been able to do that, we've given ourselves a chance to win. You give a side a seven-goal head start, it's very hard to peg back. We can't give GWS any sniff of victory early in the game, we've got to make sue we come out hard and fast and strong and set the tone from the first bounce."
Realistically, this is our grand final. We win this, and we dont get the spoon! After this dont really care about the rest of the year. Put all injured players on ice for the rest of the year and give the other players who haven't even debuted a game after this weekend as far as I'm concerned.
It seemed like just "business as usual". The feeling seemed to be that they battled on quite well for the last 3 quarters, with fewer & fewer fit players available. The breeze at the MCG is a bit swirly, due to the big grandstands all around, so it was good for them to get experience with it. After a shaky start, Melbourne kicked very well, but they are used to those conditions. How did the boys respond, Pizza? Obviously they would have been down but was there any hope or good feelings about this week? I hope they can get themselves up for this game. But if they're really really low on morale it could be difficult.
Hope Lynch recovers well! Need him at full strength and kicking goals if we want to win.
No point bringing him in? I'll concede that Nicholls has been good in the ruck for the 2's but Fraiser's been the pick of the bunch when it comes to Forwards and goal kicking, With Day going down and playing such a young side an experienced forward with height and strength is what we need to put some forward pressure on.There's no point bringing Fraser in. Hickey & Nicholls can both come in to share the ruckwork.
I spoke to Prestia after the Melbourne game & he expected to miss a couple of games. Lynch was sick during the week & that seemed to affect him. He seemed weaker than usual.
Bluey was proud of the way Day went into the ruck, even though he had a foot injury. He took some centre bounces, because Dixon had his lower leg strapped & seemed to aggravate it, when he jumped.
Hunt was injured in the first 2 minutes, so showed a lot of guts to play for so long. Rischitelli also hurt his knee towards the end of the first quarter.
As General Custer said at Little Big Horn, "You can expect an entirely different side out there next week".
