Would rather JJ played CHF he has a mighty hoof on him, a great leap and super speed, he just needs to start clunking some marks as the lead up forward. He is going to be a gun in a couple of seasons. Maybe Hendo or Porps from the goal square.

I'm not convinced that LJ's form warranted selection, 13 goals in 4 matches which includes. Haul of 7 against Sturt (6 goals in the other 3 games) doesn't scream pick me

I also agree that Smack has More tools to succeed at AFL where the game probably suits him a little Better, I also tend to agree that LJ may be a little one dimensional which is ok at state league level however a liability at AFL level

I personally don't see Tex and LJ being a similar type of player, Tx is more than a lead / mark player, his ground skills ate superb his work rate is second to none and he can make something out of pure nothing. I don't see the same in LJ

You have to question selectors who dont pick players who are in form.
Surely we dont just sit back and accept all the decisions they make. They have to be held accountable

Pretty much. It's round 6 and we still don't have a side that looks like it could win consistently. We just have to keep shuffling it around until we find something that works. I don't see how selecting out of form players is going to help us move forward when we've got decent young players we need to develop.

Hilarious.

A bunch of Bigfooty posters sure did hold the selectors to account.......

Selectors are held to account by the Club, not us.

Its so blatant that they were favoured, are the umpires told before the game dont make it obvious but make sure Hawks get the rub of the green. Would love for a dubious free to go our way for once and we win a game
No, that's not how the world works. No 'deniability' if someone 'tells' the umpires.
But their wages are paid by the AFL, their games, and hence their income, are decided by the AFL, and they eat lunch in the same cafes as the money men. All umpires, and for us its the Three Blind Mice that acted, know the results the money men need, and act on that to further their careers and pay-packets. As we all do. :(
It happens because the game we love is the only sport that relies on umpire 'interpretation'. Rules are not black and white - the umpires have to choose at every moment of the game. Add to that the way 'momentum' shifts, and very little bias, even 49/51 rather than 50/50 can change a game.

Play Dream Team and Super Coach and you find out pretty often that relying on the bench selection to predict the sub ends up in more poor scores than you care to imagine.
I do and you also find that you shouldn't pick which rookies start on the field/bench due to them being named on the bench. ;)

I'm not sure McKernan deserved a game, but I can understand his inclusion over Johnston. I'm just glad Sando didn't bring in another bloody small to replace Tex as he threatened during the week.

Now that he's in, we really need to give McKernan a run of games to see what he's got. We've invested heavily in him and the coaching staff clearly rate him higher than the rest of us, time for them to put the money where their mouth is and find out once and for all with SMACK rather than this 2 games here and there that leaves massive ?'s either way.

Johnston is difficult, I see a lot of Scott Welsh in him, but also a heap of Luke Jericho. He has the talent, but at his size, he needs to be able to play with intensity and conviction. I worry that he just won't work hard enough and really want it enough. I really hope he succeeds, I think he has a lot to offer, he just needs to get back to kicking 3+ goals a week. Should be kicking bags most weeks with his talent.

Rapt to see Lyons in, really deserves it and hopefully he's more than just sub, then on for 15 mins.

Also I'm glad they stuck with Kerridge, he had a really good game against the Doggies, but had a real battle against Juddy. But he'll learn from that, now time to consolidate what he's learned. Judd is in the top 5 players over the past 10 years and he did manage to kurb his influence after the first qtr and a half.

Who are affected by public pressure.

Take it to radio for public pressure. .....

But if you spoke the outrage on radio it would sound like a tin hat wearing rant of a meltdown and be rightly ignored.

If you read through the posts there are about equal numbers of posters vocally against and vocally for Smac's selection.... a similar split on Petz..... Split public opinion holds no one to account.

Put in a better way..... Venting makes one feel better but in reality achieves nothing.

The selection committee see the lads everyday. I'd say they have a pretty good handle on where people are at. Of all the people calling for LJ to play, how many have bothered to see him play and give sn actual match report of his game here. ......

Just to get this straight - you guys are suggesting if enough supporters lobbied strongly enough for a player to be named, it might drive the "club" to influence the selectors to name that player, in spite of the information, knowledge and observations on which they make their decisions?

The whole Tippet saga has messed some of you up real bad, hasn't it?

Just frustrates me that so many of the people have on the board have been calling for these changes for weeks. How come the guys getting paid triple figures can't see what we can? Having favourites kills coaches. While I was never overly fond of Blighty, at least he didn't take any shit. Obviously Sando has a completely different coaching style but he's now paying the price for being a little too soft. We let a few players coast last year because the team was winning but we've been exposed badly this season.

You throw enough shit at a wall and some of it is going to stick.

I like the ins and outs this week.

Out Laird - In Lyons:
Sad to see Laird out injured - Has looked very comfortable in his first two AFL games - Good to see Lyons rewarded for his form. I wonder now whether he will still demand to be traded since it took till round 6 to get an AFL game. If I were him I would refuse to play and hold out until my contract expired at the end of 2014 .

Out Walker - In McKernan:
I personally had no real preference to either Smack or LJ. I just hope that unless Smack is injured he gets a minimum of 10 games. If he is still spudding it up after 10 games - get him out and give LJ the last 6 games of the season. That way we know what we have on our hands.

In Porps - Out Petrenko:
I have been one of the few Petrenko supporters on this board, but really like this decision. To be honest I don't think his form has been that bad this year and don't think its the reason he is being dropped. For me it all comes down to our forward structure. When we had Tippo/Walker/Callinan all playing we had plenty of avenues to goal and we needed a lock down forward. Now without those guys 3 guys we need a mix that can actually kick goals.

There is nothing wrong with his pressure and tackling so far this year, it's just that his goalkicking has dried up. As soon as he gets that back, he'll be straight back into the side.

As you know - I am a huge Pets fan. Just think you are off the mark on the above.

2012:
His first 10 games he kicked 12 goals (average of 1.2 goals a game). In the first 10 games he had 12 goal assists at an average of 1.2 a game.

2013:
His first 5 games of 2013 he has gone at an average of 1 goal a game and just under one goal assist per game.

To me thats not a significant decrease. As I mentioned previously - to me it comes down to our forward line structure. Missing Tex/Tippo/Callinan from last year we just don't have enough goalkicking firepower. Thats why Pets was forced out.

Smack and Jaensch are going to tear up the forward 50 I can't wait! :D

I expect at least 8 between them its going to be exciting stuff. A good chance to catch the hawks napping and get our season on track.

You have to go all the way back to early 2012 to find a good game? His finals series stunk. He played a half in the preseason and then was rushed straight back in. It's taken them 5 weeks to revoke his gold pass. His defensive pressure has been good? Then why has there been an opposition defender clean us up every week? Shouldn't the defensive forward be shutting him down. I dare say the coaches had enough when they saw Walker run amok.

Surely its time to put away the term 'gold pass' on this forum.

In 2013 we have seen Johncock / Callinan / Porps / Vince / Petrenko given spells in the 2's and we have only played 5 games.

I would love to have the stability and success of last year so that people could (incorrectly) bitch and whine about players being given 'gold passes'.
