Pretty good selections IMO

I have this gut feeling that i can't shake (and it may just be the eternal optimist in me) that we will win. I'm contemplating tipping us. Think about it:

  • We're playing the team that knocked us out last year after we got butt ****ed by the umps
  • The boys will lift for Tex
  • It's Truck's 200th
  • We haven't lost 2 in a row under Sando
  • Gunstons a knob
  • We're at home (less umpiring shitness)
Can we do it? Am i crazy?

Anyone else think Johnston is a dud?

Not in ability, no.

However because of a lack of desperation and intensity, yes.

If he had the desperation and hunger for the ball that you would expect of an AFL key forward, then IMO he would be one.

Until, and only if, that happens, he'll just be another good SANFL footballer who could have been something, but isn't.

Are you disputing Petrenko's shitty form? He's been treading thin ice all season.
A guy that was best 22 last year was always going to be given time to regain touch after an injury layoff, he was a big reason for our awesome early season form last year. Go and watch our win over Geelong early last year, that's why Pets is so highly rated by Sando. There is nothing wrong with his pressure and tackling so far this year, it's just that his goalkicking has dried up. As soon as he gets that back, he'll be straight back into the side.

I'm also well pleased that Kerridge is still in after his quiet game last week. the younger ones are notoriously up and down in their first and second season, so it was not unexpected that he's struggle after the bulldogs game. He'll have a big job to do this week too.

Lucky to be in IMO after a 3 disposal game last week. That's not acceptable, tagging or not tagging. His one saving grace was that he laid several tackles.

Hopefully he can get a lot more of the ball this week for both his sake and the team's.

When Petrenko is in good form he is easily in the best 22. But seriously when was the last time he was in form? The fact your using the Geelong game as an example just proves my point. He got poorer and poorer as the season went on last year. He was able to beat up on a few of the bottom teams towards the end but his finals campaign was atrocious.

You have to go all the way back to early 2012 to find a good game? His finals series stunk. He played a half in the preseason and then was rushed straight back in. It's taken them 5 weeks to revoke his gold pass. His defensive pressure has been good? Then why has there been an opposition defender clean us up every week? Shouldn't the defensive forward be shutting him down. I dare say the coaches had enough when they saw Walker run amok.

It's definitely not acceptable, but I hate dropping rookies after one poor game. They need to be backed in and given a chance to redeem themselves, so I'm very glad we've done this with Kerridge.

I agree with everything you said here other than the first 5 words. He earnt a chance, now he should be given it. if he has another poor one this week he'd be lucky to get a game the next one though.

Bit like how Neil Craig thought Walker was a dud
Don't try & re-write history .......At no stage did Craig ever say or insinuate that Walker was a dud

In fact every media article & word from the club was saying the opposite

So the AFC now sees the need to play two ruckmen. Pity they didnt realise this last year because we might have had Giles in our team. But our club continues to be dragged kicking and screaming to make a correct decision, at our clubs expense.

 Huh!!! ..what are you talking about ? ....we've always played 2 ruckmen ....an YOU don't know if the club won't play the same 2 ruckmen again on Sat

The club if you haven't caught up with all the news ...has to replace Walker, and needed to bring another tall in......that means we had 2 talls in the forward line last week & we have 2 talls in the forward line this week

This garbage about the club being dragged kicking & screaming to make the right decision is laughable

What other choice did the club have when we've lost 5 quality talls in 3 years .....

Yep, just his goalkicking. Nothing to do with the fact that the man he was assigned to play a defensive forward role on last week had 32 touches from the backline.

In that game against the Cats he was great, I completely agree. You can count the number of acceptable performances since that game on one hand though. Quite often plays one great quarter and 3 shitty ones. Not good enough. Hopefully getting dropped has the desired effect and when he is recalled in a few weeks time he can put in his first 4 quarter effort in a long time. Every team needs a psychotic little cannonball but only if said cannonball is capable of consistency.

Happy with this weeks selections, Smack has a real opportunity now to kick start his AFL career and I'm expecting Porpy to go back to his old forward role which should be a positive for both player and team

Congrats to Lyon on his selection

Can someone please tell me who Rutten will line up on over the weekend? Buddy? Or is that Talia's role?

Has Smack ever played CHB? Could we reinvent Rutten as a FF?

Bit like how Neil Craig thought Walker was a dud

Yeah, this never happened. I believe "the kind of player a coach goes to sleep and dreams about" was his quote on Walker. Talked him up at every possible opportunity. Dropping him a couple of times for a poor form does not mean he didn't rate him.

Anyone else think Johnston is a dud?

He must be, because I can't understand for the life of me how he isn't in this week. All season long we've heard how Johnston is playing good footy but he plays in Walker's role, and we can't drop Walker. Now Walker is out injured and we bring in Shaun ****ing McKernan?! That's a joke in poor taste. McKernan isn't a forward's arseh*le and he's scarcely better in the ruck. And I don't care that he has that bag of five at SANFL level, kicking goals in the SANFL when you're 6'7" and 100kg is like shooting fish in a barrel. I'm not saying Johnston would tear the AFL apart or anything, but at least he plays the same role as Walker. It's pretty clear that we're expecting McKernan to take over Jenkins' role as the second ruck, so I suppose now we're going to turn Jenkins into a permanent full forward?

Either way, I can't fathom how we could possibly choose one of McKernan or Jenkins over Johnston as a pure forward. And at this point it's 100% clear that Johnston will never get a game at the Crows unless all of our big men fall over. There are literally* no other tall forwards left on our list that are available to play but are not playing except for him.

* - I have no idea who Dylan Orval is or what position he plays, so perhaps he's the one tall forward behind Johnston :p

I wouldn't be writing Johnston's obituary just yet. There are 17 games left. He will get his chance.

I like this week's changes, and that Sando is starting to drop a few we thought had gold passes. I'm really looking forward to this week's game.
