Lets get Clarke in and playing top level..a gallop at the G will be just the shot. We cant afford to let the Hawk halfbacks shred us to bits as in past games and lets face it, Pav spends an inordinate amount of time falling to the ground after his initial contest. De Boer will have to play a huge game and will probably need some help so Suban will stay in.

Id like to see Neale get more time but he wouldn't have played a full game of footy in a while perhaps?

i'm sorry, it is not obvious but are you implying that having clarke in the team will prevent the hawks halfbacks from shredding us to bit?

I agree. They are not admin or moderators assholes in my mind. Hope their team goes in with the same lack of respect (doubt it) Have a lot more respect for the Hawthorn team than some of their loser posters on this site.
I had a read of their thread and got the impression they are certainly giving us respect as an opponent. They are taking the piss with Lyon but so what. We do the same here with other teams.

that is the million dollar question, is he? lyon doesn't think so ... another game in the wafl and i would hope that he is ready for essendon

From Lyon's comments I get the impression that he is more happy with Hannath's game than he is worried about Clarke's fitness. Clarke arguably came back last year more underdone than he is now and played very well as first ruck.

Lyon: there's no way in the world that I could have not played Jack Hannath because there would have been an uproar in our club, within our player group.

That says to me that Hannath did his job.

If prefer to see Clarke in TBH. While Hannath may have 'done his job' his ceiling and ability to take the game on and create opportunities further upfield is, well, pretty much zero.
You know what you're getting with him, and on the open spaces of the G I'd rather see Clarke stretch their defense and give sandi chop out. Weather may play more of a factor in final selections with hannaths bigger body favoured but correct me if I'm wrong - wasn't zacs second coming against Sydney last year in the wet ? Hrrrmmmm

I'd like to see us persist with De Boer spending more time in the middle, and Suban becoming the defensive half forward. De Boer does his best work at the bottom of a pack (especially in the wet), and Suban is a much better kick for goal than De Boer. We need a forward who can make Grant Birchall accountable. I also think Sheridan may retain his spot - Ross loves having 3 speedsters who can roam from HB up either wing to HF. It means that if one is tagged (Hill) he can move onto the ball without sacrificing outside pace on either wing.

Hawks love to chip around in the back line looking for a weakness, before a quick attack. We can't stonewall them at the G, it is too broad, they will probe and probe for a weakness until they penetrate. We need to adjust our defense a little for the G given that it is so wide. We typically corral the ball to a wing to make it easier to cut off their options. The wings are so wide at the G that this is a bit less effective (allowing teams to switch the ball via the backs and break our sagging zone). We need to make sure we cut off their switch options in the backline (probably Suckling and Birchall). Both of these guys need a hard tag (I'd like to see Suban , Mzungu and Deboer rotate through these 2 and into the middle).

Here ends my preliminary analysis... It's probably all bollocks, but it beats work on a Monday.

Hananth gives something the coaches to think about especially with Hawks' defensive issues at the moment. Do we opt for him up forward hoping he clunks a few marks whilst rotating Sandi through? Hale and McEvoy are solid rucks and go forward too nicely. Opting to go Clarke in at this stage, need his versatile and stronger marker around the ground as well as allowing Sandi to go forward.

Don't forget Crozier, way way too good for WAFL and always puts in a decent showing at AFL level despite his skinny frame.

He's still a bit of a dolphin at AFL level. Pops up, does something great, then seems to disappear for a while in between. It's something he's been working on since TAC.

Would be great to see him in the mix for the sub spot that Shero and Neale have been filling over the first two games. Has the class, pace and skills that could be really damaging in the last quarter and a bit.

I agree, De Boer through the middle in brutal burst like a wrecking ball would certainly soften up a few opposition midfielders.

Clarke showed more in his half-arsed hit out with Peel than Jack Hannath showed in his last two games.

Clakkas is not 100% in form I know, but still will be a better proposition than Jack Hannath on the big stage at the G on a Friday night.

Subes and Sheridan can swap sub roles for a spot on the bench.

Clarke for Hannath or Clancee for Sheridan might improve us but I'll be happy enough going in to the game with no changes.

Can't support the Clancee for Sheridan call. Sheridan tore it up in the pre-season and Clancee (for whatever reason) is swinging like a rusty gate and connecting with nothing. Clancee needs to come good first at WAFL (Ibbo would be ahead of him at the moment) and just quietly, I think RTB thinks he is onto a very good footballer in young Sheridan - really had an impact when he came on last week.

Would like to hear how Sylvia has trained, but otherwise Clarke, Neale and Silvagni.

Sylvia had a full session last Thursday and trained well but only played 25 minutes of the Peel game. Wednesday will be a very interesting session.Would not be surprised if Ross closes the session.

You know what. I just have this weird feeling that the unthinkable may happen. We need a mid that breaks tackles, we need a mid that can float forward, we need someone who has played more than 25mins of WAFL.

Think about it. Much better option than Sylvia.
