wow thats massive, no wonder you guys lost to the Demons.

Any AFL club that loses that many players would lose to any fit club.

It begs the question then if GWS cannot beat you with you guys missing so many players, then just how bad is the Power for them to beaten by GWS then????

Ha, that question would go begging I'm sure.

I'd suggest that the club needs to throw everything it has at its disposal at winning this game. Treat it like it is the last game of the season, because if they go down, another cooking utensil will surely be decorating the trophy cabinet. GWS can relax knowing that even if they loose this, they would have a chance against Melbourne at Manuka. The players can give everything they have for this game, and if it comes down to it, limp out the rest of the season.

Hopefully if all the players on the ground are fit at least, they'd stand a good chance to get a win. A number of players clearly were only 50% fit at best in the Melbourne game, so that certainly didn't help things.

I would probably consider Tape and Thompson as being in the best 22 as well who are on the injury list.

I agree with everything you've said. I can only hope the Coaches do too.

Tape and Thompson I agree with, but we can cover them more easily than Swallow/Prestia/Rischitelli etc. Thompson with May/Dixon. Tape with McKenzie, though that's not proving to be too successful right now.

This is our grand final, I cant stress how much I do NOT want another wooden spoon. Will be going to see the open training on friday (assuming its on), will bring my kit just incase they need me :D

By the way, I think Dixon > Thompson in defence. Would prefer that to stay that way going into 2013 and onwards at this stage.

It may be 17th against 18th, but the eyes of the AFL world will be squarely fixed on Metricon Stadium for many reasons on Saturday afternoon. Not only does the winner gain bragging rights among the competition's two expansion teams, but they will almost certainly avoid the wooden spoon in the process. But there is also a prize for the loser, with a last place finish guaranteeing the top pick in November's AFL National Draft. The Giants are coming off a win against Port Adelaide and the Suns have been smashed with injuries to key players. Who wants to win more?

THE FOUR POINTS
GOLD COAST

1. For so many reasons, the Suns simply can't afford to lose. With a team decimated by injury (Zac Smith, Michael Rischitelli, Karmichael Hunt and Dion Prestia among them), they have a ready-made excuse. However, after losing to the Giants once already this year, not winning a game at Metricon in 17 attempts and staring down the barrel of a second straight wooden spoon, the club and its supporters need something to hang their hat on heading towards 2013.

2. If it weren't so serious, the Suns' injury list would almost be laughable. Aside from the above-mentioned players they are also missing regulars Nathan Bock, Seb Tape, Rory Thompson, Sam Day and Luke Russell. It's an opportunity for more inexperienced players to get a crack and stand up, but the onus really falls on a thinning 'senior' base including Gary Ablett, Jared Brennan, Campbell Brown, Harley Bennell and Josh Caddy.

3. In a season that has yielded just one win and a raft of player changes through form and injury, one teenage Sun has stood tall. Harley Bennell has more than justified his number two draft tag this year, and last week's 38-disposal, four-goal performance against Melbourne was another example of his limitless talent. On the park at the same time as the best 18- and 19-year-olds in the country, watch for the West Australian to again show his class.

4. Opposition recruiters will be all over this match like bees to a honey pot. Both teams have to cull their lists at the end of the season, ensuring a number of youngsters on display are not only playing for futures at their current clubs, but potentially being eyed off as trade bait. The Suns have to cut eight players this season, ensuring they'll all be out to put their best foot forward.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

1. Accused of tanking leading up to the game against Port Adelaide, GWS put that to bed with a stirring 34-point win. Now the newcomers are chasing more victories before the season is out. Kevin Sheedy cheekily pointed out his club is undefeated against the Suns, following its win in round seven, a record he wants to continue.

2. The Giants picked up NAB Rising Star nomination number seven this week in Devon Smith, extending their own AFL record. It has been suggested the Giants' talent level could be superior to Gold Coast and they have some youngsters the envy of many clubs. The other nominees - Jeremy Cameron, Tom Bugg, Steve Coniglio, Dylan Shiel and Toby Greene - could all be on display alongside Smith at Metricon Stadium.

3. How will GWS attempt to quell the influence of Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett? Sheedy has been more than prepared to give some of his fledgling players some big jobs this year and will likely do the same on Saturday afternoon. Greene, Treloar or Tom Scully could be given the almighty task.

4. Will the Giants be able to kick enough goals to potentially win a second straight game? Scoring has been a huge issue for the Giants, with a lack of forward entries leading to some small totals throughout the year. They did manage to bring up 100 points for the first time against Port, but they will need the likes of Jeremy Cameron, Jonathon Patton and Jonathan Giles to provide plenty of goals on the Gold Coast.

AFL.com.au prediction: Gold Coast by 15 points

Biggest thing I take out of this is, the Giants have only kicked over 100 points once and that was last week? Didn't realise that! Hopefully Bluey shows the Sheedy vision of saying "we're still undefeated against the Suns". If they can't get fired up for this game, I'll be livid. May as well forfeit the rest of the year and just start doing the surgeries and get on their mad monday.

Could you provide a link for the "4 Points"?

Danny Stanley also possibly out with an injured hamstring. Why he was a late withdrawal last week. Will wait for official word from the Suns Injury list, but again, not a good thing. I buzzed up Mike Whiting, who will get back to us later hopefully.

Apparently Stanley took himself out of the team last week , had a tight groin.

No Risks on Swallow
GOLD Coast will not risk young midfield star David Swallow against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday unless he's close to 100 per cent fit.

Swallow hurt his knee in Sunday's loss against Melbourne and is racing the clock to be available for this weekend's wooden spoon battle at Metricon Stadium.

The Suns will already have regulars Michael Rischitelli, Zac Smith, Karmichael Hunt, Dion Prestia, Sam Day and Luke Russell missing with injury.

They have 34 listed players to choose from against the Giants - most of who have fewer than 30 games experience.

Assistant coach Andy Lovell said despite this and the significance of the match, Swallow's long-term future would not be compromised.

"If he gets through training today and Friday we'd expect him to come up," Lovell said on Wednesday morning.

"We need to make sure if he does play he's as close to 100 per cent fit as he can be because we certainly don't want to put him at risk long-term.

"You can't predict with impact injuries when they're going to come and in what shape and form they're going to come in.

"We're not going to put him out there and expose him to any adverse risk."

Swallow has been dogged by a knee injury for most of the season.

He hobbled around against Fremantle in round six, but still kicked three goals as a full-forward, and started against GWS the following week only to be subbed out in the first half.

The former No.1 NAB AFL Draft pick then missed seven matches before returning against Richmond in round 16.

Swallow is undoubtedly one of the Suns' toughest and most resilient players.

Lovell said the significance of playing GWS and trying to avoid the Suns' second wooden spoon in two years would have no influence on deciding whether he would play or not.

"Fear of failure against this mob doesn't drive us," he said.

"We've got our own focuses long and short term and they're the things we'll stick strong to. We wouldn't put one of our most talented young players at risk to win one game of footy."

The likes of Kyal Horsley, Steven May and Aaron Hall are all expected to be among a host of forced inclusions.

"We'll still field a really strong, competitive team," Lovell said.

"Some of them are playing for their careers, no doubt, that's the nature of the business and the nature of the industry.

"It's an opportunity for us and we haven't had too many opportunities thus far to play in winnable games. We see it as an opportunity to win and that's the way we're approaching it."
Theres 2 schools of thought which is the one above, don't risk our biggest assets. Or put up with the pain, try get some pride and respect. Get our first win at Metricon for the club, the players and staff, the supporters and members. I'm of the latter, and Dave can just ice up for the rest of the year after this game, or get surgery if required etc...

Hopefully going to training session on Friday morning, see how he goes.

Ugh, we've been hit with injuries too after today's update. Only expected to see Patton possibly out after injuring his shoulder.

Ward (onset of OP, out 2-4), Greene (groin, 1-2), Patton (shoulder, listed as season), Frost (hips, season) Adams test, Mohr was expected back but his year's done, Shiel's timeline stagnant at 1-2 weeks with a foot injury.

This makes me a little more confident but it will still be a massive task for the boys to get up with the number of injuries we have. How many players are we expecting to make their debut? Is Flanagan still a possibility?

I will most likely be attending this game. Should be a great game, but I personally want GWS to win and GC to save their first home win for Carlton (I originally typed Carltank unintentionally. I need to stop going into the Bay).

Its no secret. You have been trolling us like a 12 year old on every other board ;)

I've been trolling Carlton more lately, you guys and Port are no fun. Port fans resort to personal attacks (I thought they would mention 2004) and you guys don't even retaliate.

In all seriousness though I wanted the Demons (out of the bottom 3 clubs) to win the spoon, but seeing they beat you guys on Sunday it won't be happening.

I guess if it was a worthy troll we might. But sifting through some of your 'classy' work one feels there will be more chance of NASA's rover finding intelligence on Mars, then there is of finding intelligence in your trolls :thumbsu:

I've only started one troll thread against your mob, and it was trolling Port as well (more towards them though).

Also unlike a certain poster, I don't go around threads on the main board saying that we should remove GC and GWS (typed as G and GW$) and how they shouldn't exist on every GC and GWS related thread.

Anyway back on topic...

But still felt like bagging us out in other threads and referring everyone to your outstanding Bay 13 thread which could not quite make it to page 2?

Anyways. Hope Gold Coast win this week!

Everton is right, we can move on now.

Greene is a huge out for them. But the bigger out for them is no doubt Ward. He contributes so much for their midfield. He may not get Ablett like numbers in his disposals, but he still gets ~30 a game. He's also a defensive machine and racks up the tackles. I think he had 8 last week? If he misses along with Mac, it's going to strip their midfield of some serious power. They still have quality in there with Coniglio and Giles tapping, with Clifton for them to also probably return, but it's tough to ignore those outs.

Very relieved that Patton will miss for them too. We don't have the manpower to hold Cameron, Gilles AND Patton. Containing Cameron and Giles on their own willl hopefully be a bit easier.

Hearing that Mohr will miss along with Frost is also good for us. Mohr and in particular Frost were looking good. Stage is set for Lynch (so long as Davis takes the FF) to kick some goals.

Far more confident with Ward and Greene out, Scully will really have his work cut out to try lead the midfield. Their 2 biggest posession getters against Port last week are out, and that man mountain Patton (by the way reminds of Hawkins, huge fella with school boy type face/head). With Broges not likely to play either, even better for us Suns.

We should get this, I'm confident that our replacements can do the role set compared to the Giants replacements for these massive holes.
