I'm with Pete. .. These threads are embarrassing. Not one committed call to drop vince after many saying he'll play one good game (to cover yourself) then stink it up again.
I must say I'm still pretty livid he was picked. I can understand why, I just don't like it.

For all his possessions last night, I still didn't think he used the ball well enough, nor provided anywhere near enough defensive intensity despite 5 recorded tackles. Funnily enough a week at WWT hasn't made him a changed man in that regard.

It would be futile to hope he's dropped this week, and for the sake of avoiding revolving door selection policy such as in the case of Johncock and midfield stability he'll play the next few rounds while we bring in Van Berlo and hopefully Lyons.

Surely we'll play McKernan and Johnston together from now on if Walker has long term damage. May only have been Sturt but Smack's five goals makes him pickable, finally.

To be fair Douglas has been good, but that's not saying much about the rest.
Yeah he has and watching the replay now I sold him short. Third quarter in particular was good, set up a few goals.

SANFL form wise Stiffy is the best forward option to come in. Love how he is the dominant forward and Butcher is being used as a decoy for him.

I'd like to see him in for pets to make our forward line more dangerous. As far as who comes in for Tex I dont want Smack in (Pea heart, no intensity ect) but if he can take some pressure of sauce in the ruck it may be worth it. I would be keen to see LJ get a go though. Best like for like we have.

So we only need to win 12 out of 17 games then, without our key forward, no need to stress

Two of those are against GC and GWS. Two more are against Melbourne and the Bulldogs. None of these games are certain wins, but there's four remaining games even in our current predicament that we'd start unbackable favourites for, and all of a sudden it looks a bit easier doesnt it?

Fourteen wins in 2012 and 2013 isn't what it used to be.

I don't disagree with most of your sentiments about selection but it is really important to remember that it is APRIL. Your luck can change very quickly in this game.

What we need right now is some really good leaders around the club.

Would we depending on weather, look at bringin both LJ, and smack and try and strech the hawk's defence which is probably thier main weakness atm.
Mind you we'd need to get it out of the middle first, which isn't working to well.

This might be a bit different, but I'd like to see a shuffle. Maybe putting Johncock down back, Jenkins and one of Johnston, Lynch, or Otten presenting up forward with some of the younger, small guys crumbing at his feet. Maybe a Lyons or Jaensch? Something to catch the Hawks off guard. Right now with Walker's season in the balance, being unpredictable in the forward line is going to be one of our best assets against the tougher teams.

Probably just my opinion, but within a year, we've lost both Tippett and Walker (albeit for an unknown amount of time in walkers case). Now is as gooder time as any to try a few different moves and work on developing the flexibility in some players. Eventually the time will come where we may need to switch things around, whether it be to cover injury for as a backup plans when sh** hits the fan.

Though, on the flip side, this could cause some instability with the current plans in place. I don't know. I certainly don't envy the selection panel this week.

That's the thing, everyone on here will see his game differently depending on your view of his selection. He was one of our very few players last night that I felt confident having the ball with, his disposal was very good as it usually is. I had our top 5 as Otten, Sloane, Dougie, Vince and Thommo, do you see that differently?

What about a player from left Field play the BLING in a Permanent F/Pocket
As I have said in another thread we require a player who has pace to run around in the F/Line
I am sure if the AFC gave him at least 5 games in that spot he would repay them back

Underrated post.

Well, it's only twenty minutes old, but I predict it will become underrated.....

Maybe dial the dimwit down to three for your next post.

Corey Enright isn't in Geelong's leadership group.
So I prove your entire post is 100% crap and all you can do is respond with personal abuse? That's all you've got. That's low, even for you Carl.

Forget the forward line and forget the back line it doesn't matter who is there (yes when were up an running it may matter). All that matters is our midfield, we have reverted back to 2011 struggling to buy a clerance and getting smashed in the contested possessions.

We need a committed midfield and we need it now. This is what the selection panel and the coach need to fix.

Kerridge was very good last week against Footscray. Judd gave him a masterclass - but how many of our "taggers" have ever got the better of him? Rob Shirley is probably the only one. Kerridge was never going to win that contest in only his 3rd game, so why attack him for doing the best that he could under trying circumstances? It's called a learning process. Kerridge will learn from that and will be better for the experience in the long run. In the mean time, he should (and hopefully will) continue to gain selection until VB is fit to return.

Next week he'll probably be asked to run with Mitchell, who is nowhere near as quick as Judd. We can keep Kerridge, without having to sabotage the team by selecting Tambling or Martin.

Great post Vader. It was a great lesson for Kerridge and I think he showed great character battling on like he did after Judd got the better of him in the first quarter and a half. After that Judd's influence was minimal. Anyone who has any idea of how to develop a player would know this is the worst time to drop Kerridge. He got a bit of a lesson, now lets give him a shot to consolidate that lesson. Dropping him now would destroy his confidence and motivation.

Issue with Stiffy gunning it up in SANFL as a forward, is that its because he can bully opposition defenses, similar to the days of Adam Richardson or Daniel Havelberg. Fitness is less of an issue and he's bigger, stronger and classier than his opponents. At AFL level he just won't be capable of getting away with some of the stuff he can pull at SANFL level and then his opponent will just burn him the other way.

Actually, no you didn't.

You had a massive dig at my post, somehow drawing the moronic conclusion that "leaders" has to equal "officially elected members of the leadership group and no other players"

Now, I don't think that even you are stupid enough to believe that leadership is confined to a select few, or that senior players are unable to show leadership qualities.

Isn't it you who is always crapping on about the value of experience, hmmm?

So I think what you did was feign dumb just in order to argue against me. I don't want to get personal, but you started it and have frankly set the standards on here fairly low. No one on the board gets more personal than you, so drop the act :)

Your post was either stupid, or you feigned stupidity because you're an arseh*le. One of the two.

Add to that 3 of Johncocks goals were cheating out the back. In no way is he better than what we currently have, as evidenct by Jaensch's surprising, albeit pleasing, game yesterday.

Further thinking about next week its all about denying the supply. Our forwardline, whoever we bring in, will be good enough to kick a reasonable score against Hawthorn but its our lack or accountability in the midfield and ruck that will see our defenders having far too much to do. Lyons will not do anything to help that issue, and as much as id like to see him in he just doesnt have a spot available yet IMO.

Making Lake and Gibson accountable is a must. Whether this means using Mckernan as a decoy to drag one of them out, or going super small and bringing Lyons in to play half forward and create a mismatch I dont know. Id go with the first option if we use either Smack or LJ as often as possible to hurt them the other way. Then we get to the scary proposition of their forward half......

Out- Walker
In- Mckernan

I reckon we can certainly beat the Hawks if guys like Sauce and co find some form, but that just doesn't look likely atm.

Is anyone gonna tip us on here?

Vince should be back in the centre this week. Boom or bust. Has the talent, maybe Sando can salvage him from fringe player to gun once more. Give him the responsibility against Hawthorn.

Danger and Thompson to rotate to forward pocket.

Please drop Petrenko. Wright, tambling or Riley could do better.

Tambling played some of his junior footy as a small forward and surely he would be a better bet than Petrenko but perhaps his ship has sailed. Riley im not convinced about either but he would add toughness around the contest. If we suddenly find last years form we are a chance but its looking unlikely.

Tough week at the selection table for Sando, we have a dysfunctional midfield and a forward line that has just lost its core, its shell and pretty much everything in between. Defense for mine really seems the least of our worries, they're fighting bravely, Rutten and Talia are keeping the talls quiet week in, week out, only issue is trying to create some drive to cover our midfield that is failing miserably.

We have an issue with Jacobs, completely refuses to jump at centre bounces and if he does its way too early. Prefers to stand under the ball and tap and is getting jumped all over as a result. Is okay at ball-ups around the ground, but so much of our scoring potential is based upon winning Centre-clearances and as such we need him dominating in there. Also, as a lumbering dinosaur, needs to start using his size to crash packs and actually take a few contested grabs. He's tall enough and his hands are big enough it should be easy, just doesn't seem to want to want to commit to the contest. Do we bring in Graham instead? Its sad that that question is even being asked, but sadly it doesn't seem to silly. Probably too early and Jacobs probably deserves more of a chance before that happens. And its Graham... So Jacobs stays.

With regards to our forward line. I really liked what Otten offered up there, seems well suited towards the modern day forward structure/plan of pushing high up the ground then pushing back hard, has good lateral movement and is an awesome grab of the footy when his confidence is up. I would consider using him as our CHF.

At the same time we also need to bring in either McKernan or Johnston to shore up the forward line. Lynch is NOT a marking target, he's another flanker/midfielder who's going to pick up mid-teens possessions and maybe kick a goal every week or two. To defeat Hawthorn we have to expose them for their lack of key defenders. Having a dominant Kurt and Tex kept us in the prelim, otherwise we would have been hammered. As for which comes in, 2 weeks ago I'd have said Johnston no doubt, but since his 7 goal haul he's been a little quiet so I'd consider bringing McKernan in whilst his confidence is up post 5 goal haul. Also helps out Jacobs. Happy with either though, just hope its not neither.

Jaensch up forward is also a must IMO, is the kind greedy, cheeky player who is suited to the small forward role and is ultra dangerous around goals. Whilst he's been okay in defense, has really failed to provide that run, carry and deliver that we were after and his defensive action is average at best. We need to be looking for more than what he can offer as a defender.

Only question is who replaces Otten in defense. Hawthorn are currently running with an extremely tall forward line with Franklin, Roughead, Hale, Gunston as well as first ruck Bailey. I'd be tempted to bring in L. Thompson as he has that extra height and use Lynch, Henderson and Smith as extra tall cover.

Oh and Lyons is a must, just keeps performing at SANFL level, I'm not sure we can keep refusing. It would be tempting to bring back Porps, but I think that just plays into Hawthorns hands, he'd be too easy for someone like Gibson to completely nullify.

At this stage I'm assuming Tex and Brown are outs.
Out: Brown (Conc.), Walker (Knee), Mackay (omit)
In: L. Thompson, McKernan, Lyons

B: Reilly - Rutten - Laird
HB: Smith - Talia - L.Thompson
C: Lynch - Thompson - Henderson
HF: Douglas - Otten - Wright
F: Jaensch - Jenkins - McKernan
1R: Jacobs - Dangerfield - Sloane
I: Lyons - Kerridge - Vince
S: Petrenko
E: Mackay, Martin, Johnston

Mackay has been in average form form for a while, especially his kicking. He's still finding similar amounts of the ball, but across his career he's one you could count on to have a DE% of >80%. He's achieved that only once this year against Brisbane with 2 in the low 60%'s, one in the 50%'s and now one in the 40%'s. The beauty of Mackay has always been his elite disposal efficiency, without that he's a very limited player.

Wright I think needs a change in role, should form part of a new look small forward brigade with Matty Jaensch. Both are quite tidy with their disposal, Wright is exceptional defensively and can kick a goal, whilst Jaensch is dangerous with ball in hand anywhere within 60m.

Petrenko skating on thin ice as Sub, to inject some pace into our midfield late in the game.

Agreed re Vince. His best football has ALWAYS been in the midfield, his drop in form post 09 coincided with Craigy trying to reinvent him as a half back, God knows why... He's a midfielder rotating through half-forward.

You do realise we had 11 players with < 50 games playing tonight, including 5 with less than 20 games? It's not as if the youngsters aren't being given opportunities. What you're suggesting is akin to turning Adelaide into Melbourne. No thanks.

So we play out of form players who are giving us next to nothing purely because they're older than guys who are in form in the sanfl. Great selection policy, we're on a winner here

I absolutely won't tip us, but I'm not writing in a loss just yet. Walker is a huge out but he's still only one bloke. This team has a tonne of improvement in it at almost every single position on the ground, so now Sando has to work out how to get it happening.
