It would be more fun to hear the GWS theme song at the end of this game, and the GC song at the end of their home game against Carlton :D

Why do you post here? Also its a huge relief to finally pick up the first win at home even if it wasn't the teams best performace.

Great to get that win and what a great atmosphere it was, didnt play the greatest put did ok in the contest. I thougbt it was clear hall was playing for a spot on the list. Worked well on his defensive game and one of the best on i thought. Dicko was great , suprisingly bennell and ablett quiet by their lofty standards but the rest of the team mostly stood up.

Enjoyed the fireworks as well it was great!

Thank God for that!
Towards the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th I thought I was going to have to come on here and say I told you so, or resuscitate the "How are we going to kick a winning score?" thread.
One day, sometime, somewhere we will convert our general field play dominance into scoreboard result and I will be a very happy little Sun.
But I'm pretty happy tonight :D

There was something surreal about last night. First win at home (I remember being there for the Bears first win back in 1987), FIREWORKS (The Bears first win it just rained) and, at the end of the game we just walked up to the Nerang Station bus and hopped on (no queuing for 30 minutes) . The driver then took off before the bus was even 80% full? He then stopped at the nearest stop to the trainstation. How good was that? When is this run of good luck going to end? I'm going to buy a lotto ticket right now.

Great to get the first win at Metricon out of the way , hopefully first of many , heard also on Sat night we have sacked our fitness guy , said our players just not up AFL standed.

Interesting CB
While you might expect our young guys to have issues with STIs the one thing you might think they'd be okay with after 2 seasons is aerobic capacity
Just makes you wonder when you see guys like May and Lynch blowing up after short running bursts.

Decent game, definitely not the best footy we've played this year. Aaron Hall to make up some of what we have been lacking in the forward line is a hard runner, tackles well and has great finishing skills. Hall and Matera should make a great small forward pairing in the future. Good game from Dixon but is not a primary ruck for the future, looking at the stats he had 92%DE not bad for a big guy. Allen had a good debut, has plenty of poise and great kicking ability as we already knew. for mine he seems a bit small and needs to put a bit more muscle on he also struggled at stages to turn and run hard back into defence but plenty there for the future. I also thought Weller, Stanley, Swallow, Caddy and Horsley played good games. Shaw was found out in defence pretty badly and I thought it was one of hist worst games of the year. The games from here on out will be pretty interesting with Swallow on ice, Prestia and hunt injured we are going to lack big bodies around the contest. All we can do now is prey that GWS dont beat Melbourne and hopefully we get our second win at home against Carlton.:thumbsu:

My take on the game is a little the opposite of everyone else. I was mortified by how we played in that last quarter, it is horrid.

I was happy to get the win for a wins sake but the performance if you take out the first half of the 3rd quarter was pedestrian.

I would have rather seen us win whilst playing like we did against the dockers or the bombers, we really played well. I guess you could say that we had a lot of cattle out but we still should have played better against the GWS...

On a positive note, I am really liking what Liam Patrick is doing, he is having a real impact on the game. His performances over the last month have really lifted!

I also thought that Charlie Dixon was showed our other ruckman what they need to do around the park, he was very very mobile and had a real dig. This is something that has been missing from our ruck division this year.

I think it is still too early to comment on Hall going forward, that is his first good game, the others have been quite ordinary. He has to do a lot more of that for the remainder of the season in my opinion to stay in the team.

Campbell Brown also is going through a purple patch, just about every involvment he has in the game provides something positive. I do not understand the criticism he cops on these boards!

Tom Lynch whilst being able to get his hands on the ball does not seem to be able to kick straight, I feel no confidence when he has the ball inside the 50.

Lastly, the umpiring was very pedantic on the weekend. How many times can they bring the ball back for no other reason than to assert their authority. It was a very frustrating game from that point of view too.

I am really looking forward to the off-season now in regards to seeing what players get shipped out and which players stay. I do think we need to get rid of a fair few and bring in a couple more players with experience.

If they play their cards right over the off-season I can see us having a really good season next year.

Certainly not the prettiest footy, but we won. We also managed to stop their surge when they had the momentum and kick a couple of goals to halt it, which is something we've failed to do in the past. We also got the winning score despite Ablett and Harley not having big games. Very nice.

Obviously we didn't have the cattle and with nearly a third of the team different, it was always going to be a bit scrappy. What was encouraging was that despite Rischitelli and Prestia missing, we still won the clearances and I50 count quite comfortably. The entries into the 50 remain to be a bit of a problem though, with our young forwards not getting the best delivery.

Brown really looking like he's settling in as a small forward option. Matera also buzzing about which was good to see.

Hall had his best game since the first NAB Cup game since Melbourne. I don't know what the Coaches did to him, but he was a raging bull on the field! He always looked dangerous when he had it, and tackled like a monster.

Lynch has definitely got the yips in front of goal, but I'm happy that he's at least making good position. The kicking for goal will improve as his confidence does.

Dixon outstanding. Didn't get many hit-outs, but his around the ground work was insane. Really firming as one of our best 12 and rock going forward.

Weller had a brilliant game I thought. Took the game on, made good position and hit his targets. Worked really well floating across the back half with Warnock.

It's pretty clear that Hine's better place in the team is around the midfield, where his hardness and desire to dive into the contest is of much more value. I honestly don't think he's a pure lock down defender. Of the games he's played, he's looked infinitely better when playing in the midfield, which is where I hope he continues to play.

Jackson Allen showed that he's got the tools to be a serious player, I think. His kicks were outstanding, and definitely justified the hype. I agree with above in that he looked like he has trouble transitioning back to defence, and was often caught out. But the speed jump from NEAFL to AFL is huge, so that's obviously something he will pick up.

Overall good game. Those 5 goals in as many minutes were something to behold. :D

My two favourite photos of the game!

Our two small forwards, really. But the photo of Hall summized him on Saturday evening. Ruthless and just seemed angry. Was a huge shift from his playing days earlier in the year, when he just seemed happy to be there.

If Matera and Hall can get more game time together and start to gel, we're going to really start kicking some scores.

The positive things is the 2 young fellas have probably turned their mindset around.

Hall pretty much had no defensive game, probably why he was left out of the side a fair bit after breaking through near the start of the year. Was ruthless at the contest and played well.

Matera I think is starting to take the hit, and take the game on! Instead of flinch like he has the past 18 months and try to avoid contact.

We have very skillful players in our side, and thats part of us watching their development in how they are growing. Its about improving mental strength and basically doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done, not being selfish and having that self preservation mindset. These 2 were definitely standouts for me on the weekend in that you could really see them take on board what the coaches have been saying.

Stanley was probably close to BOG for me, I thought his defensive work and a few contested marks were quite good.

I challenge anyone to say that they wouldn't want to make out with him. Especially when he kicked some of those goals on Saturday evening.

That last one he unloaded on the final siren makes me look forward to when our young midfield is peaking and we can just have Gazza taking a spot on a half forward flank :D Worth a few of them a game
