Yes, not all games. Most games he's played running defender, he's not going to be able to take a tall forward.

Most game reports by the coaches in the WAFL mention his running off half back too.
Yes he's an awesome running defender, and showed he has a pretty good penetrating kick when he want to as well. But he's pretty accountable as well - and because of his athleticism I'd actually say he matches up on a medium-tall pretty well. He's only giving up 1 or 2cm to a Gunston or O'Brien. I think he'd do ok on O'Brien. O'Brien's not exactly a dynamo in their forward line, he's a great ball user once he has it but he struggles to get hold of it in the first place. I think someone accountable like Hughes should do ok on him.

I hope you're right.

I think O'Brien will stay closer to goal but.

Even better if he does imo. Hughes is good when the ball is in the air. The only concern I have is if our pressure down field is rubbish. If the ball is coming in on a platter then our defenders have zero chance of stopping them no matter who they are. If we can apply good pressure then we have some great interceptors in our D50 (Spurr, Ibbo, Hughes) and can rebound quickly. It's probably going to take more than one game for this kind of setup to work but it's one that a lot of other teams are using with good success this season so I'm glad we are giving it a bash at least.

I really like it , but expect C.Pearce, suban to make some stupid mistake in crucial moment also. The young kid we can take it if they make error, but sheriden and sutty should be better due to them playing more Afl matches.

Barlow, Dawson and Pav being rested because we're next to no chance against the Hawks in Tassie even with them, but, are a reasonable chance of knocking off the Tigers at home next week.

Get some games into the kids, try some things, gear up to break the drought next week.

It's one thing to drop Barlow if we were at full strength with Fyfe and Bennell, and wanted to keep playing young guys like Langdon, Blakeley, etc. But to have Clancee and Suban playing ahead of him is plainly ridiculous.

I don't care how much our coaches are supposed to know, they have continually gotten things wrong with where they play Barlow. Lyon even admitted it in the preseason, yet has still done what he himself said was wrong, apart from 2 games where lo and behold Barlow was one of our best. Hard to fathom. When Barlow plays on the ball he is a good player. He might not be an elite user, but neither is someone like Priddis.

Leaning towards the side of cynicism, I'm not sure why Clarke gets rewarded (yet again) for a fat load of nothing other than being an operational need.

Barlow being dropped instead of Suban seems more unbelievable than a Seinfeld reunion.

In any event it's good to see Langdon back and no youngsters dropped.

I think our ruckman will float behind the ball in general play. **** knows neither Clarke or Griffin are effective as forwards but I've seen both taking floating marks in defense.

A.Pearce --> Gunston
Ibbo --> Ceglar / McEvoy
Spurr --> Puopolo
Hughes --> O'Brien
Sutcliffe --> Sicily
C.Pearce --> Bruest

Rebound rebound rebound. We'll have no problem switching play with Dawson missing.

Looking at the changes we clearly are not trying 100% to win this game. We are less than a third of the way into the season and listening to the talk of a development year, we have effectively given up. Sure we are without Fyfe and MJ long term but you know Richmond have won one game and haven't given up on finals. I think it's a disgrace.

Erratic is perhaps a bit strong but from the outside at least, selection seems to be sending mixed messages. e.g. We're not going to play too many young as that'd be throwing them to the wolves yet we ship A.Pearce off to Tassie to take on the Hawks as our sole tall KP aft while Taberner walks the plank along the bow. Then there's lots of talk about rewarding form so Clarke comes back in after an undisciplined game at Peel? It's a weird ol'season this one and I'm channeling Matt Price for another chapter.

Yeah there's much to play out and most of us aren't privy to what is asked of individuals. Perhaps it's a training thing. Perhaps he leads tackles because he's not winning his share of clearances. Maybe he was given a month.

Or perhaps he hasn't been dropped for form at all, and we really are tanking.

Richmond cant afford to concede that they're not going to make it with supporters like theirs. The cleanup bill just to remove the dung would be too large.

Richmond are copping it for being stubborn in front of the media, I'm happy with the realistic route Freo are taking even if the Barlow decision seems strange at the moment. At least I get to watch a defence that isn't having to carry Dawson this weekend.
It's also seen that Richmond haven't done anything and should be improving each year. They can't afford to tank it like we can. Their coach doesn't have a fresh 5yr deal.

I guess all the Match Committee know nothing about football for dropping Zac Dawson....
See the changes vs GWS for some quality Dawson loving!

Sometimes I wonder if you are actually solely a peel supporter ;)
Me too , I rather see hannath playing main ruck for peel than Clarke. If he need rest you got apeness, Tanner and uber to help. I think this week peel team is the most balance interm of experience. Deboer,Barlow in the middle what not to like. Collins/ m.Shaw match up .

It's our annual Tassie tank game in a tanking season so I wouldn't be reading into it that much...However, if we win then i'll take back my defense of Dawson. Still could be a late in as travelling emergency?

On paper our team doesn't strike fear into the opposition. here hoping for a spirited game!
